Any idea what's going on? I can't even enable instant search or click any

- Outlook General >> Customize Current View Fields Self-ChangeI have an InBox folder and a SentOut folder in my Outlook 2003 PST file. The
InBox is set to show the normal From, Subject, Rec'd Date, etc fields. The
SentOut folder shows the To, Subject, Date Sent, etc usual fields. When I go
into either folder weeks later, the displayed fields have changed on their
own. The InBox might still be okay, but the SentOut folder msgs now show
From, Subject, Date Rec'd, etc fields. Sometimes the InBox is backwards.
Sometimes both folders are wrong. I always correct them using the proper
Customize Current View procedure, and when I check them a day later they're
okay. Week or so later, they're back to displaying the wrong fields. What
can be causing this erratic self changing of the fields to be displayed?

- IE6&Outlook >> Reinstall of MS Outlook ExpressI have Windows 2000 Pro installed on my computer. Up until just over a week
ago, I was able to send multiple addressed email (BCC) to my friends. We
would exchange jokes and graphics. All of a sudden I was no longer able to
email neither to myself nor to my friends. I contacted my ISP as well as the
manufacturer of the anti-virus program (Symantec's Norton Internet Security
(NIS)). My ISP went over many steps with me, but we were still not having
any luck. When I contacted Symantec, they also had me go over many steps.
After Symantec and I tried everything possible, we both concluded that I
should remove the NIS software. I did. Unfortunately the anti-virus program
was not the cause of my problem. I reinstalled the NIS. As of today, after
calling my ISP up a number of times this past week, we were finally able to
send an email out to myself. We were eventually able to send an email to my
friends -- ONE AT A TIME! I am still not able to send emails to multiple
addressees. My last alternative is to uninstall MSOE, but have not been able
to find any information for Win2000; however, I did find it for WinXP. Does
anyone know if the procedure for uninstalling MSOE for XP also applies to
Win2000 Pro? And, if possible, avoid this step, and attempt to fix the
multiple address issue itself. Oh, I installed MS Outlook just to see if I
still had the multiple addressee problem. I didn't, but I'd rather use MSOE.
(I have mutliple IDs that I can easily use in MSOE virsus MS Outlook. Thank
you. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks again.

- Outlook >> Outlook Rules ProblemI am running XP Pro with Office 2003 Pro.
I have an Outlook rule which essentially says that if certain words are in
the subject and the sender is not in my address book, mark it as read and
move it to the deleted folder. The rule does not always work and I find it
in the junk folder as unread. If I manually run the rule then it moves the
appropriate emails to deleted folder and marks it as read. I have Outlook
junk setting at high.
I am guessing that Outlook junk setting it getting applied before my rule is
getting applied.
Does anyone know how to make sure my rules are applied? Or do I have a
different issue that I have not even thought of?

- IE6&Outlook >> cannot send e-mail using OEHI,
I have Windows XP Professional. Had no trouble for some
time, but recently, probably after I upgraded Office 2000
to Office XP, whenever I try to compose a new message or
reply, I get something like this:
Address book failed to load, Outlook Express is
incorrectly configured please re-install.
This message comes up only the first time I open Outlook
Express after starting the computer. Every time after
that the message reads:
There was an error opening ths message. An error has
occured.
I found the answer to this problem on support website,
but it only tells about Win 95 and 98, and there are no
keys mentioned there in the registry of Win XP. Does
anybody know a solution?
Thanks for your advice

- Outlook >> A rule that forwards through a specified account?I have a number of clients, and use different email accounts for each.
I want to set up an email rule that:
- selects emails coming in to a specified address, and
- forwards that email on to a distribution group,
- and forwards on through a specific account.
The first two can be achieved by the action options which are available, but
I cant see an option to select the account that is used.
Is there anyway that this can be done - an alternative would be to use the
default account and change the dispalay name.

- IE6&Outlook >> Remote Assistance and Outlook ExpressI am not sure where to ask the following. If you can direct me to a better
group I'll take the question there. I have a great deal of data that I am
going to cut and paste in so bear with me...hope that you can heal me out!
I hit a snag in the MCSA/MCSE text "Windows Server 2003 Environment " page
2-21
I am running client and server in VMware for training purposes. The systems
communicate and I have been able to install the SBS 2003 server packages to
the lone XP Pro client system.
The local domain is:
idsrdl.local
The SBS 2003 Server name is:
gentia-manna
On the server I do not have POP3 or IMAP services configured or running.
The SBS 2003 server is a base install with few modifications having been made.
On an XP Pro system acting as a client in the domain, within Connection
Manager I have two "connections" available. First, a connection to the SBS
server and a second connection to the LAN. The connection to the SBS server
is not enabled. After attempting to instantiate the connection the following
information is dispalyed:
MESSAGE:
"Unable to establish the VPN connection. The VPN server may be
unreachable, or the security paramaters may be configured properly for this
connection. [Error 800]..."
POSSIBLE REMIDIES:
Need a certificate from the SBS DC.
How do I check the certificate on the client system to see if it is valid
within the domain and/or issue a new certificate from the SBS server?
Given the following information can you tell me where to locate information
regarding system or application attributes for a client using Outlook Express
in an SBS 2003 domain? I need to know this so as to be able to send or
receive request/responses for remote assistance on the XP Pro client. Are
the attributes applied to the SBS Server or the XP Pro client system?
The systems within the SBS 2003 domain are not connected to the Internet.
Given what I know of Windows Messenger I need a .Net Passport username and
password in order to make use of the Messenger service. I am making the
assumption that I need Internet access in order to do obtain a .Net Passport
username/password, hence I have applied firewall restrictions on the XP Pro
system to block Messenger. I do not intend to run the systems connected to
the Internet at this time. They are being used for training at home. Is the
assumption that I need Internet access in order to obtain a Messenger
username/password correct and that the SBS server cannot issue .NET support
directly to LAN based clients?
As stated there are no POP or IMAP srevices/connectors configured on the SBS
2003 server at this time. Do I need to configure POP and IMAP services on
the SBS 2003 server in order to make use of Outlook Express and non-Microsoft
browsers that send and retrieve mail through the SBS 2003 Exchange server?
E-mail clients within the domain idsrdl.local can send and receive e-mail
too: username@idsrdl.local if Windows Explorer is employed and a connection
to the SBS Exchange interface at the following URL is used:
http://gentia-mana/exchange/
On an XP Pro system none of the following attributes work for Outlook Express:
using fully qualified e-mail user name:
object@idsrdl.local
for HTTP server:
http://gentia-mana/exchange/
ERROR: Unable to poll for messages on your http server. Resource not
found. 0x800CCC34
for POP or IMAP servers:
idsrdl.local
gentia-manna.idsrdl.local
ERROR: The host 'gentia-mana' could not be found. Please verify that you
have entered the server name correctly. Account 'Microsoft Mail Server',
Server 'gentia-mana.idsrdl.local', Protocol...

0x800CCC0D (OR)
...SMTP port 25, NO socket error 11004. Error number: 0x800CCC0D
When I send a request for assistance from a user to an administrator, the
e-mail is never sent using Outlook Express.
Thanks,
Tommy

How could we? You've provided no information. It would make sense to include
upgrade path, mail account type, connection type and automatic polling
settings so someone could troubleshoot your problem.

Outlook General >> Why won't Outlook send/receive on startup?
Upgrade was from Outlook Express. Type is POP/
SMTP. The OS is XP Home. ISP is Comcast (broadband).
I have read many posts on this forum in an attempt to resolve this. I
have noticed that you helped many others, Russ, and I appreciate your
reply to my question.
I followed the instructions provided in MS Q312336. I saw Q 320836 as
well. I also checked to make sure "working offline" wasn't selected.
Under Send/Receive Settings, I currently have NO
boxes checked although most have been tried at some point. Some were
unchecked as per instructions of Q312336. I do not want any online or
offline scheduled checks: they may interfere with audio recording
applications I use.

Then you can't do it. You must set an automatic send receive interval in
order to have an automatic poll on startup. Why not just set a long one,
like 24 hours (1440 minutes)?

Under S/R settings, I have checked ALL the boxes:
All Accounts:
*Include this group in S/R
*Schedule auto S/R
*Perform S/R on exit
Offline:
*Include group in S/R
*Schedule auto S/R
I had tried most all permutations of checking these boxes before. No
change resulted.

I kept the default five minutes for purposes of this test. AND, since
I just opened Outlook this morning to check email, and since I had to
click "S/R" to download msgs, it's clear that the scheduling function
isn't working, at least when Outlook isn't active.

Outlook General >> Why won't Outlook send/receive on startup?
I expected it to work when the program is not running because of the
following menu tree in Outlook:
TOOLS
SEND/RECEIVE GROUPS
-Setting for group "All Accounts"
-When Outlook is offline
-schedule an automatic S/R every _____ minutes
To me, that's a logical assumption, but I'm not a software engineer.
Which leads me to the question of your fit in this mix.
What are your credentials?
Who pays you, if anyone, for your participation in this newsgroup?
How did you come to be so condescending in your attitude?

You misunderstood. I wasn't being condescending. I was confused by your
question and thought perhaps I was missing something or that I was
misunderstanding you. I've never seen anyone interpret "Offline" to mean the
same thing as "exit." When you exit Outlook, it no longer runs, so it can't
do any automatic polling. "Offline" means no longer connected to the mail
server, but the program is still running. Now I understand why you made the
assumption you did. Sorry for being so thick.

Outlook General >> Why won't Outlook send/receive on startup?
WAY THANKS UNCLE BOB!!!! I have been struggling with this question ever since we upgraded from Outlook Express to this version of Outlook. I use Outlook from Office 2000 SR-1 and we (still) have the ability to send/receive mail upon startup. We also had that option with Outlook Express. It is simply with this version of Outlook (2002 V10) that the send/receive feature at startup is not available
Russ, All of Uncle Bob's questions are valid. Your solution to set a default send/receive of 24 hours is unacceptable. Please forward this request to someone that is more knowledgable than you. You have only insulted Uncle Bob and all the other people who have sincerely read and tried to configure Outlook 2002 to run a send/receive at startup. Stop asking all the condescending questions and find someone who actually understands the problem.

Outlook General >> Why won't Outlook send/receive on startup?
There is no missing feature here, nor any request to send. Send/Receive at
startup works perfectly well in Outlook 2002 when you are configured
correctly with an automatic polling interval. The option to poll at startup
was actually linked to the automatic polling option in Outlook 2002 _in
response_ to users' requests! Few users want to poll automatically at
startup then never again. For those that do, setting a long polling interval
works perfectly well.
Asking questions is not condescending. The questions are simply necessary
since people posting about problems with polling at startup often post none
of the information necessary for troubleshooting. Like you, for instance.
Your conclusion is not correct. Polling on startup is most certainly
available in Outlook 2002. You have provided no information about your
configuration that would permit troubleshooting as to why you can't get it
to work. I will most happily leave this thread now and let someone more
knowledgeable take over. I hope you provide them with the information they
need and are kinder to them.

Outlook General >> Why won't Outlook send/receive on startup?
Russ, Your response proves that you are not listening to the customer. The original question was very simple: why doesn't Outlook send/receive at startup? Your response was that there was not enough information. In fact, there was a complete description of what the user wanted. They did not say there was a problem ... or that what they tried did not work. Intervallic polling at startup is a different concept from 'send/receive at startup'. An experienced application support person would recognize that both Uncle Bob and I are very well-versed in following directions and providing complete instructions in our questions.
And you are correct ... there is nothing condescending about asking questions. Neither I nor Uncle Bob objected to your asking questions. We both object to the tone of your questions. When you tell someone, "What did you expect?...", you are insulting them. The fact that this must be explained to you shows your weakness in customer support. What you should have said was, "The feature available in earlier versions of Outlook is still available here, but must be configured with intervallic polling," then you could ask if the customer needed help with setting that up. I would understand that and I bet Uncle Bob would too!
I have set up the interval for polling and it works OK, however, let me go on record that I am a customer who prefers send/receive at startup and never again. Also, the option to send/receive at exit is not a desired option. If you see something flash upon exiting (such as the send/receive diagnostic message), you are tempted to go back in and check to see if something new came in. If I want to send/receive at any time, I just click the Send/Receive button. Simple
I recommend a course in customer relations with special emphasis on composition ... wordsmithing, evergreen, whatever you want to call it. You need to read behind the lines before sending potentially insulting letters to customers.

Outlook General >> Why won't Outlook send/receive on startup?
Points taken. As a counter point, however, walk a ways in my shoes. MVP's
are not customer support professionals. We are unpaid volunteer end-users
who do this in what little free time we have, trying to help as many users
as possible in a very short time. The number of unanswered posts in these
groups is overwhelming. Many of us do not even work within the IT industry.
This particular question is posted several times a day. Most users who are
having this problem are way beyond the basic steps of simply needing to
configure an automatic polling interval. Instead, they have misconfigured
their mail connection type, have a corrupt SRS group or corrupt profile. Or
they have inadvertently set their profile to work offline. So when this
question is posted with absolutely none of this configuration information
available, it starts off a long troubleshooting process and it will take
much longer to answer.
There is never any clue as to the level of a user's expertise when they
post. Most people who use Usenet are pretty far advanced, so we shoot for a
middle level of familiarity with the product and OS, which of course makes
assumptions. So when in the end it turned out that the reason the user was
having trouble with automatic polling was that Outlook was not even running,
I was surprised and honestly thought I was missing something else. It was a
first and caught me quite off guard.
You look like you have the skills to be good at this. Come on in the water.
Answer just 10 posts a day. You'll enjoy it. You'll also see how challenging
it can be to be able to "read between the lines" when you know absolutely
nothing about the poster and when they post almost no details about the
problem they are having.

Whatever gave you the idea that Russ was _in_ customer support? He's just
another average joe like you and me, except he has some extra knowledge

- Outlook General >> Switching between views in OutllookOutlook provides a feature where i can customize the way the inbox looks.
However if i have couple of ways of looking at my inbox. It does not provide
me a easy way of defining multiple views and letting me switch between them.
Folder concept not useful always(counter productive to search and extra
task of defining a rule or moving them). Instead of folder we could define
views that we can switch.
Would really appreciate thoughts from other outlook users.
