Spell Checker will not work in Outlook

Outlook668
I have Microsoft Works and a trial version of Word

Perfect. I know that Microsoft Works has a spell checker

so it should check my outlook express outgoing messages,

but the spell check is grayed out on my outgoing email

messages. In the help section it states that if my

computer doesn't have a program like Microsoft works then

the spell checker will be grayed out. But I 'do' have a

spell checker with Works and I don't know how to get it to

work. I've been in the Options of Outlook Express and

Microsoft Works but can't find anything to configure the

spell checker. I just purchased my new computer less than

a month ago and it has Windows XP Home Edition.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your time.

I could not try the options on the first link because a

Windows XP CD was not included with the computer that I

bought. XP was already installed and had the unlock key

available to use.

I did try the first fix on the tech-pro site but it did

not work. I did have a Works 2003 CD, so I explored it

and copied the csapi3t1.dll to the Microsoft Shared\Proof

Folder and it still did not work.

I then copied it to the Outlook Folder and still no luck.

I used my Outlook as a mini word processor to check

spelling, and for sure I used it to check spelling before

I sent an email and I really miss this option.

Do you think that Microsoft will issue a patch or

something to correct this? I just do not know what to do

because it is such a minor problem and it is impossible to

talk to anyone without paying a fortune.

Thanks anyway for your time and your quick response.

OE does not come with a spelling checker. It uses the spelling checker from

any Office program that has one. Do you have such a program?

If not you could try one of these:

Free spellchecker.

http://www.quinion.com/mqa/spell.htm

or this, which I use on my laptop, which has Works.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/article.php?sid=2952&cat=10A

$15 shareware

http://www.spellchecker.com/

And here's a freeware that checks your spelling as you type:

TinySpell

Thanks for answering.

I was using Windows 98 with Microsoft Works Suite

installed and my Outlook always checked the spelling.

I bought a new computer with Windows XP Home Edition.

What is the difference in Windows XP with Microsoft Works

installed and Outlook not checking the spelling and the

Windows 98 version?

Thank you for your time and trying to solve my problem.

It appears to have started with either OE6 or OE6 SP1, but OE won't use

Works anymore. The freeware from majorgeeks is essentially the Word

spelling check. I really like TinySpell. In fact, I've turned off the OE

spelling check.

Re:Spell Checker will not work in Outlook

Outlook (OL) and Outlook Express (OE) are different applications. To which

are you indeed referring?

Some OE users will also need to place a copy of CSAPI3T1.DLL in the OE

program folder (usually C:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK EXPRESS).
