OL-2003 does not connect to POP3 email

Outlook558
On my new Notebook my Outlook is configured to work with a company exchange

server.

I also want to access my private POP3 mail accounts at a local ISP and have

created the accounts. As soon as I press 'Test Account Settings' the 'Find

outgoing/incoming mail server (SMTP / POP3)' tasks inmediately display a red

cross in front and status cancelled. I don't even see any progress when it is

trying to connect. The account details are 100% correct and no error message

is displayed.

On my old notebook this did work but now I cannot get it to work and my IT

department can not tell me what settings I may have to change.

Already I tried the option "Outgoing server requires authentication" on or

off.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re:OL-2003 does not connect to POP3 email

Rather than using the "Test Account Settings" button, could you actually try

a send/receive and report the error that it gives? The test button uses

completely different code from send/receive, and doesn't give as good an

error message.
