- Outlook Install >> Email defaultHow do I make Microsoft Outlook my default email? I've set up the account
and emails are going to Outlook "Express". I can import them into Outlook
but they don't go there on their own. I can't get Outlook "Express" to work
properly. I can only receive in it and nothing else. It keeps telling me I
need to reinstall because there is an error in configuration, but I can't
reinstall from my disk because I've since updated with Microsoft fixes.

an account that I only use to 'receive' emails. Even
though I have the 'send' setting on this account set to

- Outlook General >> How do I look at several versions of my Inbox at a time? Before I reinstalled Outlook 2003, I was able to just click on Outlook and
re-open it so I could have several versions of the Inbox open at the same

defaults to the Outlook Today view, and when I go to the Inbox view, it
overrules my other Inbox view instead of giving me a new one.

- Outlook General >> Check for new mail on: accounts unchecked, but still checkingThere's plenty of instructions on including an account when checking for
mail, but none for making it stop.
We have several e-mail accounts set up for different purposes that are
usually checked by different employees here. When they're gone, I need to
check their e-mails and I don't want to have to set up their account
everytime, recording passwords and such.
Under Options, in the Mail Services tab, it says "Check for new mail on:".
I'm assuming that's where I need to go to inactivate those accounts when I
don't need to check them, however, even after restarting Outlook after making
those changes, Outlook persists in checking the unchecked accounts.
So, is there some other way I have to go about telling it not to? Do I need
an update from Microsoft?
Outlook Express lets me simply say "Do not include accounts when checking
mail" etc. and it works.
What do I need to do here?
I'm using Outlook 2000 SR-1, Corporate or Workgroup. We're not actually set
up with a single central server or anything. We all have our own methods of
checking e-mail.
I'm using the profile "Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings", and I don't
have any other profiles set up.
I have it set to deliver mail to a different folder on a server, in case
that matters.
Thanks.

- Outlook General >> Search folder to find all mail send from and to a given domainI know that it is possible to define a search folder in Outlook 2003 that can
find all mail from and to specific people (of the form "user@domain.ext").
I would like to find a way to define a search folder that can find all mail
send from and to a given domain (of the form @domain.ext).
I can define a search folder that looks for a string of characters (such as
@domain.ext) in the frequently used fields, but this does not always work
because Outlook does not always display the actual e-mail address in the from
or to fields â?? it may only list a userâ??s display name (such as John Smith).
Question â?? is there any way to define a search folder that can find all mail
sent from and to a specific domain (of the form @domain.ext)?
Any assistance would be appreciatedâ?¦

I installed Win XP SP2 on my home computer a Compaq Deskpro EN SFF, P III,

access our email remotely. Until recently OWA worked as fast as other secure
sites over my DSL connection. Now OWA has slowed to the speed it used to run
at over my 56K dial up connection. Have there been any performance isses

I do not want to uninstall SP2 because of one site.

- Calendaring >> Meeting Request Response Addressed IncorrectlyWe are using Outlook 2003 without Exchange server. (We are using WorkGroup
Share to share calendars, contact lists and free/busy information but this
problem was duplicated between two machines without WorkGroup Share installed.
)
The scenario is as follows:
When a user sends meeting requests, they arrive with the Accept, Decline etc
buttons intact. When a recipient of the request responds using the button,
the response does not get back to the sender because it is addressed with an
incomplete email address.
Let's say UserA sends a meeting request to several users. His email address
is usera@company.com. One of the recipients is UserB who has userb@company.
com as his email address. When UserB accepts, the response email bounces.
Even though the request email shows it came from usera@company.com, the
bounce message says it is an incomplete address and contains only usera and
not the full email address.
Text of an actual bounce message follows:
The original message was received Fri, 04 Nov 2005 09:49:37 -0800 from
dmessmer
----- The following address(es) had permanent fatal errors ----- <jdavis>;
originally to jdavis (unrecoverable error)
The mail system encountered a delivery failure, code -3.
This failure could be due to circumstances out of its control,
please check the transcript for details
----- Transcript of session follows ----- The calendar item requested
does not exist.
In this case usera is jdavis
The bounce message also contains a Details.txt file whose contents are:
Reporting-MTA: dns; Tehama.k12.ca.us
Arrival-Date: Fri, 04 Nov 2005 09:49:37 -0800
Original-Recipient: jdavis
Final-Recipient: jdavis
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have my contact options set as Last First for Full Name, File As and in

All the time. You haven't set the sort order for the Outlook Address Book.
You've only set it for Contacts.
If you can't figure out how to do that, then post your Outlook version so we
can tell you.

I did restart Outlook and I even shut down my computer. I just deleted one
name from my contact list and re-entered it and now it works correctly, but I
really don't want to have to do that for 50+ contacts. Thanks for any input

Contact >> Contacts - Name order
So you're saying that you set your Outlook Address Book to sort by "File
As..." but they are not showing up as "Last, First." That would suggest that
you do not have your File As... fields set up in Last, First order.

Contact >> Contacts - Name order
I went to tools, email accounts, view or change exist directory or address
books, selected change, went to the MS Address book and changed the "show
names by" to File as Last First.
When I open up an actual contact card, I see the Full Name showing as Doe,
John. I see the File as: Doe, John and I see the Display as Doe, John. It
looks perfect, but when I create a new email, click on To: the contacts show
up John, Doe. I just can't figure it out, so I will probably find time to
re-enter them all since that seemed to work. Thanks for all your advice and
sorry for cross-posting.

Contact >> Contacts - Name order
Something is not right here. Open a Contact that is not sorting correctly
and examine how the name is actually parsed in the Full Name... dialog and
examine how the File As field actually appears.
If your File As field is set to Last, First, your Outlook Address Book will
sort as Last, First when you set it to sort by File As... It cannot do
otherwise. If it doesn't, you would be the first and only and I have no
explanation.

- Outlook >> outlook 2003 smtp timed out error 0x8004210A - no network activityI've got a group of identically configured OL2003
machines, some of which are intermittently, but
frequently, unable to access their SMTP server.
Testing has show that its not the MTU issue, and pop
traffic works fine, as does all other internet traffic.
When the ol2003 wont send email, network captures of
packets show that there is _NO_ activity at all coming
from the machine in question - it obviously thinks its
opened a connection to port 25 of the SMTP server, but it
has not.
The real kicker is that at this time, a manual telnet to
port 25 on the same smtp server, from the same client
machine, will work.
It looks like outlook has lost connection to its tcpip
stack somehow, but only for smtp traffic..
This problem is about to cause a downgrade of a fair few
ol2003 machines, so if anyone has any ideas of how to fix
this it would be much appreciated.

- Outlook General >> Outlook 2003/2007 and Exchange 2007 Public Folders IssuesSorry for the cross-post, but I'm not sure if this problem is
Outlook's fault or Exchange's fault. :o)
I have two problems that may be related. We had an Exchange 2000 /
Outlook 2003 infrastructure that was migrated to Exchange 2007 /
Outlook 2003. I have one desktop running Outlook 2007 for comparison's
sake. We migrated to Exchange 2007 back before the DST change this
spring and seemed to be working fine for a long time.
Recently (within the last 60 days), many of my users have been getting
errors in Outlook 2003 when opening or attempting to delete public
folder calendar items. The error does not necessarily occur for the
same item across multiple users, or for the same user across multiple
items, or even twice for the same item. In the case of recurring items
(though not all calendar entries are recurring), the error occurs
before even seeing the "This Occurrence/The Series" dialog box.
Outlook 2007 does not display the errors. Sometimes, restarting
Outlook makes the problem go away temporarily, sometimes it goes away
on its own, but it always comes back eventually, and it seems to be
getting worse as time goes on.
Usually the error is:
"Can't open this item. There is not enough memory available to perform
the operation."
Sometimes, more simply:
"There is not enough memory available to perform the operation."
or:
"The operation failed."
Possibly related, possibly not: Outlook 2007 in the same situation
(same public folder calendars on the same Exchange 2007 server), some
calendar entries get stuck open -- clicking the X or choosing "Close"
doesn't close them. The only way to get rid of them is to close
Outlook entirely, which then prompts to save and close the items (even
if no changes had been made).
I don't know if this is an Exchange or Outlook problem, but since
different clients behave differently, I'm inclined to think at least
some of the problem is an Outlook problem. My Exchange server is fully
up to date as are most of my client systems (with Office and Windows
updates). I don't see any related Event Log entries on the server or
the client side, and there aren't any errors in the sync issues folder
(though since these are public folders, I'm not sure there would be).
Or, maybe it's an Exchange problem and it's just gotten worse over
time since our migration as our public folders get larger and Exchange
hates me more... ;o)
Moving to Outlook 2007 would be a huge pain for my organisation but
can be considered if absolutely necessary. Moving off of public
folders would also be a pain, but we are aware this has to be in our
infrastructure roadmap since public folders are the bastard child of
Exchange these days.
Any advice is welcome. I've tried googling for answers, but am coming
up with nothing conclusive (just a lot of noise).
Thanks!

- Outlook Install >> How to automate rules or roll out rules in outlookI see that is question has been asked but not answered before. I am wanting to roll out Outlook to our 2500 odd desktops and need a way to push out some rules. Is there any way to do this? I have looked all over and even started trying to copy off and replace the files created in a users profile when rules are made. I can make the rules turn up but they are marked (for another computer) and don't seem to like to work.
For the sake of focus though lets not look at what I want to do and look at the question others are interested in also. How do I roll out rules to existing users or as part of an initial rollout. I thought OPS files did this but in my efforts it seems quite clear that they do not. Any ideas?

- Outlook General >> Creating a TemplateI would like to create a template so that each time I send out a particular
message I don't have to re-compose it each time. I would just need to change
one number each time; it would be the same general text and same recipients.
Thank you in advance.

- Outlook Install >> Export or transfer Email ID to a new Outlook installation??I have nearly 12 email accounts for 12 different companies where I do some
maintenance work.
It is tedious, and error prone, to reenter all these with the required
port information and logins and passwords, etc. when I install Outlook on a
new machine. How does Outlook EXPORT these? USMT did not seem to record that
information!
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Baram

- Outlook General >> PasteHello,
I am pasting hyperlinked text from MS Word 2003 into Outlook 2003. The
hyperlinked text is not underlined in the word document, but when I paste the
text into the email, it is underlined. Is there an option I can change to
prevent the text from being underlined and displayed as it is in the word
document. Using paste special -> formatted text did not work either.
Thanks,

- Outlook General >> The item could not be moved. It was already moved or deleted, or access was deniedDear All,
I am using Outlook 2000 SR1 & I have a situation I have never
encountered before.
I am using quite a few PST's and have to transfer mails to different
folder, which may be in different PST's. However Incoming mail comes in
one PST in an Inbox.
Now the problem I am facing is that every time I am transferring mails
I am getting the error "The item could not be moved. It was already
moved or deleted, or access was denied"
Deleting does not help either as I am faced with another error message
" The message interface has returned an unknown error. IF the problem
persists, restart outlook"
Restarting outlook or Infact Restarting PC does not help. I am
observing this problem for over a month now and the Inbox has completly
gone messy - it has 2321 messages. Size of this PST is not much even -
235 MB
Other PST's are anything between 200 - 800 MB and there is enough hard
disk space - almost 8 GB in various drives.
To end, I am using an independent machine and I am an administrator so
no privileges are disabled. Also, I am not connected to any exchange
server.
I have also run scanpst but it did not help either.
All advise and solution shall be highly appreciated.
Thanks and Regards,
LJ
