- Contact >> Why does Outlook 2003 Contact Form change with regional Unicode change?I recently had to change my Windows XP "Settings/Control
Panel/Regional and Language Options/Advanced/Language for
non-Unicode programs" to "Chinese (PRC)" in order to view
Chinese characters in a translation software package.
Strangely, after the above change, the form layout in
Outlook 2003 changed. Most significantly, the "Full
Name" button is no longer available on the main page,
which makes editing of names difficult (ironically, this
is even more required with Chinese names).
If I switch the non-Unicode language settings back to US
English, the form returns to the standard format, but of
course this is not an option since it also means that all
the menus and dialogs of the Chinese software are now
just "?????".
Does anyone know why the form switch happens? More
importantly, is there any way to force Outlook to just
keep using the standard Contact form layout even with the
different language settings?
Many thanks in advance for any help.

- Outlook >> Outlook 2003 FreezesWhen I try to open an e-mail wi an attachment, more often
than not Outlook 2003 freezes. When it doesn't the first
time, it will the third or fourth time. Once it begins
to freeze it becomes progressively unstable until at some
point it won't even start until I reboot. Even then, at
some point it becomes necessary to run a repair on it.
I've tried lowering the security - to no effect. Windows
XP wi all maint applied defines my processor as a Celeron

- Outlook General >> Need .bat file to copy Outlook .pst file to other computers. HELP!Can anyone please help me? I know there is a problem syncronizing Outlook
but I really don't need to enter Outlook data on my networked computers. I
just need my networked computers to view the Outlook data that is entered on
my main server computer. I might want to handle this two ways. First, I
have the .pst file in Network Neighborhood but I'm not sure how to point my
networked systems to look at this .pst file on the network in Outlook. How
do I do this (if possible)? Also, I might want to copy the .pst file from
network neighborhood to a networked computer's disk. Can anyone tell me how
to set up a small .bat file that would copy a file from one directory to
another. I've never done this before. Please help! Thanks!

- Outlook General >> generate read receipts for emails w/attachmentsI have my email preferences set to request read receipts for all emails.
However, it seems that if the email I send has an attachment, I do not
receive a read receipt for it, regardless of who it is sent to. Is there a
reason for this/a way to get around it? I'm using Outlook 2000. Thanks!

- Outlook >> Message attachments flagged by Server AV Scanner in E2K User to User MailInteresting one, any idea why this might happen?
Workstation Setup:
Windows XP
Office XP (Outlook 2002)
Exchange User to Exchange User messages, regardless of
delivery method, and only when using Office XP (Outlook
2002) fail. The recipiant, instead of getting the
message, gets this:
WARNING!!! (from smtp.domain.com)
The following message attachments were flagged by the
antivirus scanner:
Attachment [2] winmail.dat, scan failed: Scan engine
error.
Action taken: incomplete scan
Any ideas? I've seen similiar questions raised, but none
exactly like this and few answers.

installed Office 2003.
I've successfully exported all my e-mails from 2000 and

How do I export them.

- IE6&Outlook >> OE does not open linksI installed and checked out a couple of IE-based tabbed browsers and
have had some trouble with IE/OE 6 since then. The offending browsers
have since been removed.
When clicking on a link within OE, whether in an e-mail message or a
news message, a new IE window pops up but does not navigate to the
website. The blank IE window just sits there and the MS logo is still.
The MS online support pages are not helpful in finding this problem or
at least I am not entering the appropriate data for the search function.

- Outlook >> Norton AntiSpam removal workaround for NIS2004 and Outlook (not for OE though)!!Having just bought the upgrade to Norton Internet Security to v. 2004 (it
was cheaper than renewing my subscription) I am not a happy bunny. The whole
feel is much more laboured (the system seems much slower than with NIS2003
even though I have a fresh install of WindowsXP) plus they have added the
awful and pointless AntiSPAM !!
Unfortunately they do not have an option to omit AntiSpam from the
installation and it insists (even when disabled) in plonking a whole toolbar
on a new line into Outlook. It will only move or close on a per session
basis.
I had a scout around my system an found the following file:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Antispam\MsouPlug.dll
which is the Outlook Plugin used by Norton AntiSpam to load in the
application. By renaming this file it no longer loads and doesn't seem to
have any consequences on NIS2004 loading or running properly.
This is not true for the file:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Antispam\asOEHook.dll
which is the file used to load it into Outlook Express. If you rename this
one you get an error during startup complaining that an essential file is
missing. It doesn't seem to affect functionality of NIS2004 but it is
irritating at every start up.
I suspect it was hard coded to load because Symantec know OE is present on
every windows machine whereas Outlook is a separate bought app.
So for Outlook my advice is to dump Norton AntiSpam and stick with the
"POPfile and Outclass" combo which works really well, or alternatively use
MailWasher.
Hope this helps
Carol Haynes
PS. When did Symantec stop providing free support? I am not paying 18(UKP)
per call to ask how to remove a piece of bug ridden rubbish from my system!

- Outlook General >> Sent E-mail, With Attachment, Won't DisappearOutlook 2000: When sending a message with an attachment, typically an
embedded web site link, one user randomly has a problem where the sent
message will not disappear from her desktop even though the message was
successfully received by the recipients.
The message stays open and can be minimized and maximized. She can also can
click on the command bar in the message. The only way to get rid of the
message is to click on the X.
One last symptom, the body of the message displays whatever is displayed on
the desktop, right in back of the message, at the time she maximizes it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thx.

- IE6&Outlook >> WAB API bug was introduced by "Cumulative Patch for Outlook Express (330994)"In addition to my previous messages upon this subject:
After this patch, Q330994, Outlook Express's operation is also
partially broken:
Outlook Express can't display Birthdays or Anniversaries in it's list

from "Business phone number" to the "Birthday" to see this.
This behaviour proves, that there is some problem in WAB API.

- Contact >> Spam emailsHelp
I posted a question on the microsoft message board last
week using my real Sender's email address, and now som e
spammer is using my address to send out email.
About 10 times a day I receive messages saying
undeliverable email address back to me, most likely due to
there spam going out to a bad adddress.
Is there anyway I can block this use of my address.

appointments still are off 1 hour after the DST change for CST.
I have Windows XP SP2 with Outlook 2003. The current appointments all moved
