password protected section on website
Web Programming379
Can anyone advise me how I can create private areas of a website accessible (say) by password only? My wehsoting company says thaey need to set up a password protectd directory but I can no longer use frontpage to publish, must use FTP. I do not understand how to intergrate the two . George - |

Hi George,
Are you hosted on Windows? If so take a look at Page Protector Pro at www.websunlimited.com/order/Product/PagePro/pagepro.htm">www.websunlimited.com/order/Product/PagePro/pagepro.htm -- Mike -- FrontPage MVP '97-'02 www.websunlimited.com">www.websunlimited.com Need to add Meta Tags to your web pages www.websunlimited.com/order/Product/MTM2002/mtm2002_help_dir.htm">www.websunlimited.com/order/Product/MTM2002/mtm2002_help_dir.htm FrontPage Add-ins Since '97 2003 / 2002 / 2000 Compatible <grogu@optonline.net>wrote in message QuoteCan anyone advise me how I can create private areas of a - |

I use fuitadnet as my host. They let you set up your own
folders and they have a web admin program (c-panel) which allows you to crete your own password protected folders -- under which can contain passwoed only pages. Check it out. when you link to a page under the PW protected folder a login screen pops up, then if passed pushes you to the page. You set up the usernames & PWs. Its great and CHEAP Quote-----Original Message----- |

Re:password protected section on website
This great provided you have a group of pages that you wish to protect and
that there is only one userid and password shared amongst the members. The problem occurs when you change the password which you'll need to at some point, then how do you notify everyone that has been given the userid an password? The logistic can get out of hand real quick. -- Mike -- FrontPage MVP '97-'02 www.websunlimited.com">www.websunlimited.com Need to add Meta Tags to your web pages www.websunlimited.com/order/Product/MTM2002/mtm2002_help_dir.htm">www.websunlimited.com/order/Product/MTM2002/mtm2002_help_dir.htm FrontPage Add-ins Since '97 2003 / 2002 / 2000 Compatible <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com>wrote in message QuoteI use fuitadnet as my host. Re:password protected section on website
Actually you can make as amany username/PW logins as you
like for each folder. You don't need just one username/PW per folder. With the utility if a bonehead forgets their PW (which they usually do) you can look it up. Also you cna then use that username/PW on a different folder, in a sense making levels, allowed to access different folders. Quote-----Original Message----- |

Re:password protected section on website
But again this places a burden on the webmaster to maintain the userid and
password. It sounds like a neat system for a small < 25 users but if you plan to go beyond that or use any type of dynamic subscriptions .... -- Mike -- FrontPage MVP '97-'02 www.websunlimited.com">www.websunlimited.com Need to add Meta Tags to your web pages NOW with Google Bot controls. www.websunlimited.com/order/Product/MTM2002/mtm2002_help_dir.htm">www.websunlimited.com/order/Product/MTM2002/mtm2002_help_dir.htm FrontPage Add-ins Since '97 2003 / 2002 / 2000 Compatible <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com>wrote in message QuoteActually you can make as amany username/PW logins as you - |
