- ASP.Net >> Using virtual directories for common directories (scripts, images, styles, etc.)Hi,
(sorry for the crosspost, I wasn't sure which was the best place to
put this).
I was just thinking about something and wondered if any of you has
some ideas about this.
I'm using the NetAdvantage component suite from Infragistics for my
web applications. When installing they create several virtual
directories for the scripts and images directories that their
components use. That way e.g., when you drop a control on a form, and
the imagedirectory property is by default set to /ig_images/ it
automatically finds the images, no matter where the webform is located
in the hierarchy of the website.
I find this a clever idea. I've never done this and never seen a
website that does this, but it sounds like a good idea.
I mean, I have a web application with several subdirectories, user
controls, script/style/images directories etc. etc. It seems like a
good idea to turn my images, scripts, styles directories into virtual
directories, so that I can access them from anywhere within my web
application with simply the virtual directory name, not having to
worry anymore about those relative paths (../../).
I know about the "~" to access the virtual root, but I've had some
problems with that, especially when the web application is not in a
virtual directory but in its own website.
To make it short, it seems like all advantages, but are there any
disadvantages?
Thanks,
Jeffry

- Frontpage Client >> freezing a tableHi,
Is there a simple way to freeze a table and its contents
at the top of a page. I want the title cells to stay at
the top of my view.asp page when the user scrolls down...
If this involves asp code, would you be able to help me
with it please?
Thanks,
Matt

- ASP.Net >> Building controls which works in VS.NET IDEI have a customised class which inherited from the ASP.NET webcontrol (e.g. a
textbox), now I have add in a few properties into this class, and a few
simple script into it. I have build this control, and add it into the Visual
Studo.NET IDE toolbox.
I am wondering how could I add features like, wizard for this web control,
just like the way which ChartFx and Infragistics do. After you drag the
component from the toolbox to the design page, we could call up a wizard to
setup the new component.
I appreciate if anybody could help.
Thanks.

- ASP.Net >> Uploading files up to 150MB onto serverDear all,
I am running an online file management server that allows web clients to
upload files from a webform to the web server.
Using the code
"filename.PostedFile.SaveAs(fullPath);"
I have no problem uploading file with size up to 25MB, but the page starts
to create problem with any size above 25 MB - the error message displayed is
"Server Unavailable" or occasionally it just dies off.
I am running the web server using ASP.net framework 1.0 developed using C#
In the Application Log of the machine's event viewer, I get these message:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: ASP.NET 1.0.3705.288
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1003
Date: 6/26/2003
Time: 10:45:47 AM
User: N/A
Computer: ROSIE
Description:
aspnet_wp.exe (PID: 2108) was recycled because it was suspected to be in a
deadlocked state. It did not send any responses for pending requests in the
last 180 seconds.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: ASP.NET 1.0.3705.288
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1001

User: N/A
Computer: ROSIE
Description:
aspnet_wp.exe (PID: 1532) was recycled because memory consumption exceeded
the 306 MB (60 percent of available RAM).
I'd set the following value on Web.Config, but it still doesn't work:
<httpRuntime maxRequestLength="153600" />
Anyone know how to go around this problem? The uploaded file size could be
up to 150MB in size.
Cheers

- ASP/Active Server Pages >> shutdown ASP app from ASP page?1) I have an ASP3 app that is leaking something and
eventually lower level COM parts stop working. I can test
for this condition from ASP script.
Is there a way to shutdown the App from code?
2) The Shutdown button in IIS never seems to work while
there are active sessions. Is there a way around this.
(this would all be nicer in .NET)
Thanks

- ASP.Net >> GridView - Formatting a FieldI have bound a Gridview to a DataTable. On a couple of the fields I want to
not display all the characters of the field....I want to display "*" for 5
characters and then what ever are the last for characters of this particular
field.
The HTML code looks like the following for the field in question...
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Employee ID" SortExpression="EMPLOYEE_ID">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="Label2" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("EMPLOYEE_ID")
%>'></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
I tried to "*****" + Bind("EMPLOYEE_ID") .Substring(5) but does not like
this.
How do alter the format to be ***** + las 4 characters of the field?

- IIS >> IIS Transfer Configuration to new serverI transferred the configuration of the IIS 6 to a new server utilizing the
iiscnfg.vbs script which I had completed successfully.
My question is...
How can test whether or not the SMTP Virtual Server is working?
How can I check and forward any mail residing on the old IIS Server?
The new server has an IP Address of 192.168.1.16 and the new one has an IP
Address of 192.168.1.18. Is there a special configuration that I need to do
since both servers do not have the same IP Address?
Thank you.

- IIS >> IIS Virtual Directory Issues Connecting to ShareI have a Windows 2000 Server (SP4) and I am trying to
make an IIS virtual directory to a CIFS share located on
a NetApp.
The NetApp is in a domain named FMS and the 2000 server
is in a workgroup.
I've configured the NetApp's share to have full
privileges for the account I'm using to make the VD with
(FMS\shareuser).
On the 2000 server I've added an entry to the hosts file
for the NetApp as well, to help with hostname
resolution. From the 2000 server I can successfully make
a mapped drive (using the FMS account) and I can also get
to the share via the UNC path (provided I enter in the
FMS account's credentials).
When I try to make the VD in IIS using the Connect As
with the FMS user account, I get "Logon Failure: unknown
user name or bad password."
I've tried creating the VD using the IP address in the
UNC path, and I've also tried making a local account with
the same username and password as the one in FMS, and
neither of those options work.
Has anyone seen this behavior? What other options can I
try?

IIS >> ApplicationPool Identity DCOM Local Activation
I have a distributed web application that has the following configuration
Web application deployed on IIS6, Win 2K3 Web Edition SP1 on the DMZ
Web application remotes to objects hosted within IIS6, win 2K3 Web edition
SP1 on LAN
Remoting is configured as follows
Server activated, single call, Binary over HTTP
Remoting on the App server runs under a custom application pool with the
following configuration
All defaults except identity. Application pool identity is a domain user
say EMail@HideDomain.com.
Domain account is used to connect to SQL server using integrated security.
EMail@HideDomain.com is a member of the local IIS_WPG Group
Problem: Every 29 hours (default application pool recycle time 1740 mins) I
get the following DCOM error
Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10016
Date: 24/09/2007
Time: 01:37:52
User: DOMAIN-NAME\APPLICATION POOL IDENTITY
Computer: SERVER-NAME
Description:
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation
permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1}
to the user DOMAIN-NAME\APPLICATION POOL IDENTITY SID
(DOMAIN-NAME\APPLICATION POOL IDENTITY SID). This security permission can be
modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
CLSID = IIS WAMREG admin Service
My problem is that I do not understand WHY I should grant this permission.
Granting the permission fixes my problem but I'm not happy to commit the
change until I understand why I have to grant Local Activation permission to
the application pool identity. Anybody understand why I am required to grant
this permission?

- ASP.Net >> hash codes of passwords as query string?dear all;
my simple quetion is that if we have hashed the users passwords and
stored in databases.
then can we use that hash code e.g
D52987198EA2730FD22A38E7976344D843A7FFA0
in query string. the reasion for asking is that: are generated hash
codes are always unique? so that we can use them for page navigation
like in query string.

- Frontpage Programming >> New HTA- are Iframes the answer?Hi! OK, I admit it, I am a newbie coder but very much a techie generalist. If
you keep it to a medium level, I will probably understand you. Even links
would be useful.
I have undertaken the task of creating an HTA application in Front Page out
of about 60 movies rendered by Camtasia Studio and protected by MS DRM. The
rendering converts the movies from AVI to WMV, and creates a graphical index
of each movie using jscript in an HTML based file, with an imbedded Windows
Media Player.
Guess what? HTA conversion on the Front Page shell I'm building is NOT
causing a problem with the usability and viewing of these pages within the
HTA main window!!! YIPPEE!
What I cannot seem to do is add the necessary browser/page navigation
controls to the movie htm file in order to go back to the prior list of
movies. In this situation, the user would have to close the application then
restart it to navigate to a different movie. Not really the "user experience"
I want. So is this the case for an IFrame? (whattever that is) I want the GUI
to look non-browser, which is why I used the NAVIGABLE property of
HTA:APPLICATION
One other thing- I can display any Adobe PDF's I want, as long as I don't
want to display them in my HTA main window. I just get the horrible
goobletygook that tells me something is very very wrong. However, I can use
the context menu and display in a new window (with all the associated browser
warnings). Also, not the user experience I want.
Thank you so much for your attention! Regards, Ellen

- ASP.Net >> How To: Read AssemblyInfo Attributes @ runtimeHey all,
Can anyone show me the proper C# syntax necessary to read

- Frontpage Client >> favico.ico - againI seem to still be troubled by my favico.ico on the new website that I am
trying to build for a girlfriend -
http://www.brickwallbuster.com/new/index.htm
It does appear at first, but then when I flip from page to page, it
disappears, and when I then hit the HOME button to return to the index, it's
gone...
I have used a WDT, so I would think the code would be the same for all
pages.
I am completely baffled at what I have done wrong, and what is causing it to
disappear...

- ASP.Net >> ASPJPEG in vb.net ???Hello I have a working code for asp that I want to use now in asp.net.
The code is included below.
With this code I create a red bar on the bottom of an image, in which
I give some comment on the image and the URL of the website. In the
code image.asp I define the file name of the image (img), the comment
(txt) and the url (url). In the later stage in the project, this info
will be created dynamically depending on the requested image. The code
of sendbinary creates on the fly a new image, based on the 3
parameters.
I want to have this code now in vb.net to use it in my new asp.net web
application. Calling the current sendbinary.asp from an asp.net page
doesn't work.
Can someone please help me to rewrite this code?
Many thanks in advance!
Tony.

- ASP.Net >> Internet Explorer Render ProblemCan someone verify this error for me please and possibly explain why?
The only difference between Table #1 and Table #2 is the containing SPAN tag
on table #2 does NOT have width:100% in the style attribute. Otherwise,
they are exactly the same....looks fine in other browsers. This is a
partial result from a DataGrid inside a span. Just cut-n-paste and tidied
up the html to be a complete example for y'all :) Notice, that when it
renders in IE 6 (haven't tried other versions of IE) the border is gone from
Table #1, and it shows in Table #2...how does width on a parent container
effect borders of a child table?!?
Thanks,
Mythran

- ASP.Net >> Stop further execution in Page_LoadFolks,
My ASPX page uses a custom user control. What happens here is that
when a runtime error occurs in the ASPX page, the error is caught in
the error handler and then strangely, the execution continues to the
custom user control code and it blows there because of the error
occured initially in the ASPX page. When it blows it displays as
unhandled error even though I have try catch in my ASPX page and in
the custom user control.
Is there a way to stop execution if an error occurs in the Page_Load
method and return the contents gathered so far back to the client
(along with the error)?
I tried Response.End and it returns an emppty screen to the client. I
wanted to display whatever has been processed until the point where
the error occured. Pls note this works fine for normal ASPX page but
when I use a custom user control in my ASPX page then the execution
continues to the custom user control code even after an error occured
and caught in my ASPX page's try catch block.
Any thoughts pls?
