- Windows Vista >> Make Windows Mail defaultI recently installed both Vista Home Premium and Office 2007. I first
configured my Vista's Windows Mail account which set it as my default mail
handler. I then opened Outlook (from Office 2007) and was forced to
configure another e-mail account before I could access any of Outlook's
other features, i.e. calendar, tasks, contacts, etc. Now I want to reset
Windows Mail as my default. How/Where do I do that?

- Windows Vista >> BSOD Vista Ultimate driving me crazyIt started about a two weeks ago. At that time, I did a system restore =
and it seemed to go away. It started again Sunday. It just goes blue =
and it says something about divide by zero and reboots. It doesn't ask =
or anything. It is so fast I cannot read the screen. I went to do a =
system restore and wow, there is nothing to go back to. Weird! There =
are no restore points. Huh?
So I start uninstalling software I don't need. I run ccleaner. I go to =
Windows Live One Care registry cleaner. I go to hpcompaq.com and =
download new bios for my computer. Then I update the video driver, the =
audio driver. I install about 5 more that I have forgotten. I run the =
diagnostics on the harddrive and the memory. They all pass. I run =
scandisk; it passes.
I make it until this morning and it does it again. I check everything =
again. I update yahoo messenger. I uninstall more junk. I run more =
registry cleaner. I stop using sidebar. I get home this afternoon and =
it has happened without any interaction from me.
I just unloaded more stuff from memory. The only thing I haven't done =
is uninstall WindowsOneCare. I did stop using my PC as a hub for the =
circle. I got to have virus protection. Oh yeah, I ran virus check and =
adaware.exe, etc. No problems found.
Anything else to try.

- Windows Vista >> Several applications are trying to access the internet to specific ip address in vista only! ref/eDN3072784783The address are 10.0.0.138 which is a gateway address on the router and the
224.0.0.2 where is unknown to us internet address. This is happening also
with application that ARE NOT internet applications! In particular, a
specific program that had never requested internet access in xp pro now in
vista requires access. This mysterious activity found by zone alarm
firewall.
So we have the same applications with different system with different
behavior. I think that 99% system is responsible for this. Of course there
is antivirus installed, updated etc. The application's files are identical
with the original files, so cannot be virus activity.
Please give me more information about this issue.
Kind regards

- Windows Vista >> Registry Security settings problem on SP1dear all,
i don't know how, but i have trouble with the security settings of the
registry. There are some keys in HKLM and HKCR which don't have the correct
permissions.
When i try to take the owner ship as Administrator i get the nie message
that some of the subkeys can't taken over from the owner ship, also some
installations even as administrator report registry problems.
Is there any way to set the registry security settings to the default values ?

- Windows Vista >> Remote Desktop unavailable on lan after connecting to wireless? So I am trying to manage my system and a wireless router using a remote
desktop connection only to find that when I try to connect to any wireless
network Remote Desktop immediately forgets what interface it was started on
and refuses to accept new remote desktop requests until the wireless host it
was connecting to forcefully disconnects it (via unplugging, or other means).
Why does Remote Desktop forget what interface it is on and immediately bind
to the WLAN interface? I have configured windows to give preference to LAN
connections over WLAN connections (Network Connections -> Advanced Settings),
and there is no indication that the original LAN connection has been dropped
since all my other services are running as to be expected.
Because this machine does not have a videocard (waiting for RMA return) I
have managed this machine through Remote Desktop and this bug, yes bug- there
is no reason why it is terminating all connections to the non-affected LAN
interface, is making it impossible for me to manage my wireless router which
lost its configuration after a firmware reflash.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Disconnect from wireless if used and connect to LAN via ethernet.
2. Set priority to LAN device over WLAN device in Advanced Settings in
Manage Network Connections (Advanced menubar -> Advanced Settings (hit alt if
necessary to make menubar visible)).
3. Remote into machine using Remote Desktop (TSClient v6).
4. Start -> Connect to. Choose any access point Windows may not recognize.
[If you can only remote in, make sure it is an AP you can turn off]
5. Wait until windows attempts to connect. You will notice Remote Desktop
has lost its connection after about 30 seconds.
6. Ping the machine or access any other service running on it. It should
still be responsive on the LAN interface (as it has not been disconnected).
7. Attempt to reconnect using Remote Desktop over LAN. It should not connect
to that machine at this point.
8. Turn off Access Point you control. Attempt to use Remote desktop to the
machine that was unresponsive over LAN. It will connect now.
Expected Behavior:
Wireless device connects without interrupting and denying Remote Desktop
session.
Experienced Behavior:
As long as wireless device is connected, Remote Desktop becomes unavailable
until wireless device has been disconnected or disabled.
System:
Windows Vista Business, fully patched.
LAN [nForce4 Ethernet [ven/dev: 0x10DE/0x0038]: nForce 15.00 driver]
WLAN [Linksys Wireless-G PCI [ven/dev: 0x1814/0x0301]: Windows WHQL driver
2.0.3.0]
Note: This system does not currently have a videocard and can only be
accessed via remote desktop.

- Windows Vista >> Vista Domain User Profile IssueHi, I have searched for a solution for this problem for a while now and was
hoping someone could help. After loading Windows Vista Business on an Acer
Aspire 9410 I keep receiving the following: 'Your user profile was not loaded
correctly! You have been logged on with a temporary profile. Changes you make
to this profile will be lost when you log off. Please see the event log for
details or contact your administrator.'
This only happens with the domain user and not the domain administrator or
local user. I have give this particular user administrative rights and have
even tried a reinstall just in case there was something corrupt happening in
the first install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

- Windows Vista >> "My Pictures" crashes Windows ExplorerWhenever I open up "My Pictures" in Vista, all I see are the generic images
for the file types (i.e. a flower or a few shapes or a landscape for .jpg
or.bmp or whatever). After a few seconds, I get an error message that says
"Windows Explorer has stopped working" then "Searching for a solution" then
"Windows Explorer is restarting." Then, everything flashes away except my
desktop image, and then everything's back except the Pictures folder. I'm
running a new version of Vista, I only bought the computer a few moths ago.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

- Windows Vista >> request for spline curves for Vista, XP OSVista and XP come with the capability of doing Bezier curves. that
came with NT if I remember right.
controlling Bezier curves is like Alice in Wonderland trying to use a
flamingo as a croquet mallet.
I'm not saying take bezier curves out, because paint programs and
people use them. I am saying "Add spline curves", such as Akima
Spline.
with splines you just pick the points along the curve you want, and it
fits the curve to those points. simple. only gotcha is that you need
extra points around sharp edges.

- Windows Vista >> Restore Old User Profile and DataThis afternoon my 20 month old daughter climbed up to my laptop and held down
the power button so that Windows Vista Home Premium Booted and then
imediately shut down and began to reboot again. A black screen indicating
that Windows had not properly booted and I could boot as normal or go with
the system recommeded option, which I had assumed at the time was simply a
scan to ensure Windows was working properly. I selected the later. My system
went into what I think is recovery mode and began to make "images" of the
data and it seems that Vista re-formatted itself so that I was prompted after
all was said and done to create a new user profile. I would like to restore
the old profile with 11 GBs worth of invaluable data, but I'm not entirely
certain what happened, nor how to restore the original profile. I know the
size of my hard drive partitions did not change and when I view the Users
file in my primary partition the original profile is there. Any advice or
direction on where I could read a tutorial to figure this out would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

- Windows Vista >> Display probelms in VistaWhen I open a window that's not maximised, or open a dialogue box, or indeed
anything that's not full size, when I move the cursor outside of the
displayed area, the window disappears and the display reverts to the recent
most full size window. The application or dialogue box or prompt stays open
but I have to select it from the task bar and then ensure that the cursor is
kept inside the displayed area to prevent the same thing happening. Is there
anything within Vista that I can change to stop this?
Thanks to anyone who can help.
