- Windows Vista >> Turning off internet connection in Vista. How?Hello,
I tried to google, but was unable to find any instructions that tell
someone how to disable the MS-Vista internet connection. I would like my
Vista machine to be able to access the other computers in the LAN only.
How can one do this? I am about to spend some quality time with my
router, to see if I can accomplish this via router settings. If anyone
has any suggestions on this, I would greatly appreciate them.
Perplexed,

- Windows Vista >> Snipping ToolI have a new PC running Vista Home Premium. I tried the snipping tool soon
after I received the computer three weeks ago. It appeared to work fine at
that time. I just tried to use it again but could not find the shortcut. It
had been in the start menu under accessories but it was no longer there.
Using the Search facilities I found the program file "Snipping Tool.exe" on
my hard drive. I created a new shortcut but the program will not start,
nothing happens. I also tried double clicking on the "Snipping Tool.exe"
file. Again nothing happens. Any ideas anyone?

- Windows Vista >> Vista not loading on ubuntu/windows dual-boot!from my yahoo answers question:
Help! I've been dual booting windows vista and ubuntu linux, and it runs
smoothly most of the time, but sometimes windows just decides not to boot. It
gives me a loading bar with the fancy vista logo, and after that, instead of
going to the login screen, it goes to a black screen. This has happened twice
before, but the tools in the system recovery thing promptly fix it. But this
time is different. I boot in to windows system recovery, it loads, i briefly
see a command line window, and then just a blue screen. The system recovery
wizard is coming up! I even tried booting in to the system recovery cd i got
from hp.

- Windows Vista >> Vista Remote Desktop Connection no longer worksI purchased a Dell laptop in mid February with Vista installed on it and was
able to remote desktop to my work PC (which is running XP) no problems! It
requires a VPN connection to be established first.
About 2 weeks ago, it all of a sudden stopped working. The VPN connection
continues to establish just fine, but now I get the following 'remote desktop
disconnected' error message: "This computer canâ??t connect to the remote
computer. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner
of the remote computer or your network administrator".
I am able to connect to my work PC from my *other* PC at home no problem
(it's a desktop running XP) so I know it's not related to my work PC. Any
ideas? I just don't understand why it was working fine for several weeks and
then not. I tried disabling my firewall as a test, but the issue persists.

My question is, is there an .exe that will just allow me to view the

Windows Vista >> disable file system virtualization for an application
I've installed a couple legacy compilers on my new Vista PC and they
are giving me fits with what I believe is a file system virtualization
problem. In particular the compilers are trying to rename a file in
their \program files\ subdirectory, which fails, and prevents the
compiler's ide from functioning properly.
Is there a way to disable virtualization for an application?
If I uninstall the applications and reinstall them somewhere other
than \program files\, will this solve the problem? [I'd rather not
have to do this, but will if necessary]
Microsoft certainly created the unholy mess from hell with this
virtualization attempt.

Windows Vista >> disable file system virtualization for an application
Hi Scott,
A couple of ideas:
a) Set up a virtual machine using Virtual PC (it's free) and install a
legacy OS that the applications are compatible with.
b) Install it outside of the \Program Files directory tree.
Virtualization is designed to make it tough for malware to alter system
files, and applications need to migrate to this methodology to ensure system
integrity. The only other solution for situations of this type is to disable
UAC and alter directory permissions, and this also has the negative impact
of exposing the system to the exact type of attacks that virtualization is
meant to defeat. While this may be suitable for more advanced users that
understand the full impact of it, it's most certainly not for the average
one.

Windows Vista >> disable file system virtualization for an application
Also try running the compiler as an administrator.
Right click the compiler shortcut, click "Rus as Administrator".
If the compiler is command-line based, the run the Windows Command Line
as an administrator - Click Start, type CMD in the search box, then
right click on "Command Line" and then "Rus As Administrator"
If you go into the compatibility options for the compiler, you can
permanently set it to run as an administrator.

Windows Vista >> disable file system virtualization for an application
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. After playing with it a bit more
last night, I found that I could change the permissions for the folder
that the compiler sits in (the subdirectory off of \program files\) so
that I, the humble user, had permission to modify files. This seems to
be working.

- Windows Vista >> HelpI need help with vista x64.
I installed it today and my MN-510 does not have drivers for it.
I have Vista Ultima x86 x64 on my HP laptop and the MN-510 works on it but
when I installed Vista Ultima x64 on my main system it is not supported.
I was thinking that if I installed Vista Ultima x64 it would also install
x86 at the same time like on my laptop.
How do I get it to do that.
If need be I will reinstall it if someone tells me how I am to do it so x86
and x64 are installed.
I purchased Vista x64 thinking it would install like the copy that came on
my laptop.
The laptop is HP8510 with an AMD 64 x2
My main system is a Intel Quad core x64
What gives.

- Windows Vista >> Account SettingsWhen I create a new user account on Vista, is there some way to just copy
over all the settings from an existing account? The desktop, graphics
configurations and all that crap? I spent hours flushing all the Vista
stuff out of the original account to make it look like XP and speed up the
machine, customizing various things, icons, etc.
It would be nice to only have to do this once instead of figuring it out
again for every single account. And it would be nice when making some
change to one account to not have to redo it for every existing account. I
suspect this is built in somewhere, but I haven't been able to stumble into
it.
The "roaming profile" sounds like it may be what I want, but it's grayed out
in the "Change Profile Type" panel so I can't select it.
Thanks.

- Windows Vista >> NewsreadersPlease, someone give me the name of a newsreader I can purchase, a
newsreader that includes a tutorial concerning the use of the newsreader,
the meanings of all the options and menu listings and the results of the
changes I make to settings.
Yes, I am an inexperienced newsreader user, a newbie. I have used
computers for 30 years but only started using a newsreader a week ago due to
the limitations of the web interface newsgroups. The help section of WLM
tells me absolutely nothing. It is a complete waste of my time. I can't find
the answers to my questions anywhere. When I continuously post my questions
to this newsgroup it is a waste of your time also.
It irritates me to come across as being a moron and it is humiliating
to say the least. Intelligence, ingenuity and common sense are of no benefit
when using the WLM newsreader. I can read a tutorial in one hour and have
all the answers to all my questions or I can use WLM's newsreader and
continue asking questions for the next year, irritating the experienced
newsreader users. The very last thing I wish to do is irritate the other
users of these newsgroups and/or waste their valuable free time.
Again, if anyone is using a newsreader that also contains a viable
tutorial or help section please give me the name of the newsreader so I can
purchase it. I don't care how much money I must spend. I am fed up with WLM
although I like it very much.
Thank you for your time and any assistance you provide. I appreciate it
very much.

- Windows Vista >> Windows Gadget & Norton Internet Securuty 2008I have been using a Windows Vista Gadget called "DC Wireless Network
Monitor" to show the status and strength of my wireless signal. It, and
other Wireless signal gadgets had been working fine until I installed
Symantec's Norton Internet Security 2008. Now, all show nothing, no signal
or disconnected. I assume NIS 2008 is somehow blocking the "Gadget" from
getting the wireless info. Any ideas or suggestion?

Old VB3 prog. has icon embedded into .EXE
