- Windows Vista >> CTRL+C doesn't always copy into PC's memory.Hi folks.
I have a rather weird problem.
I use CTRL+C / CTRL+V to quickly copy/paste (text) things from one window in
Vista to another window in Vista. For example: CTRL+C from part of text in
email and CTRL+V to IE window.
The issue is: sometimes CTRL+C doesn't work for me: text is not being
inserted into PC's memory - all I get when pressing CTRL+V in other window to
paste my selected text - I get either previous copied text or nothing from
PC's memory.
I get an impression that my PC doesn't keep up with my pressing CTRL+C, but
even if I press it slowly, several times, then sometimes I also get that
glitch with CTRL+V having old text or nothing at all.
Nothing special installed on PC, PC is running smoothly otherwise, no
sticky-keys. (Installed newest driver from Logitech - nothing changed).
Any help?

- Windows Vista >> Diagnostic boot questionI keep getting an error message, "The requested resource is in use" on any
administrative user account, but not on the Administrator account. This
error happens when I try to run a .exe file, and run just about most things.
When I boot the system in Safe Boot - Minimal, everything works. When I boot
in Diagnostic startup, when very little more is running, the error is there.
The only difference between these I can tell when I run task manager is that
ONENOTEM.EXE and upeksvr.exe are running as processes, and slsvc, gpsvc, and
AppInfo are running as services in Diagnostic startup. Could one of these be
the cause, and what should I do to find out?
Thanks,
Mark

- Windows Vista >> Why do I get chinese characters in SOME sent newsgroup posts? If you want an illustration, take a look at the first "Re: Looking for
particular weather gadget" post appearing in this newsgroup about 20 minutes
ago.
Randomly (it appears) when posting to newsgroups, my posts have chinese
characters incorporated. If I reply to that post, the new post may or may
not show the characters as chinese - sometimes they are, sometimes they are
magically corrected back to what they were originally. (see the post which
replies to my own post mentioned above).
This sometimes happens when there is a series of >>> characters, which may
(or may not) be converted to assorted chinese characters.
I have already tried changing the character encoding in Windows Mail from
Mime to UUencode. That doesn't seem to have fixed it. I have Nod32 which
presumably scans outgoing posts. I wondered if that might be the problem.
I'm using Vista 64 Home Premium.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Windows Vista >> windows community postings suggestion
Microsoft, communities administration,
It would be really handy if you updated the forum to be equipped with a
resolved button. This would save so many people having to trawl through
hundreds of open support requests, and instead target resolved questions with
a view to resolving their own problem.

This is not a Forum, it is a Newsgroup.
You are only seeing it as a "Forum" because you are using the clunky web
interface as opposed to a proper newsreader.

Windows Vista >> windows community postings suggestion
LindaAnn:
To my mind, the "proper" newsreader is whichever one works for you.
However, that being said, not all people view this newsgroup in a way that
would make such a "resolved" button visible. Nor, for example, can they see
that button that lets you rate the posting.
I use Windows Mail to read this newsgroup. Before that I used Outlook
Express. Those were my "proper" newsreaders. However, neither would let me
view a resolved button if one were ever to be created.

What resolves something for one person doesn't necessarily for another so I
don't see where that really matters much.
By the way this is not a forum, it's a Usenet newsgroup, for which MS also
offers a web front end which in my opinion is an awful way to access these
newsgroups. I suggest you use a newsreader instead. Vista's Windows Mail
comes configured for newsgroup access under the Microsoft Communities
heading, and Outlook Express in XP can easily be setup for newsgroup access
as well. See this link.

This is not a Newsgroup, it is a Forum. See
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.vista.general&lang=en&cr=US&r=2a072220-0dc1-4760-b70b-a63e791bbc79
!!
No, wait - it's both! It's a newsgroup *and* a forum. Since
microsoft.public.windows.vista.general is conducted under the aegis of
Microsoft, who put a fair bit of effort into providing an accessible (ie
"clunky") web interface for a wide range of users, we shouldn't apply the
same standards we would to, say, alt.wolfenstein.hackers. Over there, we can
be a geeky and 3l33t-ist as we like. Here. it's intended for all Vista
users, with every level of technical expertise. Some folks are comfortable
with the clunky web interface, and we should accommodate them.
Personally I think LindaAnn's idea is a good one, I'll give it a "I agree"
in the voting pane.
Cheers
Andrew

Windows Vista >> windows community postings suggestion
I think having a Resolved button would be helpful; at least the writer was
satisfied that his issue was resolved, and the viewer would be able to view
or pass over the Resolved issues as he wishes.
Making a suggestion and having the discussion group vote on it where the
vote might influence MS, is only available on the Web-based interface and is
not available in the newsreader versions of Vista General Discussions.
Sometimes a Suggestion will be put through to the newsreader versions and it
tells you to click on a link to the Web-based Vista General Discussions where
you can vote on it. Apparently the newsreader version of iE General
Discussions has Suggestion as an option under the New drop-down menu along
with General Comment & Question. My suggestion is to make the Suggestion and
Voting option available on all newsreader versions as well as the Web-based
versions.

fine but when i installed it on my tablet PC i had some problems with the
video driver but i got them worked out i noticed that i can not switch the

how do i get it back?

- Windows Vista >> Double icon images on desktopI'm running Vista Home Premium on a Gateway GT5476E computer. Up to now,
everything has been fine. However, recently I noticed that some of the icons
that show on the Aero desktop often show full or partial copies/images of the
shortcut icons, adjacent to the real icon. This can be corrected by a refresh.
I have been installing a few image manager programs lately, like XNView,
Fast Stone, etc., and at one point I changed the refresh rate on the monitor
to 75 Hz from 60 Hz. When I changed it back, it was still happening.
Not a terrible problem, but annoying and, possibly, a sign of something worse?
Any ideas?

- Windows Vista >> Where Is File Size Column on Search Screen? As I've written previously to this newsgroup, I'm just starting out with
Vista Home Premium, having upgraded from a Windows Me desktop. I was just
trying to figure out why the heck almost one-quarter, 69 GB, of my 320 GB
hard drive is full?!?! My previous desktop had a 40 GB hard drive, and only
20 GB of it were filled after seven years of use!! What is going on here? I
have transferred some files from my old computer, but I haven't even started
really using this desktop yet.
So I'm trying to identify the culprits by performing an advanced search for
files larger than 10 MB. I launch the search and get multiple files that are
presumably larger than 10 MB, but there is no file-size column to sort the
files found by the search.

- Windows Vista >> Windows Media CenterHi all,
Having all sorts of trouble with WMC and having a hard time tracking
down any info online. I couldn't find a newsgroup so I thought I'd
post here.
When I started using WMC I had some rather basic guide functionality
available (it found EPG data for 3-4 channels. It has now stopped
being able to connect with the following message
"The Guide could not be downloaded for the following reason: Guide
Server error (Code: 34))."
Then I get a windows dialog saying windows media center updater has
stoped working and was closed.
This has gone on for a few weeks now and there seems no information
available on this anywhere. Anyone got any advice?
