Why has my media player stopped playing .avi files?



It will play .wmv files and thats about it.

try downloading www.divx.com



some avi are encoded with divx



tell me if this helps



if this doesnt help there is also another codec called xvid, I can give you

that link also

honestly, I gave up on media player a long time ago, try GOM Player. It's

free, plays almost everything, and has a very light footprint.

I tried updating wmp with the update and it said this update is not

applicable to your system!



What shall I do now?

I second GOMPLAYER from www.gomplayer.com



its the best player!!!



make it default for all media and just forget about media player



for audio I suggest www.winamp.com

It seems to do all I want and more.



No need for media player now.



If I could delete it I would.

Gomplayer puts the Microsoft giant and its crappy media player11 to shame..



Its about 1000 times better...



I hope MS never buys gomplayer though..
