- Windows Vista >> Rebooting at 'configuring updates 3 of 3. 0% completeHello
I still need more log files for the investigation that we are doing:
If people are running into this can you send me the log files.
Can you send me some of the log files from the system?
%windir%\logs\cbs\*.*
%windir%\WindowsUpdate*.log
%windir%\inf\setupapi.dev.log
%windir%\winsxs\poqexec.log (if exists)
%windir%\winsxs\pending.* (if exists)
%windir%\Performance\WinSAT\Datastore\*.*
%windir%\System32\winevt\Logs\application.evtx
Try booting to the Windows Vista DVD, choose the repair option in the lower
left-hand corner.
Choose to boot to a CMD prompt, copy the log files to a temp folder (or
onto removable media if available)
while in the repair more after copying the files to a temp location, you
should be able to choose the system restore option.
This should get you back operational.
Then send me the log file.
Remove the online section from the email name listed here before sending
darrellg@online.microsoft.com.
This is the blog on the issue:
http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/windowsvista/archive/2008/02/19/update-on-

stopped running any programs, including explorer, excel, etc. I click on the
icon and nothing happens. I try to access them through the c-drive and still
no luck. I can't even get the task manager to come up. I'm sending this from
a different computer. It is possible this problem occured after I loaded a

- Windows Vista >> After Vista reinstall and successful activation, Windows "thinks"Hi,
I had to reinstall Windows Vista today. I thought activation of the software
was going to be an issue as there is so much written on the internet about
this, however activation went ok, but ... surprise surprise, after minutes of
being using the system and a couple of drivers installed, Windows started to
display a message suggesting the Windows copy I have is not legal and that I
need to click on a link to validate.
After going through the on-line validation process successfuly again,
Windows still thinks the software is ilegal....
Please help.
Thanks.

I have a new HP a1700n with 1GB of memory. Vista seems to run pretty slowly,

this guy just trying to sell me a memory stick?

Up popped a Windows Security Alert saying Windows Firewall had blocked some
features of this program.
It also says at the foot of the dialogue "This program has already been
blocked or unblocked for a different network location"
Assuming that the app has not changed.....
Why block the unblocked app?
Only thing I know to have changed is recent Windows Updates and me
installing Netlimiter 2 Monitor.
Also, what is this "different network location"?

The beta isn't public, there may be a sign up form on
http://connect.microsoft.com/ for it.

Windows Vista >> beta testing sp1
There is currently no public beta test for Vista SP1. You can sign up at
Connect and nominate yourself to be a beta tester as Paul indicated, but
that's it. Microsoft is not taking applications specifically for the Vista
SP1 project.

Vista SP1 is by invitation only. Only testers in the Server 2008 Beta or
those who were part of the Vista Beta on Connect received an invitation.
Vista SP1 will be available from MSDN and TechNet at some point as well.

- Windows Vista >> 2.2 ghz amd only showing up as 1.0 under vista?I have a amd athlon 64 processor 3500+ that's 2.2 ghz that ran fine when I
used XP Media Center. I upgraded to Vista when It came out and I've had
nothing but problems ever since, my latest problems is I am not able to play
some of my games that worked perfect under xp because they read my processor
at 1.0 ghz, but vista still reconizies it at 2.0 under my system properties.
This is the last straw for me with vista... My question is 2 fold. First, why
is this happening? and second is... I'm done with Vista.. but since I
upgraded from XP media center to Vista Home premium am I able to do this? I
have heard some people saying my xp licesense key is invalidated since I
installed vista... is this true? someone please tell me how to get Vista off
of my hard drive please.

- Windows Vista >> "[program] hsa stopped working"Every time I try to start File Maker Pro, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe
InDesign, I receive an error:
"[The Program Name] has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
Does anybody have any idea why this is happening and how to fix it. Any help
will be appreciated.

- Windows Vista >> Windows Vista vs Norton - idiot questionHello all,
On November 2007 I have bought a new PC â?? HP 9050 -, which included a
licence of 90 days for Norton Internet Security 2007. Iâ??ve never liked Norton
â?? itâ??s too heavy and too complicated to work with.
So I decided that, since my licence already expired, to remove Norton and
install Panda Internet Security 2008 (Iâ??ve always used Panda products and
never complained).
First, I tried to remove Norton using the removal tool (downloaded from
Symantec Site) but it didnâ??t work (donâ??t ask why, it just did not execute).
Consequently, I decided to remove Norton manually (Add/Remove programs in
Control Panel). This removal process didnâ??t have any problems.
But Iâ??ve read in several magazines and forums that we need to clean our
Registry.
In Windows Registry, Iâ??ve deleted the following entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Symantec
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Symnrt
HKEY_CURRENT USER \ Software \ Symantec
HKEY_USERS \ .DEFAULT \ Software \ Symantec
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Current Version \
Uninstall \ Symsetup
After that, Iâ??ve searched in the System, including system files and hidden
files and folders, for anything related to Norton and Symantec.
For Norton, I found:
- Norton Internet Security 2007 Uninstall (Text Document)
- Norton Setup 10,2,0 (Text Document)
- Norton Antivirus (Scrip file)
- Norton Internet Security (Scrip File)
- Norton Live Update (Scrip File)
- Norton Personal Firewall (Scrip File)
For Symantec, I found:
- Folder Symantec: included the files Content (XME),
Symc_black_background_800_178 (PNG Image), Symc_int_sec (Icon),
Symc_logo_128_128 (PNG Image)
- Folder Symantec (another one): includes two folders â?? Definitions (with
file latest-hub-webauth.sql) and LifeUpdate (with file settings.liveupdate)
- Folder Symantec Shared, with a Subfolder CCPD-LC that included the file
symlcrst.dll
Iâ??ve moved all these files and folders to Recycle.
My idiot question is if I can delete definitely these files and folders from
my computer or is it any danger of causing instability to Windows?
By the way, my O.S. is Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bits.
Thanks

- Windows Vista >> Vista Service Pack 1 Beta SuspensionA couple of day ago, I read on http://www.betanews.com that microsoft
suspended the beta program due
to problem reported to the newsgroups. Well, does that mean that we won't
get SP1 at all now?
I was wondering.

- Windows Vista >> vista black screen hangOn my DELL notebook with 4GB RAM after login screen my system hangs with a
black screen, no mouse cursor and keyboard leds (CAPS, SCROLL, NUM) are
bloked, if I press the power button for a few seconds and then I start the
system again the Vista recovery screen apear and if I sellect "Normal
startup" it work fine.
I looked in event log and there is no event loged on the previous startup
(when it hangs)
From what can it be? I've installed all updates including SP1 and I've got
same error. Even if it happents randomly, it still happens. How can I find
why it stucks?

- Windows Vista >> Vista will not install some programsVery strangely, Vista 32-bit home premium will install most programs
but will not install others: Mappoint 2006, Nero 7 and the update for
Symantec antivirus. I've reinstalled the OS a couple of times, and it
stalls with these three. I run the installations from CDs.
These same CDs begin installing without a problem in two other PCs
with Vista and XP, respectively...In this particular system, I just
get the little circle after I press install and nothing happens. Any
advice?

- Windows Vista >> Vista Home Premium On Gateway Locks up intermittentlyRecently I have had issues with my laptop just locking up. I'll walk away
and start doing something else, then I'll comeback and the screen looks
normal. Then I'll either try and move the mouse (via the pad) and nothing.
I've sometimes had the sidebar open and other times it locked up it wasn't
on. Either or it still locks up.
I have to do a hard reset and this is not a good thing. Certainly this
machine and others are not built or designed for this type of performance.
Please help.

- Windows Vista >> Recycle bin error/bug?Okay when I drag an item to the recycle bin the graphic from empty to full
doesn't update, nor does it update when i refresh the desktop.
If I right click the recycle bin to empty it as I usually do knowing there
is something inside it, the option is greyed out.
Instead I currently have to open the recycle bin everytime just to delete an
item.
This picture may help with what I'm trying to say
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c367/omegajudgement/recyclebinerror.png
1. Item before being deleted
2. Item being dragged over recycle bin
3. Item in recycle bin while the graphic not changed
4. Right click to empty greyed out
5. Refresh page
6. Still not updated, greyed out option to empty
7. Open recycle bin and item is shown inside, missing the recycle bin due to
shoddy crop but the graphic updates to full when I open it.
How do I change it so it goes back to the way it once was?
