Trying to run updates & keep getting this error: code 643 or =
WindowsUpdate_00000643 as it states.=20
I cannot find any reference to it on MS sites. What does it mean & what =
do I need to do to install that update? The update (KB929729) has to do =
with .Net

- Windows Vista >> WMV fileSometimes when I enjoy some type WMV file I see online and want to save it,
when I go to Temporary Internet Files, it's converted to a DAT file. In WIN
XP, it's in WMV so I can copy it to another folder if I want to keep it. Why
doesn't Vista display the same info in temporary internet files as XP does?

I have a DELL E521 computer which came with MS Vista Home Premium OEM and 2
GB of memory installed and I want to add 2 GB more.
My question :
Do I have to call the Microsoft "India" vista activation center, because I
add more memory?
**The reason why I say "India", is because I always get someone from India
and you can't understand what there saying with the numbers there telling
you over the phone to enter in the boxes. I rather get someone I can
understand in texas or somewhere in the USA.

- Windows Vista >> Uninstalling Kodak Easy Share SoftwareI had Kodak Easy Share v2.1 on my computer. I went under Programs and
Features and removed it. Now whenever I restart my computer, an error message
comes up that says it cannot find kodak application. When I go under Programs
and Features, the kodak icon still appears. It isn't taking up any space on
my hard drive but it is annoying to have that error message pop up every time
I start my computer. Any ideas of what I can do?

when activation has been transfered to another computer?
I recently built a new system and activated my Retail
Vista License on that machine. Interestingly, the "old"
machine no longer will finish booting it "hangs" shortly
after starting and a network connection never occurs. Is
there some "deactivation" scheme to prevent a user from
running more than one copy of the program?
Not complaining just wanted to know.

- Windows Vista >> Problems while switching usersHi.
I just installed vista ultimate with SP1, and I've encountered some strange
behavior. When I first log into an account everything works fine, but when I
switch to a second account, or even log off the first one and then open
another, vista makes some problems. For example, the welcome screen appears
empty, no program is shown on the taskbar, and not all the notification icons
show up. Further more, it seems that the CPU start working hard for no
apparent reason, and if I open My Computer, it seems empty.
Does anyone knows why it happens or how to solve it?

was thinking about ordering it that way, but don't remember if I did and
can't tell from the documentation or the system page. BTW I'm running

Windows Vista >> DreamScene crashes
Hi
If I attempt to run any default Windows DreamScene Content as my desktop, it
runs for 5-10 secs then crashes with a message "DreamScene has had an
unrecoverable error while decoding the video" and desktop goes a solid black
colour. My video card has 256mb onboard memory.
Any ideas?

Windows Vista >> DreamScene crashes
I managed to fix a similar problem simply by uninstalling Dreamscene then
reinstalling it.

I have this problem since installed windows vista: in some softwares i can
not see the gridlines correctly, part of the grid area turn to white, and
some other parts show the old result when i click page up or page down.
This happens in excel (office 2007), in Vfp, ...
In Visual studio another annoying thing happens: when i change window and
the new window shows up, i can still see parts of the old window; if i click
in the area, the new contents appear, but sometimes i have to guess what
should be there, because i can click in some button that stays invisible for
me, there.
I suspect that this problems will occur with other softwares.
Does anyone have this behaviour with Vista? If so, how do you solve it?

Is anyone out there that could help me. I have a sony vaio VGC-LA1. I've
upgraded the OS to Vista thanks to a free upgrade from Sony. However when I'm
shutting down the pc, it keeps saying logging off and then freezes. There's
very little on the pc as I had to get the hard-drive replaced. Used the
recovery disc back to its factory settings, then upgraded to Vista. Only
program that may be causing problems is Norton Antivirus? Also occasionally
the screen just goes black/grey. Any ideas what's happening here? And how it
can be resolved? Many thanks

- Windows Vista >> Cannot copy from discs to HarddriveI've seen other Vista users complain of slow file transfers from disc to
harddrives, but no one else has had the problem of a complete inability to
transfer. When I try to do so, through a multitude of means (copy-paste,
drag and drop, Tera) I always get the same thing.
I get "File Copying Utility No Longer Working," then a pause as the program
seems to "look for a solution." It never does find one. And it closes
whatever program I was using to make the transfer.
I am within five days of selling this computer for an XP rig.

to find where to do this. i used the CMD using net user administrator
/active:yes but it told me access is denied. this is a one user computer and
i only want one user i need to know if there is any other way to enable the
administrator account so that i can delete it FULLY KNOWING THAT I WILL NOT
BE ABLE TO LOG INTO ANYTHING USING SAFE MODE IF I FORGET MY PASSWORD can
someone give me a straight answer?

- Windows Vista >> SFC /SCANNOW stops scanning at 98%SFC stopped scanning at 98% due to courrpted files it cannot fix. How do you
go about fixing these files? Because unlike XP's sfc, Vista's sfc isn't
prompting me for the vista cd to fix the remainder of these files.
I tried going into vista's installation cd and going into repair and then
command prompted thinking i can do a sfc /scannow from there but i get a
Windows Resource Protection message, which blocks me from doing anything
further.
I'm at an end here.

Space Shuttle videos, for gosh sakes! Internet Explorer closes with a DEP
error - what gives? If I can't watch a NASA video, how can I totally get rid
of DEP, which I did not want in any case? I don't know which programs within
NASA site are causing this and don't want to use the DEP control that lets me
add an exception! How can I disable this program which violates common user
friendly rules and terminates IE without any options or warnings???? Help!

- Windows Vista >> Vista 64 Mouse/Focus IssueHi,
I'm having a problem using Windows Vista 64 bit. Occasionally every one
minute to an hour, my mouse will not click anything on the screen anymore.
This happens in both Windows and in games. The only way to rectify the issue
is to ctrl-alt-delete, and choose to open the task manager. From this point,
I am able to click again.
I believe that explorer or the active game is losing focus, to an invisible
application. I have tried using three different mice, fully reinstalled
mouse drivers (and any hidden mouse drivers), removed any running software or
processes which were active.
I'm not quite sure where to go from here, and I'm practically ready to
reinstall Windows if I cannot find a solution.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I downloaded directx 9 to install on my laptop i thought it might help with
watching videos on youtube as i found they kept stoping and starting on me so
i started to install directx 9 and after it came up with the following
a cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted. please verify
the cryptographic services are enabled and the cabinet file certificate is
valid.

I tried moving my folders to a second data drive but messed up on the
first try. I've doubled up on the contacts folder and messed up my
folders under Administrator...
The yellow in parantheses denotes a regular folder. My file structure
is as follows.
Bert

Contacts
Contacts (Yellow) I can't seem to be able to delete this.
Desktop
Documents
...the rest are fine, then
Under the C:\drive I have

Administrator
Favorites(yellow)

...the rest are fine.
Does anyone know of a guide to fix all this? How is the stucture
sopposed to be layed out? Any help greatly appreciated.

- Windows Vista >> Program stopping errorI just got Vista on Sunday so I'm very new to it. Please forgive me if this
has been asked before.
Sometimes, when I close a program, mainly IE or Snipping Tool, I get an
error message that says, " The program has stopped working". Well, it
stopped working because I closed it.
Am I doing something wrong? I just hit the X at the top tight of the window
as always.
Other than this, I'm very happy so far with my Vista experience.

120GB Hard Drive, Dual Layer 8X DVD Burner. I'd like to know if I can " turn
the clock back ", putting my laptop back to the day I bought it. I have
already downloaded whatever files I want to keep on some cds. If it's
possible to do, I need someone to show me step by step procedures. Yes, I
have the disks that came with the laptop. My laptop is only 4 months old,
but it's running like an old man , and I suspect that's because whoever set
it up had put a lot of "junks" in before I bought it. Trouble is , I can't
tell which is which, so I don't dare to uninstall them. Anyone with the
patience to lead me along ?

with the default file picture laying on top of it. It just started out of
the blue.
