- Windows Vista >> Re: A little confusedconfused Mike says Do windows users regularly harass the linux news groups?
You do not see the harassing posts if you effectively learn to use your "kill file" feature in the news reader that you use. It should have one, use it.
Mike Hall "Malicious Various People" says No, they don't..
Correct, as he uses a kill file.
norm says Yes, they do. He does not use a file kill as he does not know how to use it.
This post was made using Vista with no special software or word processor.
It takes a while to learn to use. Learn to use the Tabs feature and use multiple windows that you can move from one to the other while you are working. In one window tab I am playing poker making money on line. All the sites offer free money.I have driven $500 to $7500 in three weeks all using Vista. The gaming software works on it. On one I have an on-line spell checker and one of the others I have the newsgroup reader in this case Go ogle and in one I have a on line Use net poster.
Vista is a new O/S and sure it has problems but it is the wave of the Future and will get better with age.It is better then XP as it has more security features.Read this newsgroup you will learn more. The so called harassing posts are just one or two trolls. Ignore.

- Windows Vista >> VISTA IS ScrewedI've been running Vista for more than a yr and I'm giving up and going
back to XP. I've got some serious hardware and the product still
blows.
I've been thinking about what is so good about Vista?
It does look better.
It does not crash as often.
MS claims the security is better, but I find it so intrusive that I
view the new "security" as a big negative. Hell I can buy the best AV
and firewall products on the market for XP and be a whole lot happier.
That is about it for the good list.
The bad........
Sometimes without explaination, files can not be deleted due to
"security" even if you are a admin. Sometimes they appear to be
deleted but come back, at least until you reboot. This is pretty
scary stuff for an "enterprise" OS.
Copying large amounts of data takes forever, sometimes so long that
the time remaining is infinite. How could MS mess up basic file
manager activities so badly?
Way too many third party products a year into this gig still do not
support Vista or claim to, but don't work as well as they do on XP.
Vista is slower than XP.
What real tipped the scale was Vista SP1 vrs XP SP3. Not sure why MS
did that, but now a better product, XP, has improved more than Vista
as SP1 falls way short. i.e. the gap between XP SP3 and Vista SP1 is
greater than XP SP2 and Vista.
If there was ever a time that for a new OS to enter the market, this
is it. MS has become the dinosaur.

- Windows Vista >> MS - Vista OfficeI was told to post my question here by another newsgroup.
I have several new users running Vista. They can access items on our local
server, AutoCAD, pdf's etc... but can only access word and excel items as
read only. They have full rights to the folders and files, and a few of the
files were orginially create by the same user in XP.
It says read only and cannot change anything on the docs, and excel sheets
without having to rename them first.

- Windows Vista >> windows media player 11Hello, I am running vista business, windows media player 11.
When playing a video file that has the wrong codec, a red X would display on
the right ride of media player in which I could click on and it would take me
to the web to find the codec, I inadvertently must have clicked "donot
display this" and cannot get the information to display on the side of media
player...
any thoughts?
thanks in advance

- Windows Vista >> vista and 2 physical processorsOK, i have seen some posts on this group to the effect that vista
business and ultimate will support multi processors, but not home
premium.
i have a dual processor setup 2 athlon MP 1800's and 2 gigs RAM
i didn't know that home premium would not support it, so i bought
that.
i have just recently figured out that while you can see 2 processors
in the device manager, only one seems to be actually processing data.
so i am willing to upgrade to ultimate, providing it will actually see
the 2 processors and use them.
so i decided to call MS directly.
the first call was routed to a sales rep who read the EULA stating
that i could legally install the copy on a device with 1-2 processors.
that didn't help...
so i went back through and got transferred to a tech ... in india...
that assured me home premium should be able to see both, and they
would help me resolve the issue.
1. he tried updating the drivers, that didn't work
2. he tried adding the second processor through a regedit, by copying
the contents of the first folder... that didn't work either....
3. he tried uninstalling the processors
4. he tried telling me the reason the second processor wasn't showing
up was because it would show until the system needed it.. like under a
graphic intense situation... this despite the fact that the one
processor showing was pegged at 100% usage just opening the task
manager.
but it also happens that i do graphics, so i opened photoshop and
illustrator and the task manager, and still no second processor
5. he is now having me reinstall vista...
6. he is telling me if that doesn't work, that it isn't a windows
problem but some issue with the motherboard.. a setting... [it worked
great under XP pro by the way...]
i have repeatedly asked if home premium really supports the two
processors and he has repeatedly told me that he has checked and that
is not the issue.
I would gladly pay [well, maybe not gladly, but i'd do it ...] for the
upgrade to ultimate if it will utilize the second processor and so
speed up some things that are completely bogged down, BUT....
i don't want to bother paying for ultimate if it won't help.
so... will vista ultimate see and use the second processor?
should home premium see the second processor?
thanks for advice..

- Windows Vista >> TCP/IP Problems!!!We have built quite a few systems running Windows Vista Business. After the
OS installation and updates, the computer is not getting an IP address from
the router. It is getting the non-routable 169.........address. It is not
all of the systems, just a few. We have tried to no avail solving this
problem, and end up formatting and starting over; a client has called saying
he cannot get to the Internet with his new computer. I asked him to check
his IP address and it was the 169........ When the computer left the shop
it was connecting to the Internet just fine.
We are really frustrated!!! Is this a VISTA problem, and update problem or
????
Thanf you for your help in advance!!

- Windows Vista >> "Scroll Bar" Icon?Using a new Gateway T-1610 with Windows Vista. Have never used Vista before.
Don't know if this is a Gateway question or Windows, but thought I'd try
here. As I move the pointer around using the touchpad, a little icon that
looks like a very small scrollbar (about 1/4") pops up and disappears
constantly. I can't figure out what it does or how to use it. Can't find a
refernce to it in the Gateway PDF user guide (probably because I don't know
what it's called). Can anyone help? Silly question, I know. Thanks!

- Windows Vista >> Vista and Media playerI have a problem with my new PC (Dell Dimension 690) with a Core 2
Quad E5335 processor, 2 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD
When I use Media Player 11 sometimes the sound stops for 0.5-3 sec.
This seems to be due to searchindexer.exe writing to the HDD. If I
disable Windows Search I don't have the problems. But I don't really
like doing so.
Anyone else experienced the same problem, or could something be wrong
with my machine?
- 10
- Windows Vista >> Windows Movie Maker problemI have a relatively old (but working) movie recorder which records in
MP4 format.
It plays back fine on my PC (with the Klite codec pack installed -
otherwise it doesn't) but whenever I try to upload any video to
YouTube or edit it in Movie Maker, the picture is mis-aligned.
I seem to only get the top left-hand section of the original video.
It's like the recording has zoomed to the top left-hand quarter/third
- which obviously ruins the recording.
The original if fine (I see the whole picture) but whenever I try to
do anything with the video, I get this weaird effect.
I appreciate that the MP4 format is a nightmare but this is really
strange.
Any ideas? Or can anyone recommend another video editing programme
that can output in different formats?
Thanks.

- Windows Vista >> new updates installing and restarting computer... without warningYeah I was in the middle of a game on my laptop that has the new Windows
Vista on it when the game just shut down, then the computer restarted because
of new updates that were installed, causing a loss of information. what
moron came up with the idea to have the computer download and then restart
without warning and without giving the user time to save their data? That
makes the list of the dumbest ideas ever. Only an idiot would think that was
a good idea. I mean to run any program or do anything or download anything I
am bombarded with questions about whether I am the one wanting to do that,
but yet this happens, without warning, causing me to lose a lot. I am just
glad I wasn't in the middle of writing my thesis when this happened or else I
would really be pissed at likely having lost a lot of work. The idiot who
thought of this idea needs to be fired, and the idiot that hired him or her
needs to be fired. The idiot that should have caught such a stupid idea
should be fired. Why would anyone want such a thing on their computer? I can
see why so many people are downgrading back to XP. With such morons in the
company, its a wonder Microsoft hasn't been run into run into the ground.
What great idea do you have next? A computer that shocks its users
constantly? Or one that every other day deletes any and all files the user
has on it? That seems to be the tracks these idiots are on.

- Windows Vista >> How do I remove Vista from a partition? To make sure Vista would work with all my hardware and programs, I created a
second partition on my XP machine and installed Vista on there (Vista Home
Premium). All my hardware and my important programs worked so I thought I'd
bite the bullet and upgrade my XP installation on the first partition. That
also worked OK (apart from losing all my Music and Videos which I am
restoring from backup, at present) and I have used EasyBCD to remove the
entry for the copy of Vista on my second partition but I can't seem to delete
all the directories and files that are on there. It says I don't have
permission to many of them. I also keep Norton Ghost backups on that
partition so I don't really want to format it. As I am logged on as an
Administrator, why don't I have access to everything? What can I do to allow
myself to delete all the Windows files and directories?

- Windows Vista >> windows live messengerCan't get live messenger to work with vista on dell computer.error81000306.it

- Windows Vista >> Windows Vista Fast User SwitchingI have 3 people using my PC and all of them have their own accounts.
When you press WINKEY + L your session gets locked and your back at
the login screen. In windows XP pressing this showed all users, in
vista you then need to click 'switch user' to see all users. Is it
possible to make vista act the same way?

- Windows Vista >> Vista compatibility with XPI have a new PC with Windows Vista installed. However, I work from home with
an organisation which has several employees who use Windows XP and Word 97
and they are having trouble opening my documents
I know I can save individual docs by saving as Word 97-2003 compatible, but
having to remember to do this every time is becoming a nuisance.
Can I set my computer to default to this method of saving docs everytime?

Windows Vista >> Microsoft Communities? News Groups
When I first started using Vista Windows Mail, I think I had (in the
left-hand pane of Windows Mail) "Local Folders" for mail and "Usenet News"
and "Microsoft Communities" for news groups. I'm not sure what the Microsoft
group was called but I deleted it as I thought I probably would never use
it. Is there a way to get it back as I am curious to see what was available
there?

- Windows Vista >> Iexplorer does not open for general UsersAny user but the Administrator can not get IE7 to open. A Windows error
comes up saying, "iexplorer has stopped working". It give two options, 1)
CHECK ON-LINE (duh) OR 2) CLOSE THE PROGRAM.
I have tried the recommendations to turn off ADD-ONs, but no help ( all were
turned off). I suspect that this only affects the ADMINs setup, since you
can't open any USERs IE7.
When you open as a user, right click and select open as Administrator, it
says that iexplorer is an "Unidentified Publisher".
IE7 has been working for months, till Thur 1/10/08. If I can't get this
fixed, its back to XP!

Further info is Locale 1033 and Product 768_1.

the driver doesnt help. I yanked out the only expansion card, the video and
used the onboard video, still BSOD. In the bios I disabled things like
onboard hardware, but I still got the BSOD. This install of Home Premium was
pretty stable, and this has been the only major issue.
NTBTLOG.txt file shows the last driver installed as being CDFS.sys.
How can I resolve this? Please advise.

- Windows Vista >> Third Party UninstallerHi,
I noticed there are few uninstaller application, such as Uninstaller 2008,
Perfect Uninstaller, Revo Uninstaller, etc, which claim by them that they
able to completely unistall the software we installed, including the

Are these software safe to use for long run? I had a problem before, which
using some registry cleaner, it messed up my registry and some files, and I
had to restore my Windows Vista.
Thanks and Regards,
