i tried to check whether my soundcard has suitable drivers by opening the
sound icon on the classic control panel window and then i selected sound and
the recording tab. i tried to look for Stereo Mix, Wave-Out Mix or What U
Hear, but it was not listed. so i right-clicked on the blank area of the
recording tab and selected show disabled devices from the pop-up menu. but
nothing showed up, i was looking for something like Stereo Mix, Wave-Out Mix
or What U Hear but i could not find them!
any suggestions on how enable Stereo Mix, Wave-Out Mix or What U Hear options?

- Windows Vista >> Recovering filesWell, when I just turned on the computer the message "Configuring updates"
and "Please wait" appeared. Afterwards, when it was completed, all the
programs previously open (I kept my session in memory) were closed! When I
opened IE, all the tabs were there, but other files I were working on were
gone. Anyway to get them back?

- Windows Vista >> Vista not loading on ubuntu/windows dual-boot!from my yahoo answers question:
Help! I've been dual booting windows vista and ubuntu linux, and it runs
smoothly most of the time, but sometimes windows just decides not to boot. It
gives me a loading bar with the fancy vista logo, and after that, instead of
going to the login screen, it goes to a black screen. This has happened twice
before, but the tools in the system recovery thing promptly fix it. But this
time is different. I boot in to windows system recovery, it loads, i briefly
see a command line window, and then just a blue screen. The system recovery
wizard is coming up! I even tried booting in to the system recovery cd i got
from hp.
specs: compaq presario v6000, vista home premium, ubuntu feisty fawn.
help please!

- Windows Vista >> Account SettingsWhen I create a new user account on Vista, is there some way to just copy
over all the settings from an existing account? The desktop, graphics
configurations and all that crap? I spent hours flushing all the Vista
stuff out of the original account to make it look like XP and speed up the
machine, customizing various things, icons, etc.
It would be nice to only have to do this once instead of figuring it out
again for every single account. And it would be nice when making some
change to one account to not have to redo it for every existing account. I
suspect this is built in somewhere, but I haven't been able to stumble into
it.
The "roaming profile" sounds like it may be what I want, but it's grayed out
in the "Change Profile Type" panel so I can't select it.
Thanks.

- Windows Vista >> Searce folderThere's a folder in the my documents folder called searches. There are
numerous sub folders under it and, together, they contain 5300 items taking
roughly 39 GB of space on my drive. What is the purpose of this folder? Can
it be deleted without destroying my system? If so, how can I prevent this
folder from filling up again? I was directed to this site but found no help
there.

- Windows Vista >> disable file system virtualization for an applicationI've installed a couple legacy compilers on my new Vista PC and they
are giving me fits with what I believe is a file system virtualization
problem. In particular the compilers are trying to rename a file in
their \program files\ subdirectory, which fails, and prevents the
compiler's ide from functioning properly.
Is there a way to disable virtualization for an application?
If I uninstall the applications and reinstall them somewhere other
than \program files\, will this solve the problem? [I'd rather not
have to do this, but will if necessary]
Microsoft certainly created the unholy mess from hell with this
virtualization attempt.

- Windows Vista >> Control Panel PrinterHi,
In the control panel > printer section of Vista Business, I see all my
printers. This seems to be viewed via Windows Explorer.
My question is, is there an .exe that will just allow me to view the
printers on its own?

Clement

- Windows Vista >> Vista Remote Desktop Connection no longer worksI purchased a Dell laptop in mid February with Vista installed on it and was
able to remote desktop to my work PC (which is running XP) no problems! It
requires a VPN connection to be established first.
About 2 weeks ago, it all of a sudden stopped working. The VPN connection
continues to establish just fine, but now I get the following 'remote desktop
disconnected' error message: "This computer canâ??t connect to the remote
computer. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner
of the remote computer or your network administrator".
I am able to connect to my work PC from my *other* PC at home no problem
(it's a desktop running XP) so I know it's not related to my work PC. Any
ideas? I just don't understand why it was working fine for several weeks and
then not. I tried disabling my firewall as a test, but the issue persists.
Help!

Windows Vista >> BUG Win Photo Gallery: overlapped previews vanish when focus is lo
In Windows Photo Gallery, the overlapped previews vanish, when the focus goes
to another Window and so when you return on Win Photo Gallery, the overlapped
preview is not shown!
Reproduction steps on Windows Vista RTM:
1. open the Windows Photo Gallery
2. move the mouse over the images and you'll see the overlapped previews
3. click on the desktop or on another window
4. click on Windows Photo Gallery
5. move the mouse over the images and....
,,,, the overlapped previews are NOT shown!!!
Is this bug fixed in SP1?

- Windows Vista >> HelpI need help with vista x64.
I installed it today and my MN-510 does not have drivers for it.
I have Vista Ultima x86 x64 on my HP laptop and the MN-510 works on it but
when I installed Vista Ultima x64 on my main system it is not supported.
I was thinking that if I installed Vista Ultima x64 it would also install
x86 at the same time like on my laptop.
How do I get it to do that.
If need be I will reinstall it if someone tells me how I am to do it so x86
and x64 are installed.
I purchased Vista x64 thinking it would install like the copy that came on
my laptop.
The laptop is HP8510 with an AMD 64 x2
My main system is a Intel Quad core x64
What gives.

- Windows Vista >> Uninstalling and Reinstalling Windows VistaI purchased Windows Vista in Feb. 2007. A couple of months ago it started
doing goofy things and Best Buy suggested that I uninstall and reinstall and
then get updates. I have backed up all my files. Question 1) After
reinstalling, which updates should I install? I saw several on the download
site. 2) Will I lose my printer hookup by doing this? Thanks.

- Windows Vista >> Backup on XP (qic file) to VistaTry to make a long story short. 6 year old laptop running XP SP2 finally bit
the dust. Have laptop backup on network drive (1 large .qic file) using
"Backup my PC" version 5. Need new laptop. All come with Vista. "Backup my
PC" doesn't have Vista version yet. Is there anything out there that will
take the qic file from my network drive and restore to a new Vista laptop?

- Windows Vista >> NewsreadersPlease, someone give me the name of a newsreader I can purchase, a
newsreader that includes a tutorial concerning the use of the newsreader,
the meanings of all the options and menu listings and the results of the
changes I make to settings.
Yes, I am an inexperienced newsreader user, a newbie. I have used
computers for 30 years but only started using a newsreader a week ago due to
the limitations of the web interface newsgroups. The help section of WLM
tells me absolutely nothing. It is a complete waste of my time. I can't find
the answers to my questions anywhere. When I continuously post my questions
to this newsgroup it is a waste of your time also.
It irritates me to come across as being a moron and it is humiliating
to say the least. Intelligence, ingenuity and common sense are of no benefit
when using the WLM newsreader. I can read a tutorial in one hour and have
all the answers to all my questions or I can use WLM's newsreader and
continue asking questions for the next year, irritating the experienced
newsreader users. The very last thing I wish to do is irritate the other
users of these newsgroups and/or waste their valuable free time.
Again, if anyone is using a newsreader that also contains a viable
tutorial or help section please give me the name of the newsreader so I can
purchase it. I don't care how much money I must spend. I am fed up with WLM
although I like it very much.
Thank you for your time and any assistance you provide. I appreciate it
very much.

- Windows Vista >> Burning Pictures onto CDI have Windows XP and have tried unsuccessfully to transfer (burn) pictures
that I have on my computer to a disk. I keep getting a message "Windows
encountered a problem when trying to copy this folder. What would you want
windows to do?" Then I have my choices of Retry, Stop or Cancel. I have
followed the directions of going into My Computer and highlighting the file
to be sent to the CD but it does not work.
I have tired to find answers in the Help but there is nothing pertaining to
the message that I have been getting every time I try to burn pics onto the
CD.
I have read posts from others with similar problems and I follow the
directions that were given to them but I still get the same message. What am
I doing wrong?

- Windows Vista >> Vista does not "see" icon in VB3 executablePer the subject line.
Old VB3 prog. has icon embedded into .EXE
but Vista does not see it.
Worked fine through XP.
Not a real problem, I just used one from the presets,
but thought dev. team might like to know.
And to those of you who are considering a non-helpful
response along the lines of "why the he-- are you still using
VB3, you moron", please reconsider and just shut up.
I have my reasons (chief among them that I don't have the
time nor the inclination to try to port it as it's working perfectly
across ALL Windows platforms clear back to 3.1).

- Windows Vista >> Windows Gadget & Norton Internet Securuty 2008I have been using a Windows Vista Gadget called "DC Wireless Network
Monitor" to show the status and strength of my wireless signal. It, and
other Wireless signal gadgets had been working fine until I installed
Symantec's Norton Internet Security 2008. Now, all show nothing, no signal
or disconnected. I assume NIS 2008 is somehow blocking the "Gadget" from
getting the wireless info. Any ideas or suggestion?
Thanks,
CSM
