- Windows Vista >> Flickering slideshow!Does anyone have the flickering problem when playing picture slide
show in full screen?
I've been using Vista ultimate for about a year, but I did not use
slide show before.
I do not have any video/display problem with Vista except this.
Anyone has a solution?

- Windows Vista >> Missing RAMI have searched the other posts and haven't found the answer to my problem.
It is similiar to some of the other posts but none of what was suggested
didn't work so hopefully someone can give me more ideas to fix it.
I have a DELL Laptop with 2 512 mb chips in it, running Vista Home Basic
(and then upgraded to Home Premium). My bios show correct amount of memory
but when I check my memory on my welcome screen it states 896 and then when i
go to the actual system properties it show 894. Anyone have any ideas where
any extra memory may be hidden (that is what Dell said was happening) and how
to fix it?

- Windows Vista >> Search fails to find divx and flv files...even after i rebuilt the index many days ago. the only way I can find
divx and flv files using search is to go to advanced and choose "Include
non-indexed, hidden, and system files...". Otherwise the only divx
files search finds are the shortcuts in recent documents, but not the
actual movie files. same thing for the flv files. This lack of search
reliability makes me leery of using Explorer's Search feature in any
mode but advanced, "include non-indexed..." mode. that sucks, as that's
very laborious to get to that screen and choose that option every time i
want to find a file. anyone have any ideas why divx and flv files are
not found, while jpgs, docs, xls files seem to be located by search
without issue? i had been thinking its due to the size of the files,
but one of the flv files not found is less than 500k, so size is NOT the
issue after all.
Search also shows files that have been deleted...as zero byte
files...and it doesn't show them in the recycle bin, but rather as them
being in the directory they formerly resided in. Another aggravating
"feature" of Search.

- Windows Vista >> Lazy MouseGiven the long delay in loading and displaying an application; why does the
mouse icon not indicate background activity.
I am constantly frustrated by Vista showing NO indication that it is busy
loading the application I have just launched. I click on the Windows Live
Mail shortcut on my Desktop and I wait......
The screen does not move.... the mouse remains an arrow.... still
nothing...
Sometimes, I lose patience before the screen actually displays a 'busy'
mouse icon and I re-launch the shortcut.... still nothing.....
This lack of indication is more pronounced under Vista - as it appears to
take so much longer to launch an application.
Is there any way to tell Vista to indicate 'busy' AS SOON as it embarks on
one of these long, long loads?

- Windows Vista >> Roaming Profiles and lost data.Hi,
Practically all my users use laptops, (we are a very mobile company) and
travel. To help recover from the inevitable stolen or damaged beyond repair
problems this brings with it, we use roaming profiles. This brings with it
three problems, which I'd hoped Microsoft would have resolved with Vista, but
haven't. Our problems are thus, whilst out of the office :
1. If you user, saves an e-mail attachement to anywhere (within the users
Documents folder) except on they desktop - it disappears when they next come
into the office and login.
2. If a user deletes icons/files either on his desktop or in any of the
documents folders, they're reappear when they next come into the office and
log onto the network.
3. If they rename a folder, and create a new folder using the old name,
create a new file in that folder, then return to the office and login,
whatthey get is a mess: The contents of the old folder re-appears, with the
new file in it, but the renamed copy of the old folder is lost.
Firstly has anyone experianced the same problems (we've experianced in both
XP and Vista).
Secondly, has anyone found a fix for with - wiht/ without using a third
party application.
Finally, Microsoft, please could you resolve this problem in Service pack 1
of Vista. It's a great function but if users have to remember a set of do's
and don't about what they can and cannot do with respect to files and folders
when traveliing - it may as well not be there, as it's just another headache
for IT.
Thanks in advance.

- Windows Vista >> Please help me achieve ultimate authority in VistaHome Premium, working beautifully except for this problem.
As the sole user of this computer, I want to be able to
do ANYthing with at most a single UAC alert that's
responsive to an "OK" by me.
However, too often when I seek to move a file from one
folder to another, or do other routine tasks, I can't.
How do I become the highest level of administrator?
Thanks, gurus

- Windows Vista >> Vista won't shut down and Touchpad problems, are they related?Hello, i'm having some problems with my Acer Aspire 5101 Laptop.
I upgraded to vista about 1 ½ months ago and everything has been working
just fine, but the other day some problems occured;
1, the computer does not shut down entirely it says "logging out" until I'm
forced to shut it off manually.
2, the touchpad has stopped working, or, I can use it for about five
seconds, just after i've enterd my password but then it just freezes. tried
uninstalling the drivers then re-install them and looking for updates both on
the Acer homepage and the Synaptics homepage
3, Msn doesn't work, when i click on the icon nothing happens and then when
i try to re-install it it says that it's alredy running. Also LastFm doesn't
work, similar probs there
Some months ago, after connecting my PC to a projector my Synaptics touchpad
stopped working, but after that, the computer went off to tech suport and it
got fixed. Since then i have upgraded to Vista and downloaded new driver ect
and everything has worked great until this monday or tuesday..
Extremely greatful for help! :)

- Windows Vista >> After Vista reinstall and successful activation, Windows "thinks"Hi,
I had to reinstall Windows Vista today. I thought activation of the software
was going to be an issue as there is so much written on the internet about
this, however activation went ok, but ... surprise surprise, after minutes of
being using the system and a couple of drivers installed, Windows started to
display a message suggesting the Windows copy I have is not legal and that I
need to click on a link to validate.
After going through the on-line validation process successfuly again,
Windows still thinks the software is ilegal....
Please help.
Thanks.

- Windows Vista >> Start Menu disappeared, taskbar freezing...Hi guys, I've been running Vista x64 for just under 2 months and
everything was fine up until today. All of a sudden while using my pc,
the shortcuts and internet explorer/email links have disappeared within
my start menu (everything on the right side is still there) leaving a
huge white space. Also, right-clicking on my taskbar and going to
properties, followed by changing something to do with either the
start-menu or the toolbars makes the window hang and taskbar/start menu
hang, and explorer needs to be restarted. I installed a few programs
today: Photoshop CS3, PowerISO, MagicISO (couple of my standard tools)
but none of these should have affected my setup. I've tried checking
error reports, setting diagnostic mode in msconfig, booting in safe
mode, checking for viruses with Kaspersky, uninstalling MagicISO and
PowerISO but no help. I REALLY don't want to have to reinstall Vista,
and if it comes down to it I'll probably reinstall XP as I've never had
any problems like this before, so help me make my Vista purchase worth
it!

- Windows Vista >> Multiple user accountsAfter doing a format and a clean install of Vista I wanted to add an account
for my girlfriend so i went to user accounts and made one given standred
privelages. After which trying to log in I got an error windows live mail
failed to initalize because it could not access msoe.dll. Anyway it seemed to
be loaded all the processess but there was just a blue screen,no desktop or
windows shell explorer. So I figured it was the video card but my account
loaded up perfectly fine. Then I had a brain fart and decided to try giving
the account full admin privelages and it worked. Is there a specific reason
for this and a way to fix? any help would be appreciated. An e-mail I can be
reached at is sonicerror@hotmail.com

- Windows Vista >> Recent Vista Start ProblemAbout 3 weeks ago, my Vista computer started to give me problems at start up.
It will start and complete the POST, then it display the words "Starting Windows Vista" (at the
bottom of the screen) flash the hard-drive activity light for a few second and then freeze. A
reboot gives me the option of safe mode, normal start, etc. If I choose any start option but the
Safe Mode, it will freeze at the same point.
However if I choose Safe Mode, it completes the setup. Then, without any action while in the Safe
Mode, I choose Shut down - Restart and it does a normal startup and runs just fine until I shut down
again.
Just before it started this problem I was working on getting it to share files on my home network.
I had loaded Network Wizard software. I have since removed Network Wizard and did a system restore
to point prior to this activity. However the problem continues.
This is a shop test machine and I do not access it but about three times a week (for learning Vista
to help other with computer problems. All my other machines have Windows XP.)
I could re-install Vista, but I would rather learn what is causing this problem.
Any suggested steps would be appreciated.
Computer is a home built PC. 1.2 GHz Intel CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 80 GB WD drive, two CD drives and a
wireless PCI NIC card.
This computer case has a three way switch to select one of 3 hard drives. So with three separate
hard drives, the computer also runs Windows XP Pro and XandRos Linux system. I don't have any
startup problems with either of the other two configurations. (Note all hardware is identical,
except the hard drives in all three systems.)

Run system restore to before you did your registry cleaning, and avoid
registry cleaners.

- Windows Vista >> Recycle bin error/bug?Okay when I drag an item to the recycle bin the graphic from empty to full
doesn't update, nor does it update when i refresh the desktop.
If I right click the recycle bin to empty it as I usually do knowing there
is something inside it, the option is greyed out.
Instead I currently have to open the recycle bin everytime just to delete an
item.
This picture may help with what I'm trying to say
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c367/omegajudgement/recyclebinerror.png
1. Item before being deleted
2. Item being dragged over recycle bin
3. Item in recycle bin while the graphic not changed
4. Right click to empty greyed out
5. Refresh page
6. Still not updated, greyed out option to empty
7. Open recycle bin and item is shown inside, missing the recycle bin due to
shoddy crop but the graphic updates to full when I open it.
How do I change it so it goes back to the way it once was?

- Windows Vista >> Firewall blocked an unblocked programI opened an app I use often.
Up popped a Windows Security Alert saying Windows Firewall had blocked some
features of this program.
It also says at the foot of the dialogue "This program has already been
blocked or unblocked for a different network location"
Assuming that the app has not changed.....
Why block the unblocked app?
Only thing I know to have changed is recent Windows Updates and me
installing Netlimiter 2 Monitor.
Also, what is this "different network location"?

- Windows Vista >> Rebooting at 'configuring updates 3 of 3. 0% completeHello
I still need more log files for the investigation that we are doing:
If people are running into this can you send me the log files.
Can you send me some of the log files from the system?
%windir%\logs\cbs\*.*
%windir%\WindowsUpdate*.log
%windir%\inf\setupapi.dev.log
%windir%\winsxs\poqexec.log (if exists)
%windir%\winsxs\pending.* (if exists)
%windir%\Performance\WinSAT\Datastore\*.*
%windir%\System32\winevt\Logs\application.evtx
Try booting to the Windows Vista DVD, choose the repair option in the lower
left-hand corner.
Choose to boot to a CMD prompt, copy the log files to a temp folder (or
onto removable media if available)
while in the repair more after copying the files to a temp location, you
should be able to choose the system restore option.
This should get you back operational.
Then send me the log file.
Remove the online section from the email name listed here before sending
darrellg@online.microsoft.com.
