- Windows Vista >> Why do I get chinese characters in SOME sent newsgroup posts? If you want an illustration, take a look at the first "Re: Looking for
particular weather gadget" post appearing in this newsgroup about 20 minutes
ago.
Randomly (it appears) when posting to newsgroups, my posts have chinese
characters incorporated. If I reply to that post, the new post may or may
not show the characters as chinese - sometimes they are, sometimes they are
magically corrected back to what they were originally. (see the post which
replies to my own post mentioned above).
This sometimes happens when there is a series of >>> characters, which may
(or may not) be converted to assorted chinese characters.
I have already tried changing the character encoding in Windows Mail from
Mime to UUencode. That doesn't seem to have fixed it. I have Nod32 which
presumably scans outgoing posts. I wondered if that might be the problem.
I'm using Vista 64 Home Premium.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

- Windows Vista >> CTRL+C doesn't always copy into PC's memory.Hi folks.
I have a rather weird problem.
I use CTRL+C / CTRL+V to quickly copy/paste (text) things from one window in
Vista to another window in Vista. For example: CTRL+C from part of text in
email and CTRL+V to IE window.
The issue is: sometimes CTRL+C doesn't work for me: text is not being
inserted into PC's memory - all I get when pressing CTRL+V in other window to
paste my selected text - I get either previous copied text or nothing from
PC's memory.
I get an impression that my PC doesn't keep up with my pressing CTRL+C, but
even if I press it slowly, several times, then sometimes I also get that
glitch with CTRL+V having old text or nothing at all.
Nothing special installed on PC, PC is running smoothly otherwise, no
sticky-keys. (Installed newest driver from Logitech - nothing changed).
Any help?

- Windows Vista >> Upgrade Vista with Technet questionI have three Vista machines currently, two are running Vista Business
from the Action Pack, one is running an OEM copy of Vista Home
Premium. I just subscribed to downloadable Technet and would like to
understand the easiest way to upgrade these three machines to
Ultimate. It's my understanding that Technet will allow me to upgrade
up to 10 machines (much like the Action Pack license)?
The easiest upgrade path seems to involve a Vista upgrade CD which is
generally procured through buying the upgrade via Windows Anytime
Upgrade (via Control Panel), but since I'm not buying anything, I know
of no other way to acquire that particular upgrade CD.
Do I want to just download the Ultimate DVD and perform an install, or
is there a cleaner way?
Thanks.

- Windows Vista >> Installing Updates ForeeverI have ultimate installed on my year old Dell laptop with 2 gig of ram.
Lately, if I download updates, upon reboot it goes into the Installing
Updates mode and this goes on and on and on. It prevents me from using the
laptop for perhaps 20 min each time. Any suggestions?

inability to access the documents and settings folder. I eventually figured
this out, but in the process i deleted some of these junction points. is

- Windows Vista >> Can't open Folder Options in Control PanelHi All.
I'm using Vista Premium and have had no problems for months until I tried to
open up "Folder Options" in "Control Panel". The icon is visible but I just

If anyone has any idea's on how to fix this problem, It would be really
appreciated.

Windows Vista >> Add/Remove Program
Questions are often responded to multiple times, often with exactly the same
answer. No big deal.
Profanity isn't appreciated here any more than it is in the real world. Go
back to high school and learn how to communicate.

- Windows Vista >> BUG: Visual Studio 2008 Express changed the windows's tooltip coloI have installed Visual Studio 2008 Express edition in Windows Vista, and I
found this huge bug:
the tooltip shown to the up corner of a window has the old yellow style
color.
Minimize, Maximize, Close buttons show a yellow tooltip in Explorer and all
other programs, instead buttons, system tray icons and other UI elements show
Vista grey style tooltip.
It seems VS2008 Express has changed some Vista shell dll files.

- Windows Vista >> Can't Open Control Panel or Computer PropsI can no longer get into the computer properties or the control panel on my
Vista Enterprise machine. See the attached picture for the error...no matter
what I try, I can't get around this and my account is has full access.
This only happens on Administrator accounts...I have a standard user account
who can still access the control panel and the properties of the the
computer. I even created a new administrator account to see what would happen
and its the same thing.
Any suggestions beyond a reload which I really don't want to do...this is a
fairly new install.

- Windows Vista >> Sleep mode awful with SP1Don't count on sleep mode working any better with SP1 than w/o. I just
had to hit the power button to shut Vista down, as it refused to go into

ok, and resumed, but failed to shut down from that session. Thanks for
nothing, MS.

- Windows Vista >> System RestoreI have a problem with System Restore. I run Vista Business on 2 PC. It is not
the same Vista but 2 Vista Business. When I open System Restore I have only
system point from present day even when I select the second option, I get
only from present day. I have seen on another PC with Vista Business as mine
that ther is a possibility to put a mark when you want system point more than
5 days old, this is feture is not on my System Restore. Does anybody has a
solution on that?

- Windows Vista >> windows community postings suggestionMicrosoft, communities administration,
It would be really handy if you updated the forum to be equipped with a
resolved button. This would save so many people having to trawl through
hundreds of open support requests, and instead target resolved questions with
a view to resolving their own problem.

- Windows Vista >> Double icon images on desktopI'm running Vista Home Premium on a Gateway GT5476E computer. Up to now,
everything has been fine. However, recently I noticed that some of the icons
that show on the Aero desktop often show full or partial copies/images of the
shortcut icons, adjacent to the real icon. This can be corrected by a refresh.
I have been installing a few image manager programs lately, like XNView,
Fast Stone, etc., and at one point I changed the refresh rate on the monitor
to 75 Hz from 60 Hz. When I changed it back, it was still happening.
Not a terrible problem, but annoying and, possibly, a sign of something worse?
Any ideas?

- Windows Vista >> Windows Media CenterHi all,
Having all sorts of trouble with WMC and having a hard time tracking
down any info online. I couldn't find a newsgroup so I thought I'd
post here.
When I started using WMC I had some rather basic guide functionality
available (it found EPG data for 3-4 channels. It has now stopped
being able to connect with the following message
"The Guide could not be downloaded for the following reason: Guide
Server error (Code: 34))."
Then I get a windows dialog saying windows media center updater has
stoped working and was closed.
This has gone on for a few weeks now and there seems no information
available on this anywhere. Anyone got any advice?

- Windows Vista >> iTunes issueI installed the latest version of iTunes and every time it launches I get an
error box that tells me that iTunes wasn't installed correctly and wont burn
CD's. But iTunes works fine. I re-installed and get the same error box.
Anyone else seeing this?
Probably just an Apple conspiracy to undermine Vista. ;)
- 14
- Windows Vista >> Diagnostic boot questionI keep getting an error message, "The requested resource is in use" on any
administrative user account, but not on the Administrator account. This
error happens when I try to run a .exe file, and run just about most things.
When I boot the system in Safe Boot - Minimal, everything works. When I boot
in Diagnostic startup, when very little more is running, the error is there.
The only difference between these I can tell when I run task manager is that
ONENOTEM.EXE and upeksvr.exe are running as processes, and slsvc, gpsvc, and
AppInfo are running as services in Diagnostic startup. Could one of these be
the cause, and what should I do to find out?
Thanks,
Mark
