- Windows Vista >> Simplest (Vista-compatible) macro-maker ???Objective is to hit easy combinations of keys to
generate small blocks of text, like address, driving
directions, description, etc. Nothing more, though it
must be Vista-compatible.
Tried Phrase Express, but it's constantly begging and
intrusive, and is more than I need.
Just looked at autohotkey, which seems to be the Empire
State Building of macromakers. I need a rented room on
the lower east side.

- Windows Vista >> I think system restore deleted lots of my cs files on Vista UltimateI did a system restore to a restore point 2 days ago before I installed some
drivers that screwed up my ability to eject a sata drive.
Then I noticed that all my csharp .cs files were missing in my VS2008 folder
from my project files under mydocuments. The other files were there but not
th e.cs files. Weird is that they showed up in search but I could not open
them and properties showed 0 bytes.
Attrib showed no hidden files.
This is one of the worst of many bugs I have seen in Vista. The system
restore and shadow copies are real pieces of crap imo.
Anyone else had problems in this area or have suggestions on what happened
to these files. They certainly are not in the recycle bin and an undelete
program showed nothing and the disk checks just fine.
Really upset at Vista...

- Windows Vista >> Gates: Windows 7 may come 'in the next year'http://www.activewin.com/awin/comments.asp?HeadlineIndex=43309
MIAMI--Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates on Friday indicated that Windows 7, the
next major version of Windows, could come within the next year, far ahead of
the development schedule previously indicated by the software maker.
In response to a question about Windows Vista, Gates, speaking before the
Inter-American Development Bank here, said: "Sometime in the next year or so
we will have a new version." Referring to Windows 7, the code name for the
next full release of Windows client software, Gates said: "I'm
super-enthused about what it will do in lots of ways."

- Windows Vista >> Microsoft Word 97 installation failureI tried to install Microsoft Word 97 on my new
Vista Home Premium laptop. It ended up
/user/<username>/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Word...
Actually, it failed to install.
It appears that it should be located
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Word
(q1) should I change user to admin?
(q2) is there a better suggested location?
Tnx,

- Windows Vista >> Need Vista HelpI just got a new laptop and this is my first exposure to Vista which I
find very frustrating.
I was used to opening Windows Explorer and dragging and dropping files
to the CD drive, and right clicking to burn files to a CD. This was
much easier than dealing with a CD burning program.
Can I do something similar in Vista? I cannot find Windows Explorer.
Someone please help me.

- Windows Vista >> After backup disc #17, Vista tells me backup "failed"I just spent a day and a half creating several back-up disks so that I can
reinstall my OS. After creating disc # 17 (almost 18 hours after I created
disc #1), I did what I did for the previous 17 discs and inserted a new disc
#18. I then received this error:
"The backup did not complete successfully. An error occurred. The following
information might help you sove the problem: The wrong diskette is in the
drive. Insert %2 (Volume serial number: %3) into drive %1. (0x80070022)."
Again, I had already created 17 BACKUP DISKS and if I have to start over,
well some blood will be spilled tonight (and it will be my laptop's and
Vista's...)
Please tell me all is not lost. I had previously installed Vista on a
less-than-year-old laptop which apparently did not have enough juice to run
this OS successfully (or efficiently or even slowly) and I'd had enough of
waiting 30 seconds for a photo to open or 5 minutes for the the thing to boot
up. So I wanted to install a fresh copy of XP and get out of this he**. So I
did what I was supposed to do and let Vista do the backup. I have no idea
where to go from here. Any advice would be most appreciated.

- Windows Vista >> where did my deleted emails go?All of a sudden when I delete an email in Windows Mail they disappear. They
used to go to the deleted folder but not any more. They are just GONE!
Anyone know why and how to fix this. Sometimes I like to refer back to an old
email I had previously deleted so I would like to change this setting back.

- Windows Vista >> The requested resource is in use.Help. Whenever I try to do anything, like run an .exe file (such as to
install a print driver), try to open Event Viewer, or any other
Administrative Tool, run CMD As Admistrator (it will run normally), run
regedit, and so on, I get the error message "The requested resource is in
use." Creating a new administrative user account fails to fix it. I have
run Safety.live.com, Spybot, McAfee Security Center, and the PC is clean.
However everything runs fine if you login as Administrator. Is this how
Vista is supposed to work? I thought the Administrator account was not to be
used all the time, but that is the only account that doesn't cause this error
to appear. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mark

- Windows Vista >> Vista64 and NeroI tried to install Nero 7 Ultimate (Enhanced), which claims to be Vista
compatible. During the setup, Nero stopped install to tell me it needed
to "upgrade" my system. The upgrade...install Direct X 9c. When I didn't
accept, Nero stopped the install. So, if I accept it so that Nero will
continue the install, will Vista recognize the attempt to overwrite a
more current version of Direct X and prohibit it, or will Nero win out
and screw up my system?
You would think software claiming to be Vista compatible would recognize
correct version of Direct X.
Thanks,
Fitz

- Windows Vista >> CD burnt in vista not working on XPSince I was tired of the slow speeds of vista and I was getting a ton of blue
screens because my network card was not compatible with it, I uninstalled
windows vista and went back to XP.
That all worked fine, however I backed up a few of my files onto a CD-R with
vista. Now those files cannot be read by my computer that is now running on
XP. The disk is simply shown to be empty and with no available space.
Is there any way I can get to these files because some of them are important?
Thanks

- Windows Vista >> Error 0x80070570 during backupI got the above error when trying to do a full backup of my disks to a
removable hard disk (about 1/2 full). [Running vista home 32 bit]. I'm
somewhat worried and confused by this.
Firstly, I have run scan disk/chkdsk on all the volumes being backed up and
on the target volume, and the target drive, and nothing is reported.
Secondly, I don't seem to be getting any errors on the files I do access.
Thirdly, the backup doesn't say what file it is having problems with - it
would be a help to know, as I might be able to get it off the previous full
backup.
The backup appears to have done something as there are 52 backup files and a
catalogue file, but I'm not sure how I could proceed from there.
Given the importance of a backup, it would be nice if
a) the backup ran to completion (OK, it might have done, but the error
message is telling me nothing about that)
b) It could tell me what file(s) it was having problems with.
Anyway, what can I do to proceed from here?

- Windows Vista >> Windows Vista Fast User SwitchingI have 3 people using my PC and all of them have their own accounts.
When you press WINKEY + L your session gets locked and your back at

possible to make vista act the same way?

- Windows Vista >> Weird robocopy results for users folder in VistaHello folks, I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on something
that I've seen going on since making the switch to Vista.
I use task scheduler to run a robocopy script (as administrator) which
under XP would synchronize the "my documents" folder to an external
server.
With the changes in Vista I am trying to synchronize the data now under
the "users" folder and I'm seeing some strange behavior.
When the "users\jmpage2" folder is copied it appears that for many
files/folders multiple copies are created due to the virtual folder
mapping of "my documents" within the "users\jmpage2" hierarchy. In
other words, not only do all of my pictures show up under
"users\jmpage2\pictures" they also wind up getting copied a second time
under "users\jmpage2\my documents\my pictures".
I've put in copy exclusions for some of these folders with the /xd
switch in robocopy but I'm hoping that there's a more elegant way of
doing this. I'm also noticing now under vista that many files now seem
to exist in multiple places, for example it appears as though my
outlook.pst file is in 3 different places!
Any help appreciated.

- Windows Vista >> How do I remove Vista from a partition? To make sure Vista would work with all my hardware and programs, I created a
second partition on my XP machine and installed Vista on there (Vista Home
Premium). All my hardware and my important programs worked so I thought I'd
bite the bullet and upgrade my XP installation on the first partition. That
also worked OK (apart from losing all my Music and Videos which I am
restoring from backup, at present) and I have used EasyBCD to remove the
entry for the copy of Vista on my second partition but I can't seem to delete
all the directories and files that are on there. It says I don't have
permission to many of them. I also keep Norton Ghost backups on that
partition so I don't really want to format it. As I am logged on as an
Administrator, why don't I have access to everything? What can I do to allow
myself to delete all the Windows files and directories?

- Windows Vista >> vista and 2 physical processorsOK, i have seen some posts on this group to the effect that vista
business and ultimate will support multi processors, but not home
premium.
i have a dual processor setup 2 athlon MP 1800's and 2 gigs RAM
i didn't know that home premium would not support it, so i bought
that.
i have just recently figured out that while you can see 2 processors
in the device manager, only one seems to be actually processing data.
so i am willing to upgrade to ultimate, providing it will actually see
the 2 processors and use them.
so i decided to call MS directly.
the first call was routed to a sales rep who read the EULA stating
that i could legally install the copy on a device with 1-2 processors.
that didn't help...
so i went back through and got transferred to a tech ... in india...
that assured me home premium should be able to see both, and they
would help me resolve the issue.
1. he tried updating the drivers, that didn't work
2. he tried adding the second processor through a regedit, by copying
the contents of the first folder... that didn't work either....
3. he tried uninstalling the processors
4. he tried telling me the reason the second processor wasn't showing
up was because it would show until the system needed it.. like under a
graphic intense situation... this despite the fact that the one
processor showing was pegged at 100% usage just opening the task
manager.
but it also happens that i do graphics, so i opened photoshop and
illustrator and the task manager, and still no second processor
5. he is now having me reinstall vista...
6. he is telling me if that doesn't work, that it isn't a windows
problem but some issue with the motherboard.. a setting... [it worked
great under XP pro by the way...]
i have repeatedly asked if home premium really supports the two
processors and he has repeatedly told me that he has checked and that
is not the issue.
I would gladly pay [well, maybe not gladly, but i'd do it ...] for the
upgrade to ultimate if it will utilize the second processor and so
speed up some things that are completely bogged down, BUT....
i don't want to bother paying for ultimate if it won't help.
so... will vista ultimate see and use the second processor?
should home premium see the second processor?
thanks for advice..

- Windows Vista >> Vista 64 Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool - False NegativeVista 64, Asus P5E v502 bios, Core 2 Quad, 4 gb crucial RAM, No over
clocking, standard ram speed,
I have been getting intermitent blue screen of death. Afterward my machine
warm boots, and often I receive Bad Bios CheckSum error. I power all the way
down and then power on and boot no problem.
I tried running the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool. It came up with a
problem, but didn't identify which stick. I pulled one and reran, everything
was OK. That was a bit of a cooincidence. I tried putting one of the other
chips in the slot the one I removed came from, still OK. I put all sticks
back and the diagnostic ran clean. I thougth I dodged a bullet. Sometime
reseating will fix these things.
I came home after work and sure enough Bad Bios Check Sum. I powered off
rebooted and ran the mem test and it diagnosed a problem.
Is this bad RAM, bad MB, or bad bios?

- Windows Vista >> Going back to Windows XP HomeOK. I had enough of Vista also. I want to go back to XP. I see that I can do
a clean install to put XP back into my system. But what about all my music,

I've had enough of Vista. I was using Vista home premium and I want to go

- Windows Vista >> Re: A little confusedconfused Mike says Do windows users regularly harass the linux news groups?
You do not see the harassing posts if you effectively learn to use your "kill file" feature in the news reader that you use. It should have one, use it.
Mike Hall "Malicious Various People" says No, they don't..
Correct, as he uses a kill file.
norm says Yes, they do. He does not use a file kill as he does not know how to use it.
This post was made using Vista with no special software or word processor.
It takes a while to learn to use. Learn to use the Tabs feature and use multiple windows that you can move from one to the other while you are working. In one window tab I am playing poker making money on line. All the sites offer free money.I have driven $500 to $7500 in three weeks all using Vista. The gaming software works on it. On one I have an on-line spell checker and one of the others I have the newsgroup reader in this case Go ogle and in one I have a on line Use net poster.
Vista is a new O/S and sure it has problems but it is the wave of the Future and will get better with age.It is better then XP as it has more security features.Read this newsgroup you will learn more. The so called harassing posts are just one or two trolls. Ignore.

- Windows Vista >> MS - Vista OfficeI was told to post my question here by another newsgroup.
I have several new users running Vista. They can access items on our local
server, AutoCAD, pdf's etc... but can only access word and excel items as
read only. They have full rights to the folders and files, and a few of the
files were orginially create by the same user in XP.
It says read only and cannot change anything on the docs, and excel sheets
without having to rename them first.

- Windows Vista >> U.S. military div switching to Mac..............well well, whaddayaknow...
http://vistasucks.wordpress.com/2007/12/26/us-army-were-switching-to-macs/
Wallington, a division chief in the Army's office of enterprise
information systems, says the military is quietly working to integrate
Macintosh computers into its systems to make them harder to hack.
That's because fewer attacks have been designed to infiltrate Mac
computers, and adding more Macs to the military's computer mix makes
it tougher to destabilize a group of military computers with a single
attack, Wallington says.
now you KNOW that if the U.S. military is considering switching to
macs M$ must be in trouble... this is truly music to my ears....
and I hope one day they get into SERIOUS trouble, financial and
otherwise (legal, for example), for the piece of crap they have
released to the world and made pass for a professionally-developed
OS.. which it definitely is NOT...
