same manner. My question is whether it is possible to redirect the whole
USER folder which is always on C: to D: so that all users profile
information is always. Redirecting all folders one by one and for each user

I try to print from anywhere except for the Office Word Programme, I have to
go into Printer Options and change from "envelope" to "paper" and from
"landscape" to "portrait." No matter how many times I do this and then press
Apply, I have to redo it the next time I need to print something. How can I
get it to stay on the paper and landscape sizes which is what I use most
often?

I'm manually installing Vista updates, since Windows Update will not update
properly giving me an error 80073715...
Problem is that every so often, 3 or 4 updates, the registry file gets
corrupted and windows will not start, having to get back to a backup copy.
Any ideas please?

March 1, 2008 (Computerworld) Everybody's talking today about "Drivergate" -
internal Microsoft e-mails that show senior Microsoft executives personally
struggling to use hardware products sporting the "Windows Vista Capable"
sticker. The e-mails also show that Microsoft lowered its standard for some
hardware compatibility, apparently to help Intel impress Wall Street.
This revelation is simply the latest in a long series that add up to one
inescapable conclusion: Windows Vista sucks. (And making it cheaper won't
help, either.)
Compatibility of drivers is just one issue. Another is a convoluted user
interface that prevents ordinary users from gaining a sense of control over
the OS.
Windows Mobile, Microsoft's operating system for cell phones, suffers from a
similar problem. The Windows Mobile OS isn't horrible per se, it's just that
it's completely wrong for cell phones and other small screen devices.
Windows Mobile clearly compromises usability to mimic the WIMP (Windows,
Icons, Menus and Pointing device) focus of Microsoft's desktop operating
systems. To quote Dr. Phil: How's that workin' for ya? It hasn't helped
eroding desktop Windows market share, and it hasn't helped Windows Mobile,
either.
The biggest problem isn't that the company's newest products are unusable,
but that Microsoft may have actually lost the "ability" to make good
operating systems. It may not be able to let go of its dogmatic insistence
on the flawed vision of the same Windows "experience" from wristwatches to
supercomputers.
And there is evidence that delusion or, at least, wishful thinking, prevails
at Microsoft. The company's founder and chairman, Bill Gates, said last week
that "Microsoft expects more Internet searches to be done through speech
than through typing on a keyboard." Hey, Bill: Do you want to bet $10
billion on that? I doubt even that Microsoft will fix its Vista driver
problem within five years. This is the same guy, by the way, who bragged
that Microsoft would "solve" spam by 2006.
It's imperative for Microsoft to get the next major OS right. The secret
lies in the company's Surface initiative.
Microsoft has never understood the importance of "simplicity," a fundamental
design concept it has always swept aside to make room for "feature rich"
(i.e., bloated and complex).
Right now, the Windows Vista type user interfaces are in their final days.
The future belongs to what I call the 3G user interface, which replaces flat
icons and folders with multitouch, gestures, physics and 3-D.
It's imperative for Microsoft to get the next major OS right. But how?
The secret lies in the company's Surface initiative. Sure, Surface is at
present a little more than a semishipping demo usable for product marketing.
The Surface demo dazzles with its 3G goodness. But what's impressive and
surprising is that somehow someone at Microsoft was allowed to create a user
interface unburdened by "compatibility" with two decades of spaghetti code.
What a concept! And no "Start" button!
Another hopeful sign is that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer appears to agree
that Surface is important - or, at least, urgent. He announced earlier this
month that Microsoft is accelerating the development of a consumer version.
Here's what I believe Microsoft needs to do to save its vitally important
operating systems business:
1.. Never compromise on driver compatibility, not even for Intel.
2.. Insist on the highest standards for compatibility stickers, then use
your marketing millions to drive customers to partners that have earned
those stickers. Drive the laggards, the cheaters and the inadequate vendors
out of business. They're poisoning your swimming pool.
3.. Make an operating system for each computer type - cell phone, UMPC,
consumer desktop, enterprise desktop, enterprise server, supercomputer -
optimized for that type, not as a dogmatic slave to the limitations of the
generic desktop Windows vision.
4.. Emphasize usability and simplicity over "feature rich" complexity. We
don't need more options, features, capabilities, applications, peripherals
and hardware vendors. We need better ones.
5.. Emphasize usability and simplicity over backward compatibility for the
consumer version of Windows. The 1990s are over. Don't sacrifice the future
for customers and partner companies that are living in the past.
6.. Throw everything they've got at getting the consumer version of
Surface right. Surface is the future of the company. And Apple won't wait
around. That company is aggressively patenting elements of the user
interface of the future, and you know they'll build and market it
successfully.
7.. Be afraid of Apple, Google and Asus. Apple is eating your desktop
marketshare because they succeed with simplicity and UI elegance. Google
might do so with its cell phone UI. And Asus, a two-bit Taiwanese
motherboard maker, was able to cobble together a quick-and-dirty UI for
Linux that's way better than Windows Vista for UMPCs.

7/10/07 that cannot install (937077, 935280, 933928, 936357). I now have 6
updates from 8/14/07 that will not install (938123, 936782, 936021, 935807,
933579, 937143).
I am running Vista Ultimate on a custom built PC ( Intel MB, Intel Dual Core
Processor). My Windows experience INdex is 5.3.
Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

- Windows Vista >> change to Welcome ScreenI am using Vista Business and would like to change the Welcome Screen so the
ICONS and user names are not shown. The user would have to enter user name
and password the same as they did under XP after you used the "Change the way
users log on" option. If this option still exists, I have been unable to
locate it.
System is NOT connected to any domain, simply a local log on.
Can I do this under Vista?

I connected my Mobile 5 PDA to the PC and WMDC installed as it detected my
mobile device however I am unable to get the Mobile device to be seen by WMDC
to create a partnership.
I had an issue originally in one of the SP1 RC packs I installed and was
advised to install the refresh when available as it resolved the problem, I
think it is back!
Anyone had nay similar issues and if so how did you get around it.
Windows Firewall is turned off and Bitdefender v11 is intsalled whch is same
as last time around.
Any help appreciated

on boot the graphical interface doesn't load leaving me just a black screen,
access to task manager works but nothing more. I already tried booting in
safe mode etc etc but nothing change, runnign tasks are:
csrss.exe
winlogon.exe
dwm.exe
PresentationSettings.exe
taskeng.exe
taskmgr.exe
I think where's some problem in winlogon.exe but i don't know how to restore
it without a new installation process.

I want to create a task that executes one time, let's say 2 minutes
from now, and after the task has completed, it deletes itself.
The problem is, it says that I need an expiration date to specify when
the task gets deleted. I have no idea how long my task will take, so
how can possible put an expiration date?!?
example:
Current time: 1:00 pm
Create a task to run at 1:02 pm
Task may take 20 to 30 minutes to run.
I want the task to delete itself immediately whether it took 20 or 30
minutes.
I don't want to put 1:40 pm as the expiration time, but I have no idea
how long it takes.
If I put it at a less time, like 1:10 pm, then the task deletes itself
before whatever job it had to do completed!
Please help!!! I've been struggling for hours on this.

it extremely frustrating, to say the least, that having upgraded the
GPU and increased the RAM that the scores have gone down rather than
up!
My PC scores were:
Processor: 4.2
Memory(RAM): 4.0
Graphics: 5.9
Gaming graphics: 5.8
Primary HD: 5.3
They are now:
Processor: 2.3
Memory(RAM): 1.7
Graphics: 2.9
Gaming graphics: 5.7
Primary HD: 5.3
Can anyone please explain what I can have done to Vista Ultimate that
would cause this change?
Changes I made were to change from a Nvidia 7600GS to a 7950GT and
from 1GB to 2GB of RAM
I am using the latest official Nvidia drivers and aero is working
great!

- Windows Vista >> Problem Setting Up Network Printer via XPI am a new, just created, VISTA user.
I have it installed on a test machine which is networked to a second
machine which is XP PRO SP2.
The networking is via a D-Link router.
I have two printers, one an EPSON R320, the other AN HP PSC950 AIO.
The EPSON is connected directly to the VISTA machine via USB.
The HP is connected directly to the XP machine via USB.
Each printer prints just fine from the machine to which it is
connected directly (USB).
I have networking set up on both machines in common WORKGROUP
'mshome'.
File sharing works just fine in BOTH directions.
I can print from the XP machine to the EPSON via the VISTA machine via
the network.
BUT I cannot print from the VISTA machine to the HP via the XP machine
via the network despite the fact that the test print seems to got
through the spooler's without a problem (the document disappears from
the queue as if normal.
Seems weird!
Can anyone suggest where I can look for wherein the problem lies?

- Windows Vista >> Problem reloading after hibernation/sleepMy computer will go into either sleep, hiberation, or stand-by mode (forgive
me as I do not know how to tell the actual differences between these modes -
if there are any). When it does this and I return, I will move the mouse to
take it out of its resting state. The monitor will register but it will say
that the monitor is not receiving any input from the computer (the message
that shows up with the red, blue, and green bar thing). So from there I turn
off the entire surge protector and the computer will make it all the way to
the screen that says something like "windows is reloading..." and there is
reloading progress meter at the bottom. Once there, it stops after a few
seconds and goes back to a black screen with a little white cursor blinking
and then complete blackness.
From here I am forced to shut it back off. This time however, it gives me
the option of deleting old previous restore information of my last session
and restarting entirely...which works, but obviously I'd like to be able to
restore my data when I leave my computer.
What is wrong and how do I fix it?
If you need to know any more information, please let me know. Also, this is
something new that just started happening within the past few days. I ran AVG
free but all it found was ntoskrnl was changed, but it found this way before
the problem started occurring.

provider.
Can I restore a VISTA Internet recognition file without a total
reinstall of VISTA?
Two other computers on the same router network work fine with XP and
Windows 2000.
I think Spybot SD deactivated a connection file ????

because some program is using it, but when I look on the task pannel there
are no programs running.
I already unchecked the indexing service of the stick (in it's Properties),
but that didn't help.

which automatically populates a message: "Your computer is infected with

When I click on this...it brings the red, grey, and white window as
described above.
Then same thing all over again.
My problem is, I do not know if this is legit or not; I have AVG and I ran
that, and
these messages continute to show up. There for I tried Ad-Adware (which I
hear mixed opinions about), and rogue remover --- none of these removed the
problem. I also ran my anti-virus system (CA)-which is always on. As a
result, I think this is some type of 'gimmick' attached to my computer
somehow.
