Vista networking with XP
Windows Vista21
I currently have 6 PCs networking with Windows XP in my office. However, one PC is needed to replace. If the new PC bought is with Windows Vista Home Edition, it is possible to be networking to the existing PCs with Windows XP ? - |

Re:Vista networking with XP
if you want Vista either the business or ultimate edition is better for
networking. You can go to dell and still order machines with xp home or pro. "yclhk" <yclhk@discussions.microsoft.com>wrote in message QuoteI currently have 6 PCs networking with Windows XP in my office. However, |

Re:Vista networking with XP
I Network XP Pro and Vista Home Premium via a Workgroup.
You need vista Business or ultimate for a Domain. technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx" >technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing. Permissions/Share info is there as well. If using Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro I.S., make sure file and printer sharing is enabled in THEIR firewall .(LAN allowed) 1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is the SAME. In Vista Network and Sharing: Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers) Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc) File Sharing: ON Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vistaâ??s Public Folder is the same as XPâ??s Shared Docs) Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames, and passwords (they can be different) on ALL computers in your Network). If you have it ON, you will be asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer from an XP computer, or a Vista Computer. Also, If you havenâ??t done so already, run XPâ??s Network Setup Wizard (in Start>All Programs>Accessories>Communications), and tell the Wizard to enable File and Printer Sharing. Or>Start>Control Panel>Network Connections>Set up a Home or Small Office Network. -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "yclhk" wrote: QuoteThanks BigJim, however, a HP PC loaded with Vista Home Edition was ordered, |

Re:Vista networking with XP
Yes, it works fine. But remember to give the Vista machine the same
workgroup name, otherwise you'll be scratching your head for hours! SteveT - |

Is the network a workgroup or a domain? If it's a workgroup, any version of Vista will work fine.
