Many of my folders are now shortcuts

Windows Vista29
Many of my folders are now shortcuts including "ALL USERS" " Default User"

etc, also now a lot of the subfolders in there (like application data,

favorites, etc) I am the only user and the administrator, and now it won't

allow me access, How can I fix this ? (and any Idea what caused this ?)

Re:Many of my folders are now shortcuts

As an admin you can share it if you wish. Rightclick one of the folders, say

c:\documents and settings', and Properties, sharing tab, advanced sharing

button.

This does not work, I have tried it, but as I click apply or OK, it tells me

there was an error and "access to this folder is denied"

Re:Many of my folders are now shortcuts

Wow, I am having the exact same problem. Been trying different things all

weekend and now found this thread. I too tried to restore from 2 weeks ago

but the restore said it was not successful. BUT, it's funny that this seems

to have happened to us and a few others around the same time, which makes me

think tha a windows update changed something? I have always clicked on

photos, or music from within my documents with never a problem, then all of a

sudded they are shortcuts and give me the access denied message as well!

I just noticed this last Thursday, but the wife says she noticed it around 2

weeks ago (mid feb??). Not sure what would have changed these to shortcuts, i

KNOW they were not shortcuts before. I will try and restore from a futher

point back later today.

Glad I found this though, i have read about 'junction points' etc, but this

was an over night kind of thing that happened to quite a few of us.

Re:Many of my folders are now shortcuts

Hi, Hope You get it worked out. I only picked 2 weeks as an arbitrary number,

It was before the updates and Just after an install of software that I know

everything was good. A Shorter time period may also work if 2 weeks won't

restore.

Isn't trying to restore and having it fail a pain ? Even with XP I had all

of my restore points no good. Now I REGULARLY manually do a restore. Every

once in a while if everything is OK, I delete all my old ones and start over

(so I don't use a huge amt of disk space)

Good luck finding one that works, I know trying to "SHARE" the folders was

NO good.
