Vista back to XP

Windows Vista8
I purchased a laptop with Vista pre-installed. It has been a very

frustrating process trying to learn Vista but I have stuck with it for the

moment. My problem is that other hardware manufacturers have not updated

drivers for older hardware but there were drivers for XP. Is it possible for

me to go back to XP without having to purchase a brand new copy of XP.

Only sensible answers please, I have read some of the bitching that is going

on.

Re:Vista back to XP

You can't roll back pre-installed vista, only with upgrades can you do that.

Some manufacturers, like Dell, are offering XP disks if you are not happy

with Vista, apparently.

The prob with that is, some of the new motherboards do not have XP Drivers

written for them; so you can't go back successfully to XP.

Why not stick with Vista; eventually drivers will become available for the

newer hardware.

Re:Vista back to XP

If there is a way, it will have to come from your laptop manufacture so

contact them and ask this question.

Re:Vista back to XP

I would not recommend going back to the old Windows XP

operating system. Your new laptop was likely certified for

Windows Vista and returning to Windows XP would entail

completely reformatting your hard drive and then installing

a "full version" of Windows XP. And your laptop manufacturer

may not offer Windows XP drivers for the laptop's internal

hardware so that it would be fully functional with Windows XP.

Re:Vista back to XP

I would strongly recommend going back to XP, the best Windows operating

system.

Your new laptop may be also certified for

Windows XP and continuing to useWindows Vista would entail

completely frustrating experience. Your laptop manufacturer

may offer Windows XP drivers for the laptop's internal

hardware so that it would be fully functional with Windows XP.

Use the Best, use XP.

Re:Vista back to XP

First - visit laptop manufacturer's website and download ALL necessary

XP drivers and Utils for your laptop.

Copy them to a CD or USB drive.

Next - boot laptop off XP CD and fully reformat/partition laptop hard drive.

(There may be a Vista 'restore' partition on your laptop's hard drive -

you can erase this)

Install XP

Add drivers and Utils where required

Fully update XP on-line

Enjoy

Re:Vista back to XP

When you go to your motherboard website, download the Sata driver for it.

(Usually can be found in a folder on your motherboard driver CD as well)

If you have a floppy drive copy it to that. If not copy the files to CD.

When you first run XP setup you will see at the bottom to press F6 to

install third party drivers etc. Hit F6. It will appear that nothing happens

but later in the install process you will be asked to insert your disk. If

you've got the right driver it installation should proceed OK. from there.

I'm not sure whether you can do this on Cd or USB, never tried it. I think

you'll need two CD drives as one will be occupied by your setup disk at the

time the files are required, but maybe that part of the setup runs in memory

and you can swap disks.
