inability to communicate with network either by Wi-Fi, ethernet card, or
Verizon Broadband wireless service. The message on the WiFi indicator says
Dependency service or group failed to start. The diagnosis utility says the
computer doesn't have a network card installed or configured. Everything was
working fine until all three stopped working. The Bluetooth module is still
working. Any help (and solutions) much appreciated.

- Windows Vista >> Startup RepairI have an OE Vista system that now is showing the dreaded blue screen, with
the Startup Repair activated, and it has been running over 4 hours and it is
still running, and it won't let me cancel. What am I supposed to do with it?
Will this run for more hours, or should I manually rebot the system. I have
no clue as to how this happened in the first place, because I was not in the
room when it happened.

- Windows Vista >> How do I do this (make a monitor driver?)?My question is this: I would like to have two displays (monitors) set
up like this:
I'll call them Monitor A and B. Monitor A has the middle of the
display, and Monitor B is divided into two halves, the left half being
the left part of the display (the part of the screen that's left of
Monitor A), the right part being the right part of the display(the
part of the screent that's right of Monitor A). To clarify: the two
monitors would look like this:
display sent to them would be oriented as 1 | 2 | 3 so 1 is left, 2
is center, and 3 is right.
Monitor A would show:
[ 2 ]
Monitor B would be divided in half, and show:
[1 | 3]
so the left part of the overall display would be next to the right
part of the overall display, and those two halves would be both put on
monitor B

- Windows Vista >> Constant problems with "Internet Explorer has stopped working..."I usually do not cross-post, and I already posted a similar message to
another group. Then I realized that this may be the newsgroup I should have
started with.
I am using a new computer (Dell 530, only about a month old) with Vista Home
Premium (full version, not OEM). Starting a few days ago, I have been
getting error messages that says, "Internet Explorer has stopped working
correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is
available." Then IE closes down. Of course, I have never received any such
"notice." This problem is growing worse and worse. Sometimes, I have to
"try" to open IE numerous times before the error message finally stops
intruding.
Has anyone found a solution? I did get a response on the other group which
said that it is likely than an an ActiveX control has been installed on the
machine that is not Vista compliant and it taking IE 7 down. If that is the
case, I don't remember doing it -- and I don't have any idea how to search
for ActiveX and/or delete it.
The problem of "IE has stopped working correctly..." problem surfaces as
soon as I open IE. I did not have the problem until a few days ago, and I
have not added any new programs. A google search showed many similar
reports for other programs, but they were reports of problems and not
solutions. The Microsoft knowledge base shows the issue being linked to
version 5.1.5.0 of StompSoft by Migo Digital Valut or an earlier version of
the program. It says that the issue may also occur if a third-party program
such as Reno or Spydawn is installed. I have not installed any of these
programs -- in fact, I have never heard of them. Nevertheless, I followed
the instructions in MS knowledge base to determine whether Digital Vault is
installed. The instructions were to start task manager, click on the
Application tab, click on New Task, and type cmd in the Create New Task
dialog box. When I then typed dir "Program Files" at the command prompt (as
directed), then pressed ENTER, *nothing* (no programs) appeared as output.
The instructions did not say where I should "be" when I entered this
command, so I tried it from both the desktop and when IE was running.
I have scheduled both AVG and Windows Defender to run every day. I also
manually turn on Ad-Aware 2007 and SpyBot S&D several times a week.
Help! This is a new problem but is a frequent problem, and I hope someone
can help diagnose and eliminate it. As it is, my new Vista machine is
rapidly becoming worthless.
Thanks, MaryL

- Windows Vista >> ARTCLE= If You Think SP1 Fixed Windows Vista, Think AgainI have been vindicated once more!
http://keznews.com/4189_If_You_Think_SP1_Fixed_Windows_Vista,_Think_Again
If you think that the first service pack for Windows Vista has managed to
fix what was broken with the latest Windows client, think again.
The same problems that were initially associated with the gold version of
Vista have survived and moved on as the legacy of SP1. At the end of its
first year of availability on the market, Vista had passed the 100 million
sold license milestone, and according to Steve Ballmer, Microsoft Chief
Executive Officer, present at MIX08 the past week, the platform is the
second most popular Windows operating system in the world, despite its long
line of problems.
"I'm not saying that there aren't things that customers choose to comment
on. Come on, the number one issue we've had customers have issues on were
application compatibility and driver compatibility. We made a very concrete
set of choices in order to enhance the security, Vista is a very secure
system. We've had very little issue of that kind. It's the most secure
client operating system out there. But we did have it we did make the choice
to kind of hurt compatibility and our customers have let us know that that
has been very painful," Ballmer stated.
Still, the promise was that with Windows Vista SP1, Microsoft would soften
all the rough edges of the operating system. But just like the gold version
of Vista, the RTM build of Vista SP1 experienced integration issues with
existent hardware drivers, a detail that led to the postponing of SP1's
general availability until mid-March.
"A couple of things have happened, a lot of the apps have now been upgraded
to be compatible, and the drivers have been upgraded. We've shipped our
first service pack, Service Pack 1, which allows us to factor in a lot of
the quality and other suggestions that people have made, and I think we're
starting to see more uptake now in the business market, and Vista continues
to sell quite strongly in the consumer market," Ballmer added.
But not only is Vista SP1 not resolving the driver incompatibility issues of
Vista, but it is introducing new ones. Microsoft warned on March 12, that in
certain scenarios, following the deployment of Vista SP1, end users might
experience sound problems.
The company enumerated the issues starting with the fact that: "no sound is
produced when you play audio files or run programs that have an audio
component. The speaker symbol next to the clock in the notification area may
display the following message: 'No Audio Output Device is installed.' The
Sound Controller in Device Manager displays a yellow exclamation point."
The glitch is entirely the fault of Vista SP1. What the service pack does is
to update system files upon installation and inbox device drivers are
refreshed in an effort to evolve device reliability. This is done via the
redeployment of device drivers at the very end of Vista SP1's installation.
But this specific step could fail and result in no new drivers being
installed.
Microsoft advices end users to first restart the Windows Vista SP1 machine,
then unplug and plug back in the speakers, as well as verifying the default
output device. If these steps fail, then users should check to see if the
audio device driver exists, and either perform an installation or an update.

- Windows Vista >> Vista Buisness Compatibility IssuesHello folks
Anybody know what's' up with Vista not being compatible with the following
two MS Programs:
Active Directory Users and Computers for Windows 2003 Server
Virtual PC 2004
I need both of these programs to run on my Vista system or it's useless to
me and I will be putting it aside and returning to my XP Pro HD in my Laptop
unil Vistia is actually ready for prime time.... ADUC completely bombs
after being installed, even after finding some newsgroup info that gives a
bunch of dll's that need registered again to make it function. Virtual PC
2004 comes up with a Warning this program has known compatibility issues with
Vista... Say what? I have not seen a newer vista ready version of either of
these two mission critical programs, have I missed something or did Microsoft
with its development of Vista?
Thanks folks

- Windows Vista >> LINUX causes brain injuryTraumatic brain injury (TBI), also called acquired brain injury or simply
head injury, occurs when a sudden trauma causes damage to the brain. TBI can
result when the user installs a LINUX based Operating System on his or her
computer. Objects soon appear to pierce the skull and brain tissue.
Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent
of the damage to the brain. A person with a mild TBI may remain conscious
or may experience a loss of consciousness for a few seconds or minutes.
Other symptoms of mild TBI include using Open Source software like
OpenOffice, GIMP,. Galeon, Mozilla, Bluefish, VI, or a host of other
applications.
Using versions of LINUX causes problems with memory, concentration,
attention, or thinking. A person with a moderate or severe TBI may show
these same symptoms, but may also have a headache that gets worse or does
not go away, repeated vomiting or nausea, convulsions or seizures, an
inability to awaken from sleep, dilation of one or both pupils of the eyes,
slurred speech, weakness or numbness in the extremities, loss of
coordination, and increased confusion, restlessness, or agitation.
Anyone with signs of TBI should remove LINUX from their machines right away.
Installing a Windows based solution should help stabilize an individual and
focus on preventing further injury.

- Windows Vista >> Computer Crashed-BSOD! Help!Hi...
I got my laptop in July. It's an HP Pavilion dv9429us running Vista
Premium w/2GB of RAM. Tonight while playing a game on Pogo it locked up. I
got a sound loop type thing (it sounded like a stuck record). I rebooted and
all was fine, went back and played the game for a bit and the same thing
happend again, only this time I also got a BSOD that said "a clock interrupt
was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time
interval". Can someone explain in plain English what this means and what,
if anything I need to fix? I haven't changed or installed anything new, I
always use it on a hard surface, and I don't use it for games (except for
Pogo). This has never happened before and the only thing new was the game I
was playing-it was one I hadn't played before. Help!
