- Windows Vista >> Vista does not go into the sleep mode after 1 hour.Hello,
For whatever reason Vista does not go into sleep mode when I set the
balanced mode in the power option screen. It does shut off the monitor in 15
min, but it does not go to sleep after the 1 hour, which is the setting. Is
there any way to see what prevents it to do so? It does not go to sleep even
if I do not have any program running (or running only Firefox or IE, for
example). It was not always so, but after some official windows update,
Vista changed behavior. Unfortunately I do not remember which update it was,
it was approximately 3-5 month ago, when it happened.
It does go to sleep mode through the sleep button in start menu.
Any idea what can I do?

when it was clicked the computer shut down. When I went to re-start the
computer it is just blank. Nothing is happening, even the mouse and keyboard

- Windows Vista >> System Restore: do restore points persist after a restore?I used System Restore to undo an application install only to find that all
restore points prior to the one I undid have disappeared. All that remains
is an "Undo: Restore Operation" and nothing before that.
Is this the normal or expected behaviour? I would have thought that restore
points prior to the one undone would remain.

- Windows Vista >> Voice recognitionI was wondering where the dictionary is located and if I can add words or
stop the "Double click" action word? I would like to change it to maybe
single click and try to tweak the dictionary. I really don't use it at this
point to dictate letters. I just want to use voice commands to turn on my
media player, turn off and things of that nature.
I met a guy in Iraq who had a womans voice speak back to him, when he told
the computer to turn off the womans voice said "computer is shutting down".
Is this possible with Vista or a different program and where would I find it?
Thanks,

- Windows Vista >> Will not sleep without clicking shutdownI was struggling to get the sleep mode to work with my
vista premium. I found this web site extremely useful in
getting things to work:
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/63567-power-options-
sleep-mode-problems.html.
I realized I had ACPI support for sleep and hybrid.
After making the suggested changes, if I select
Windows->shutdown it goes into the sleep->hybrid mode
with no difficulty (It is absolutely great especially
when I need to awaken the computer. It's ready to go in
20 seconds!)
Unfortunately, Vista will not go into sleep mode with
inactvity for 25 minutes (the requested time to sleep).
Any possible explanation for this, Gadgets maybe?

Microsoft release such trash. I just try to move or delete a file from a
folder, Windows says that is not possible (!) I press OK and all files on
that folder just desapear. I use search and the files are still there (even
if windows explorer do not show them). But if I try to open the file from
search window: file not found. The missing files cant be found at the trash
or any other place. Great!

When booting up my laptop with Windows Vista it doesnt boot up fully. It
looks like it is booting up normally, then when it comes to the screen where
you should logon, the shutting down screen appears. It doesnt actually shut
down, its just frozen on that screen.
If anyone has any ides or suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

- Windows Vista >> Annoying Price DiscrepancyYada yada what the market will bear 'n all that, but I do think it is
getting unfair.
The Canadian dollar is roughly par with the U.S. dollar and has been for
some time now. However, Amazon charges U.S. residents much much less than
Canadian residents for the very same product.
To be honest, I think it is time Canadian retailers, perhaps in conjunction
with Microsoft, lower the price of Windows for Canadian customers.

Windows Vista >> Vista x64 Lock up, after clean install
Hi,
I have just installed Vista x64 Ultimate on the following hardware:
Maxtor 6Y120M0 SATA disk.
Asus M2N32 - SLI Deluxe mboard
Corsair CM2X1024-6400 (DR2 400Mhz) Ram
AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+
MSI 8800GT Zilent
I have tried other hardisks, and all combinations of RAM in all slots, but
Vista still locks up after a seemingly random period of time. The lock ups
occur with a fresh install (with no other software installed), and sp1 has no
effect. The starnge thing is XP (both x64 and x32) work perfectly fine.
Where would I be able to get support for this bug (I have Vista x64 Ultimate
OEM).
Cheers

I used the Vista drivers off the mboard CD. I've tried with default vista
display drivers and also every version of nvidia forceware drivers... no luck.

That's your first mistake. Most drivers supplied with motherboards are
long out of date. Go to your Mobo manufacturers web site and download
the latest drivers, just be careful to download 64-bit vista drivers,
not the 32-bit.

More than likely, once you get the latest chipset drivers for your mobo,
then the latest nVidia drivers should work fine.

Since you have the SP1 installed, you can use the free support, if you do
not find a resolution for this problem.
Vista Service Pack 1, Unlimited installation and compatibility support is
available at no charge until March 18, 2009.

- Windows Vista >> Vista Business thinks it's a beta copyI bought a PC with Vista Home preinstalled. Needed Vista Business. I had to
format the drive to get it to install. Now, after working fine for 3 months,

- Windows Vista >> What's eating up the hard drive? This question is related to Window Vista system restore. I had used it
several times and after each system restore, I usually go and delete all my
previous restore points. I also go and delete all temp files in the
Window/Temp folder and in application data/local/Temp folder. I then used
system clean up to delete any memory errors and other junk files. Without
turning system restore back on, I notice my disk space is smaller after
around two system restores. Does anyone know what is eating up the hard drive?
It's easy to misunderstood this. Let say I have 2 gig in my hard drive.
Turning sytem restore on reduce my hard drive to 1.7 gig.
I used system restore once and after all the clean up, my hard drive is back
to the original 2 gig.
I use system restore again and perform the same maintenance, except instead
of being back to 2 gig, my hard drive is now 1.9 gig. This gradual reduction
happened after every two system restores. My question is what is eating up
that space?

takes a step back, namely:
1. Why would they remove all the useful buttons from Explorer like,

do you use more often? Yes you can use the keyboard but why take your
hand off the mouse if you dont have to. What happened to Customize

2. What the heck is the deal with Organize? You have the same
functions under Edit. Why cant they provide a button to make New
Folder ? That is the most needed feature in Explorer.
3. Why does my laptop simply shuts down without warning, no sound, no
popup nothing. Yes i changed the Low battery notification. Still no
avail.
4. Startup: totally blank screen ! Where is the progress bar?
5. Shutdown: totally blank screen ! Where is the progess bar?
6. What happened to Webcam application. How am I going to test/adjust

I hope all these are fixed in SP1. If not I am going back to good ol
