Windows Vista >> How to stop Vista laptop from beep? I have a new Vista laptop. I've got the sound switched off as much as I
can. START -> CONTROL PANEL -> SOUNDS, 'Sound' tab, Sound Scheme set to
"No Sounds", and checked list to make sure there were no sounds assigned.

Also muted the volume control in system tray.

But still, sometimes if I select something in a program, the laptop
makes the selection as expected and emits a loud "Beep!" as if to say
I've successfully selected an item, waking up everyone around me.

How do I shut this thing up so it doesn't make a loud "Beep"?

Windows Vista >> How to stop Vista laptop from beep? David,

I understand that if 'no sounds' is selected then the system speaker is used
for some alerts. (don't know that for sure just rumor).

I suggest you change back to 'windows default' and then mute the sound.
