- Windows Vista >> Unable to display thumbnails/icons of Photoshop filesIn XP, I was able to view thumbnail images of all my image files in a folder
using the "View => Thunbnails" option. Under Vista Home Premium edition, when
I choose "View => Large icons" option for the folder, I only get thumbnail
images of jpg and tif files; Photoshop files just show the Photoshop icon.
How can I display the Photoshop images as thumbnails?
Thanks for any help.

- Windows Vista >> Task manager is not respondingMy office recently bought 3 vista machines and as soon as we install Bentley
microstation task manger suddenly stops working. I know that is more likely
to be a Bently issue. But according to bentley it would not cause this issue.
Could anyone tell me why this vital function would just stop working.
thanks

Windows Vista( new to me thru a laptop purchase 8 weekes ago), as well as
other problems I have ongoing with access to websites for my work (forex
trading) and constant unwanted junk/spam email. I do have appropriate
security installed. I am appalled with the lack response to repeated info
requests thru my user id etc. and wonder if anyon out there really cares--if
not I will make some major changes

- Windows Vista >> Microsoft catches up to AppleThe current numbers being quoted is that Vista is on about 5% of desktops.
That is about the size of the Apple installed base.
Like Apple, Vista has no significant market share outside the U.S.
Like Apple, the Vista OS is not usable for most buisnesses (Apple because it
is Apple and Vista because it is not compatible with the custom data base
programs many businesses run on).
Like the Apple OS Vista does not stably scale across large networks.
Just as there is no rational basis to choose an Apple computer there is no
rational basis to choose a computer running Vista.
Microsoft has finally done it!

- Windows Vista >> No 3D anymore when switching between windowsI have Vista Home Premium and when I first used it the switch between windows
showed a cool 3D look. I must have changed something accidently because now
it is just a box with the logos inside of it. I lost that cool 3D look. What
did I do and how can I get it back?
Thanks.

Windows Vista >> How to stop Vista laptop from beep?
I have a new Vista laptop. I've got the sound switched off as much as I
can. START -> CONTROL PANEL -> SOUNDS, 'Sound' tab, Sound Scheme set to
"No Sounds", and checked list to make sure there were no sounds assigned.
Also muted the volume control in system tray.
But still, sometimes if I select something in a program, the laptop
makes the selection as expected and emits a loud "Beep!" as if to say
I've successfully selected an item, waking up everyone around me.
How do I shut this thing up so it doesn't make a loud "Beep"?

Windows Vista >> How to stop Vista laptop from beep?
David,
I understand that if 'no sounds' is selected then the system speaker is used
for some alerts. (don't know that for sure just rumor).
I suggest you change back to 'windows default' and then mute the sound.

- Windows Vista >> All this crap about driversI don't get it.
Is it common practise for people to buy new OS's and install them on
their existing computers and expect everything to work perfectly?
I wouldn't dream of doing that. I did what I imagined everyone else
would have done - use their existing PC up until it became so outdated
it would no longer run new software, then buy a brand new system with
the latest OS, latest software, latest hardware, then simply restore
from backups any old stuff that I still wanted from my last machine.
Is this not what people are doing? Are they getting their 4 or 5 year
old systems, installing Vista on it and then being surprised that it's
not powerful enough to run and it won't recognise their old hardware?
.... I don't get it.

- Windows Vista >> Physical Address Extension?I have a VPC program by Conexant that ran OK under XP, but won't start under
Vista. It says it cannot run with PAE (Physical Address Ectention) running,
and that I should turn it off. What exactly is PAE, and can it be turned
off? If it can be turned off, how do I do it?
Thanx,

- Windows Vista >> Study sees Microsoft brand in sharp declineMY COMMENT>
Of course I predicted all this the very moment I set my eyes on an early
beta of Vista. I knew this was very bad news for MS.
If vista was good, then it would have saved MS, but vista has been
Microsoft's worst product EVER (and Im not joking when I say that).
Companies don't go near it, any respected IT person would never tell a
business to install Vista...
Vista has been hated and kicked around all over the internet... the
blogosphere and videoshpere is full of vista jokes and bashes...
And now MS is without inspiration, windows7 seems too much like vista... and
that's a big problem.
They need some new brilliant minds and to open their ears to what people
really need, but is the time enough to change the course of things?
ARTICLE>
http://www.activewin.com/awin/comments.asp?HeadlineIndex=43229
Microsoft's brand power has been in sharp decline over the past four years,
an indication the company is losing credibility and mindshare with U.S.
business users, according to a recent study by market research firm
CoreBrand.According to the CoreBrand Power 100 2007 study , which polled
about 12,000 U.S. business decision-makers, Microsoft dropped from number 12
in the ranking of the most powerful U.S. company brands in 2004 to number 59
last year. In 1996, the company ranked number 1 in brand power among 1,200
top companies in about 50 industries, said James Gregory, CEO of CoreBrand.

- Windows Vista >> Duplicate entries in Recent ItemsGood Day,
I have duplicate items appearing in my Recent Items list. The duplicates
are confined to Microsoft Excel 2003, for example: x.xlr, x.xlr (2), x.xlr
(3), show up on the list. All other documents, opening in other programs, do
not appear as a duplicate items in the Recent Items list.
Any suggestions to correcting this? If I need to visit a different forum
for this issue, please let me know.
Thank you.
Thank you.

- Windows Vista >> Wallpaper issue, tried soln's posted hereWhen I booted my Vista Business laptop this morning the wallpaper had gone
black. I used to use a pic from my Pictures folder as my background. Now I
can no longer access picture files or thumbnails through the Desktop
Background applet in Control Panel. When I try to browse to the Pictures
folder it appears empty. When I mouse over the contents, I get blank
transparent boxes with the picture names, instead of thumbnails. If I try to
use a Windows background picture, the thumbnails there are pixellated generic
icons. The only background I can set is Solid Colour. I can change colours
but that's it. There's no error message when I try to change my wallpaper. My
user account is an Administrator (both domain and local) and I don't use
screen savers. I've already tried the following suggestions from this board
(rebooted after each step):
- Checked Group Policy settings, made sure all items under User
Configuration\Admin. templates\Desktop\Desktop are set to "not configured"
- Checked Ease of Use settings, backgrounds are NOT disabled
- Downloaded and "merged" the "wallpaper enable" reg file from Winhelp
- Downloaded/ran KB Hotfix 934008
- Tried steps in Vista Tutorial on disabling/enabling desktop changes,
including other links to reg hacks (none of which worked).
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,

this upgrade my son is no longer able to access the Itunes Store to download
music. I have tried changing every setting i can and the only fix to it is
to shut off the parental controls in Vista. As soon as this is done he can
get on the Itunes Store. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I prefer
to have some parental controls set up for him.

- Windows Vista >> Can start program from the desktop, but not from the start menuHi,
I have a game installed on Windows Vista Ultimate. I am able to start it
from an icon on the desktop, but not from the start menu or quick launch
toolbar. I have checked the properties for all three shortcuts and they
are similar. I have even dragged it from the start menu to the desktop
to make sure they are similar, but I am still only able to start the
game from the desktop. When I try from the start menu or quick launch I
get a cryptic (non English) error message.
Why would it matter where I start the program from when the properties
for the shortcut is exactly the same? I never had anything like this
happen on XP.

connect to it from work. I worked greart for a month. Now as of Monday I
cannot connect to my Vista machine. I had just installed updates to both

think of any other changes I have made to the machines.
