working there at this company..im thinking we are going to be going for five

years and longer updates..

i would of never thought a company would be so greedy..to fix the os..to

make you go out and buy new software..so you can get your dvd and cd to

spin..it stops it from working..it makes you go get new software or updated

soft ware, the companys had to comply.bill had them by the balls..

Oh good Lord. Guess what? if you go out and get an XP disk and

Talk to the various hardware/software manufacturers about updating them

I haven't had NEARLY the problems with the Vista migration as I did when

I upgraded to XP from Win98. On my main desktop and laptop I

"downgraded" to 2000 Professional, (still the most stable windows

offering to date IMHO and my all-time favorite). XP wasn't even close

to 2K Pro until SP2. Then it finally lived up to it's hype. I do like

XP very much and still use it on the family machine, but I also like

Vista. Yes, there are some problems with it that really need to be

worked on and fixed, especially in the wireless networking area (this

last update dealing with wifi stability didn't seem to help me much).

As for hardware/software compatibility, well I guess I have been lucky

in that respect. I've got a 2 year old HP all in one and 4 year old

Epson all in one running perfectly with updated drivers from the

respective manufacturers and have managed to find updated drivers for my

video/audio/wifi, etc... For the most part, my software has either had

Vista patches, or is compatible with Vista anyway, namely my GIS and CAD

software (not AutoCAD).

Are there things I miss about XP? Oh yes, the main one being the tasks

area in Windows Explorer. You know where you could click on a file and

to the left there was a list of things you could do such as Move to

folder, Copy to folder, Rename, etc... Yes, I realize you can

right-click, use keyboard shortcuts, use the Organize button... but none

of those are quite as convenient to me.

And could it be that the following quote has some significance in the

situation some now find themselves in?

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Seems that it can apply equally to ms/hardware providers, etc. who have

again fallen short of customer expectations and also the customer who

again accepts the shortfall by ms/hardware providers, etc. without a

whimper.

Neither have I had any problems with Vista. It also works first time

after installing from the DVD, just like XP. -And just like XP, getting

it to work properly requires the installation of drivers and updates-.

Get real wheelman! Get Real! In all my years, I've never heard such

utter rubbish as an operating system working flawlessly first time after

a fresh install from CD/DVD. Even the occasional slipstream

installations I've created in the past have required some form of

post-installation updating in order to function correctly.

Re:most asked questions about vista!!!

Problem is XP got good and basically became a standard it was too easy

and now there are alot of people who were on the boarder of

understandign the basics of xp whove changed to vista and are now

clueless

-you install win xp..it works.its a stand alone os,you dont even have

to go-

-for up dates..or fixes..they sold us an incomplete os..the whole

os,,is not-

-on that disk.thats why the one dvd..-

This is kinda my point, xp doesnt just work ever heard of service pack

1 & 2 and the million updates inbetween, the hardware that didnt come

with xp drivers. I must have done over 2/3 dozen installs of xp to fix

clogged registry files from various programs, viruses, bad windows

updates, corrupt hard drive/files/programs, hardware compatability

problems (bsod), XP didnt detect my hard drive sizes properly and Id

have to format them on another computer, has appauling

networking/sharing compatability, especially on xp home.

Those are just some of the problems Ive had with xp, I WANT WINDOWS

2000(without the ENDLESS bsod problems), or not!!

BTW most of those questions can be put down to

dzomlija makes a good point: Vista is like early XP. I myself am

doing a clean install on new hardware (a Core 2 duo, top of the line)

and using new programs. So far, so good. Aero is nice. Who cares if

it's a resource hog? I have more memory and a faster processor (3x

faster than before) which more than makes up for any resource issues.

Power on.

Advanced users are NEVER scared of updates.

Lol. Anyone who knows anything is scared of ANY update.

I don't let anyone update so much as a patch cable without change

control review. If I'm scared of that imagine how I feel about Vista...

I am a 60 year old Computer user who has had all of Microsoft Products and I

am a stockholder. We cannot use Vista at work and I listen to advanced users

who are scared to death the next update will kill their computer. Recently

several Dell machines factory installed with Vista stopped booting.

Not necessarily Vista's fault. My Dell desktop came with XP, and after

about a month it refused to boot. The problem looked like bad RAM at

first, but new RAM didn't help it. The problem turned out to be the

motherboard. They sent a tech out to replace the mobo, then it worked.

(He plugged the DVD drive into the wrong SATA connector, and I had to

figure out why the OS counldn't see the DVD drive, but that's another

story...). But it was a hardware problem, nothing to do with XP. I'd

suspect a hardware problem in your case, too.
