Tab key problem

Windows Vista33
I am having problems with my tab key. It worked fine for months, but now it

will not advance to the next space. The screen dims and the cursor

dissappears. Nothing else will happen. This happens in Word, Excel, and Quick

Books (I assume all programs). I know of nothing that could have caused this

change.

I have tryed rebooting and also switched keyboards - the problem continues.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Re:Tab key problem

Hi GHI,

A few suggestions. You have already tried another keyboard with the same

results, so that eliminates the possibility of your keyboard being faulty. I

would suspect that it could be a faulty or corrupt driver - download and

install the latest version for your keyboard. Another possibility is that you

have malware on your system and the trigger that activates it is the tab key.

Check using your anti-malware software and allow it to automatically correct

any issues it finds. Yet another possibility, which is unlikely but certainly

not impossible, is that your motherboard is starting to fail and you might

notice the same symptoms creeping in with other keys.

Re:Tab key problem

Switching keyboards did not necessarily change the keyboard driver. Click

Start orb/type:

devmgmt.msc

Rightclick the keyboard device, 'uninstall', then action menu 'scan for

hardware changes'

If no help, I would try the 'on-screen' keyboard, to see it that has the

error also. ('ease of access' in control panel)

Re:Tab key problem

Thanks for the help. Reinstalling the keyboard driver took care of the problem.

Thanks again!
