- Windows Vista >> Dual Boot Vista and Ubuntu LinuxThis question is for anyone that has sucessfully dual booted vista and
ubuntu linux.
Here's my scenario:
AMD Athlon64 3400+ (running overclocked at 2.6 Ghz)
1 GB PC3200
2 x 232.88 GB IDE Hard Drives
GeForce 7600GS 512 mb AGP
I have vista installed on the first hard drive along with my essential data.
i have the second hard drive partitioned into 212.88 GB and 20 GB
partitions. The 212.88 GB partition has my non-essential data and the 20 GB
partition is empty.
Here's what i want to know:
If i install ubuntu linux to the 20 GB partition, will GRUB overwrite the
vista bootloader and make unable to boot vista? or, will GRUB work in
conjuction with the vista bootloader, making it possible to boot both
OS's?(This is the result that i hope happens) and with that said, if the
result is the first of the two possibilities, how do i restore the vista
bootloader and make my system able to boot both operating systems?

- Windows Vista >> Credible alternatives to Windows Explorer?I give up waiting for Microsoft to fix all the problems with sluggish
performance of file operations in Vista using Windows Explorer so I am
looking for a credible alternative.
What are you using that you would recommend? It doesn't matter if it costs
a smallish amount of money - I just want a good, fast file manager with full
Vista integration and support.

- Windows Vista >> Add IE7 Search Providers to standard userI can't add a search provider to IE7 as a standard user (although I
can when logged on as an administrator or when using "Run as
administrator"). When I try, I get the following message:

This might have happened because:
- A required file could not be downloaded

- Windows Vista >> Windows Vista sp1 2 days After installHello I'm Mikro I Public Beta Tested and then bought Vista.
I was a bit Miffed. Microsoft released vista there were alot of issues
needing to Be addressed I thought. But Microsoft released vista any ways.
Finally all the continuing complants I had with Vista Are gone. On the 18th
of March I installed Vista sp1 and as of today after checking a few things
out. I'm Happy to say all My Issues were resolved Performance on a Middle of
the road computer fixed, Defrag skipping second hard drives Fixed and Many
other issues with different drivers and programs All fixed.
Hey It's about time Too.

Vista Home Premium with MS Natural Wireless Keyboard with Intellitype 6.1
all of a sudden my top keys stopped working My Docs, My Pics etc but I think
the Volume buttons worked so uninstalled Intellitype 6.1 and reinstalled 6.1
all worked well except the Volume buttons didn't work.
So uninstalled 6.1 installed 6.1 again still all buttons bar the Volume ones
work.
Now if when the computer has not completely booted up I press the Volume
buttons
they work but then the other top buttons don't very strange.
Computer is a Dell E520.
Any thoughts on how I might fix this?

I've downloaded said program to install it, and have started the
installation, but once it gets to the very end it fails and and uninstalls
itself.

file but unless I run the software as administrator, it seems to use a
cached version. The user I log in as is in the Domain Admins group too!!

- Windows Vista >> Office 2003 migration problemsI posted this item before, but have realized that the problem is probably
with my Registry.
I tried migrating my files using the Windows "Easy Transfer" Utility and
then my MS Office 2003 program using the Windows "Easy Transfer" Companion.
Needless to say, Office 2003 did not work and I reversed the program transfer.
Now, when I try to install Office 2003 from the installation disk, the
installation stops at the point where the installation source is listed as my
G: drive. This is an empty SD slot and cannot be changed.
After searching my registry in the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OFFICE\ section, I find numerous
entries that refer to the Path G:\Program Files\Microsoft\Office, etc,
I am reluctant to make changes to the registry at this point since there are
over 100 references. Any thoughts?

- Windows Vista >> Aero Theme will not stay set and so cannot turn on AeroI've just helped a friend install a new nVidia GeForce 7200 video card in his
PC to allow him to run his Tiger Woods Golf game and some games for his son.
His Windows Vista Index (or whatever it is called) has now increased from 2.3
to 3.0 (the lowest score was under Graphics, this has now increased to 3.2,
the Gaming Graphics score was 3.0 and has remained as that).
The games now play OK.
However the Aero experience won't work. When we follow the steps for the
settings for Colour (32 bit), refresh rate (greater than 10Hz) etc we get as
far as setting the theme from Windows Vista Basic to Windows Aero, hit Apply
then OK, but when we click the Appearance section to turn on transparency it
still comes up as the Themes dialogue box and the theme has been set back to
Windows Vista Basic.
Can anyone advise how we can get Aero to operate?

What are the impacts of running an application that is not signed? Will the
user get a warning message when they launch the application? If they get a
warning message will this message appear every time they launch the
application?

Run Visual Studio and create an application and run it and see what happens.
Does a warning message come up?
Do you have a copy of Vista to try this on?
I have never seen any warning message about an unsigned application.
I have run many applications and I don't think all of them are signed.
I know that some warning about unsigned drivers will show up on 64 bit
versions of Vista.

everything seemd to go OK. Just for the heck-of-it, I asked that one folder
be returned to it's default location & was denied access. I've also noticed
that the current location is called F:\username instead of F:\foldername. Any
ideas?

Now I am unable to undo this because the checkbox is grayed out. What must

My wife is having a problem with her Windows Explorer Closing.
Usually she will be moving folder contents, from one folder to another when
the message occurs, and windows explore closes.
It is frustrating to her, and I can't seem to get a clue as to why it happens,
or how to fix it.

I'm manually installing Vista updates, since Windows Update will not update
properly giving me an error 80073715...
Problem is that every so often, 3 or 4 updates, the registry file gets
corrupted and windows will not start, having to get back to a backup copy.
Any ideas please?
