- Windows Vista >> Screens always scroll to mouse pointerHi all,
In all Vista applications, how do I stop the screen automatically scrolling
towards the mouse pointer. This is really annoying, especially in Word 2007
when I'm typing and the screen jumps back (with the cursor) to where the
mouse pointer is hovering. It also hapens in IE7, it's like I'm constantly
fighting with the screen to keep it where it is when I'm reading a website! I
can't see anything in Mouse Options in the Control Panel to stop this. Help!!!

- Windows Vista >> Aero Glass effects on Taskbar and Start Menu...Is it possible to change the default (dark) black colour of the taskbar and
start menu without using a 3rd party application?
I just assumed that when you chose a colour and transparency effect that the
change would not just affect window borders.
I know the transparency affects TB and SM but if I choose any colour from
the selection TB and SM still remain a shade of black...
Have I missed something somewhere?

- Windows Vista >> Is this a dumb question? Before I empty the recycle bin of ~2GB of stuff from Windows\Temp, is
everything there (that's not actually in use!) genuinely superfluous? I

I'd sure like to get back that 2GB!

Both machines are Vista Home Premium.
Can someone advise how this is happenning please?

- Windows Vista >> Excessive CPU Loading Due to Windows ExplorerMy computer experiences frequent periods of 100 percent CPU loading caused
by explorer.exe. .This is with only one or two windows open.
I am running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, SP1 on a Presario SR 1750NX with 64-bit
processor 2.2 GHz on a 100 GB partition with 3.5GB of RAM and 200GB and
300GB hard drives with an upgraded video card. The computer runs Aero fine.
I am using NOD32 Antivirus. Running a registry cleaner sometimes produces a
short term reduction in CPU loading.
The condition has become worse over time. Anyone know how to fix.

- Windows Vista >> DVD ProblemsWindows explorer will no longer list files on data DVDS. When I place a DVD
in the drive explorer will read and display the disk label and indicate the
space used, space free, total size and file system. When I double click on
the drive instead of a list of files I am asked to prepare this disk. If I
right click on the drive and do a search of the DVD a list of files shows up
that I can open or copy.
I have not installed any new programs or hardware. The device manager tells
me the dvd drive is working properly. DVDs I burned containing JPGS can be
read using Windows media center and other programs such as Irfanview.
It seems the disks are good and readable and the drive is functioning
properly. Explorer simply will not give me a list of files. I am using
Vista Home Premium. All the drivers are up to date as well as security
updates and until recently everything was functioning properly I appreciate
any help in solving this.

- Windows Vista >> ARTCLE= If You Think SP1 Fixed Windows Vista, Think AgainI have been vindicated once more!
http://keznews.com/4189_If_You_Think_SP1_Fixed_Windows_Vista,_Think_Again
If you think that the first service pack for Windows Vista has managed to
fix what was broken with the latest Windows client, think again.
The same problems that were initially associated with the gold version of
Vista have survived and moved on as the legacy of SP1. At the end of its
first year of availability on the market, Vista had passed the 100 million
sold license milestone, and according to Steve Ballmer, Microsoft Chief
Executive Officer, present at MIX08 the past week, the platform is the
second most popular Windows operating system in the world, despite its long
line of problems.
"I'm not saying that there aren't things that customers choose to comment
on. Come on, the number one issue we've had customers have issues on were
application compatibility and driver compatibility. We made a very concrete
set of choices in order to enhance the security, Vista is a very secure
system. We've had very little issue of that kind. It's the most secure
client operating system out there. But we did have it we did make the choice
to kind of hurt compatibility and our customers have let us know that that
has been very painful," Ballmer stated.
Still, the promise was that with Windows Vista SP1, Microsoft would soften
all the rough edges of the operating system. But just like the gold version
of Vista, the RTM build of Vista SP1 experienced integration issues with
existent hardware drivers, a detail that led to the postponing of SP1's
general availability until mid-March.
"A couple of things have happened, a lot of the apps have now been upgraded
to be compatible, and the drivers have been upgraded. We've shipped our
first service pack, Service Pack 1, which allows us to factor in a lot of
the quality and other suggestions that people have made, and I think we're
starting to see more uptake now in the business market, and Vista continues
to sell quite strongly in the consumer market," Ballmer added.
But not only is Vista SP1 not resolving the driver incompatibility issues of
Vista, but it is introducing new ones. Microsoft warned on March 12, that in
certain scenarios, following the deployment of Vista SP1, end users might
experience sound problems.
The company enumerated the issues starting with the fact that: "no sound is
produced when you play audio files or run programs that have an audio
component. The speaker symbol next to the clock in the notification area may
display the following message: 'No Audio Output Device is installed.' The
Sound Controller in Device Manager displays a yellow exclamation point."
The glitch is entirely the fault of Vista SP1. What the service pack does is
to update system files upon installation and inbox device drivers are
refreshed in an effort to evolve device reliability. This is done via the
redeployment of device drivers at the very end of Vista SP1's installation.
But this specific step could fail and result in no new drivers being
installed.
Microsoft advices end users to first restart the Windows Vista SP1 machine,
then unplug and plug back in the speakers, as well as verifying the default
output device. If these steps fail, then users should check to see if the
audio device driver exists, and either perform an installation or an update.

- Windows Vista >> Squashed and Narrow Gif Thumbnails. My frustration knows no bounds with this issue. For some reason, my
thumbnail display for any gif file is narrowed and squished.
I've tried toying around with different display options, setting the
default viewing program to explorer, clearing the thumbnail cache that
vista stores (via the Disk Cleanup utility), and my searches on the web
have proved less than useful to remedy my problem.
Below is a screenshot of what's going on. Crushed thumbnails make it
harder to keep track of my gifs. :/

- Windows Vista >> How do I do this (make a monitor driver?)?My question is this: I would like to have two displays (monitors) set
up like this:
I'll call them Monitor A and B. Monitor A has the middle of the
display, and Monitor B is divided into two halves, the left half being
the left part of the display (the part of the screen that's left of
Monitor A), the right part being the right part of the display(the
part of the screent that's right of Monitor A). To clarify: the two
monitors would look like this:
display sent to them would be oriented as 1 | 2 | 3 so 1 is left, 2
is center, and 3 is right.
Monitor A would show:
[ 2 ]
Monitor B would be divided in half, and show:
[1 | 3]
so the left part of the overall display would be next to the right
part of the overall display, and those two halves would be both put on
monitor B

Anybody know what's' up with Vista not being compatible with the following

Virtual PC 2004
I need both of these programs to run on my Vista system or it's useless to

unil Vistia is actually ready for prime time.... ADUC completely bombs
after being installed, even after finding some newsgroup info that gives a
bunch of dll's that need registered again to make it function. Virtual PC
2004 comes up with a Warning this program has known compatibility issues with
Vista... Say what? I have not seen a newer vista ready version of either of
these two mission critical programs, have I missed something or did Microsoft
with its development of Vista?
Thanks folks

- Windows Vista >> Vista is always beeping at meEver since I bought my new computer with Vista installed (and even after
reinstalling Vista once), whenever I click my mouse on certain list items,
the computer beeps the Default Beep sound.
It happens with all sorts of random programs (I can't figure any rhyme or
reason to why it happens with some and not with others). It doesn't happen
on my desktop, in Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer - or any MS Office
programs, that I can recall. It doesn't happen on the main GUI of any
program, just on lists, such as sub-forms, that are populated with a row of
items to select from - and if I have to double-click on an item to open it, I
get a double beep!
This has been going on for months and it just drives me crazy. What is
going on here? And how do I stop it (aside from unassigning the Default
Beep, which could be detrimental regarding the events that I SHOULD be
notified of).
Anyone?
