Internet Explorer / IE >> Internet Explorer 7 Install problem
When trying to install IE7 I get the following errors for the ie7.log
5.789: IECUSTOM: Unwriteable key HKCR\mailto
5.809: IECUSTOM: Unwriteable key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\mailto
Using regedit, I tried to examine the value and permissions of this key
(mailto), I can do neither. I get Access is denied when I try to change the
permissions. Regedit informs me that I do not have persmission to view the
key, but I can change the permissions. When I try to change the
permissions(as Administrator) I get access is denied errors. It looks like
the kep has no permissions set for this key.
I do not know how this key's permissions got changed or how to fix it.
Can anyone help me?

Internet Explorer / IE >> Internet Explorer 7 Install problem
Hi,
I had this problem for ages with all the beta and RC versions of IE7
and it drove me insane, but i managed to fix it this morning.
I have more than one login on my machine, and they are all
administrators. I simply logged into one of the other logins and
checked the registry key from there. Was ok, but only had permissions
for that user. So I added the group ADMINISTRATORS to the permissions
with full access, then logged back into my login and Hey Presto!
Checked the key in regedit and it was fine, so I tried installing IE7
again and it worked fine.
Hope this helps!!!
Cheers
Simon

I have a similar setiup, multiple accounts that are all administrators.
Previously, I did try logging in as Administrator, but there were no
permissions on the key. I'll try one of the other accounts. Any clue as to
which of the others to use, first, last?
Anyway, I'll try the other accounts tonite, it's easy to login on various
accounts... Thanx for the suggestion.

Any clue as to how the key is getting into this state?

Internet Explorer / IE >> Internet Explorer 7 Install problem
to be honest i haven't got a clue. only thing i can think of is i did
one of the windows updates while logged into a different account rather
than the usual one.
as for which account to use i have no idea, guess i just got lucky and
picked the right one first :o)
don't log in as administrator (safe mode) though, i tried that and it
never worked. just try one of the other logins that you have
let me know how you get on with it
cheers
