Internet Explorer / IE >> Cannot open Word documents on internet sites
Sometime over the last several months I lost the ability to open a Word
document on any web page. A box with a red X is all that appears in the upper
left hand corner now. The Word docs do exist on the various web sites.
Problem existed before IE 7 upgrade.
Configuration:
Internet Explorer 7.0
Windows XP SP2
MS Office Standard Edition 2003 SP2
1. All applications have been kept current with updates.
2. MS Word fuctions normally otherwise.
3. Word documents in email can be opened OK.
4. File Type settings for Word DOC appear to be normal. (Open is default,
Open after dowload and browse in same window are selected).

The easiest thing to do would be go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs,
find Office, select "Change", select "Repair or Reinstall" and then "Detect
and Repair". If that doesn't get it, do this process again except choose to
"Reinstall" instead.
In either event, have your installation CD handy.
