How to change options to open video files

Internet Explorer68
I am using Windows Vista Premium and I used to getting a prompt (when I am on

internet trying to open a video file) asking me if I want to open the file

using a MP application or safe it in a harddrive location.

I sometimes open the files using WMP and sometimes save the files to my

desktop.

One day when I open a video file by choosing the option to open the file

using WMP and then I check the box that says open future files in the same

method, all future video files are automatically opened by WMP and I do not

get the prompt that give me the option to save the files to my desktop

anymore. How can I reset IE so that I can get back the promt to enable my

choosing how video file is opened ?

No it doesn't work. I choose 'ask me everytime' but video files are still

automatically opened by WMP without a promt for a selection of download to

desktop.

Re:How to change options to open video files

Hi,

The ability to reset the "Confirm open after download" in the GUI was

removed in Windows Vista(Only God and Microsoft know why). So once you've

removed the checkmark in the "Always ask before opening this type of file"

box for a given File Type, or in your case, checking the box "open future

files in the same method" there are only two ways that I'm aware of to

recover the OPEN||SAVE dialog box for that particular File Type again in

Windows Vista.

1. Reset all Security Zones to their Default level again-in which case you

would loose any custom settings that you have made.

Or

2. It can be done by hacking the Registry at the following Key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell

\AttachmentExecute\{0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

For a pictorial view on how to perform this procedure||hack you can visit

the following site:

www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/reset-opensave-choice-for-internet-explorer-downloads-in-vista/" >www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/reset-opensave-choice-for-internet-explorer-downloads-in-vista/

If you are uncomfortable working with the Registry Editor, there is a

downloadable registry hack at the bottom of the page at the above site that

will make the change for you.

Good luck,

Donald Anadell
