Internet Explorer / IE >> What programs would enable IE6 to have tabs?

Ever since I had to re-install XP Media Edition I have
had tabs in IE6. I don't like tabs and would like to
get rid of them.
I have posed this question before and gotten vague
answers to the effect that some other program is
probably causing them.
To the best of my knowledge I have nothing on my
computer now that I didn;t have before the re-install.
I don't have the MSN toolbar or MS anything else.
Any help would be greately appreciated. TIA.

Internet Explorer / IE >> What programs would enable IE6 to have tabs? This is kind of a funny way to (maybe) do what you want, but you could update
IE to IE7. In the settings for Tabs on the General tab of the Internet
Options dialog you can turn off tabbed browsing completely. Kind of the long
way around, but it would work. And IE7 is a safer browser than IE6. Just a
thought.

Thanks guys for your suggestions. Unfortunately, I
don't have MSN toolbar, Avant Browser or Maxthon on my
computer. Strangely enough, I did have AvantBrowser
before I re-installed XP but no tabs. Go figure.
I have tried IE7 but it slows down my computer
something fierce and haven't used it since the
re-install. Thanks for your efforts.

Are any third-party toolbars installed/listed in Tools | Manage Add-ons?

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe <= right-click on this file
| Properties | What version is displayed here?

IE Help | About: What version is displayed here (include any trailing
letters; e.g., 6.0.1234.5678XX)?

Is the machine still under warranty or Service Contract?

In answer to you questions:

I have an eBay toolbar. But it was installed long after
the tabs appeared.

From program files: IE Explorer version 6.0.2900.2180

From IE Explorer Help: Version
6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254

No, the machine is not under warranty or Service
Contract.

And thanks for your interest and your help.

YW. That's a real head-scratcher for sure. Assuming IE6 didn't have tabbed
browsing when you first got the machine and you didn't install any Add-ons
to add tabbed browsing, IE6 shouldn't have tabbed browsing after restoring
the machine to OOBE state using the Dell CDs even if IE7 had been installed
at the time.

One last question, purely out of curiosity: Does IE6 have tabbed browsing in
a new User Account?

Ok! I created a new account and had no tabs. I deleted
that account, did a restart, and went back to my
original account...no tabs. I don't know what it did,
but it got rid of them.
Thanks for all your help, it's greately appreciated.

YW, Walt. Interesting. Thanks for your feedback.
