Re:Frequent IE Crashes in IE6 & IE7

Hi jll1678,

Did your computer come with and IE Add-Ins installed? Google toolbar? If so

download and install the latest version. You can test to see if an add-in is

causing the problem by unselecting the "Enable third-party browser helpers"

on the Advanced tab of Internet options.

Also check that you have the latest Windows updates as it may have been some

time since the OEM windows installation was updated.

Regards.

Re:Frequent IE Crashes in IE6 & IE7

Rob,

Thanks so much for your prompt reply. I do not believe I had any

BHO's/Add-Ins- At one point I had Google Desktop, but I uninstalled it to try

to fix the IE problems, but it still crashed after I uninstalled the program.

I also just checked for Windows updates. I did need to update to .NET

Framework 2 (from 1.1). I also disabled 3rd party browser helpers (even

though I don't believe I had any installed). Is it possible that the update

to the .NET Framework 2 could have solved the issue?

Thanks again-

JLL

Re:Frequent IE Crashes in IE6 & IE7

Hi jll1678,

It could be. I really don't know as there is no dependencies between IE and

.NET although it is possible that an add-in may have dependencies for .NET.

I have a HP laptop that came with extra software (google toolbar) that was

out of date with windows updates applied to the machine. Pre-version 3.0...

did cause problems with IE.

The error message referring to Kernel32.dll indicates that something (an

add-in or perhaps something left over from the IE7 uninstall) is trying to

access the registry (I think probably to create and release 'threads'). The

Google desktop search may be the culpret here also as it uses threads to

work in the background. You could try re-installing the Google Desktop

search, it may be that the un-install did not completely remove everything.
