Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!!

I installed IE7 and my HPDirector wont open at all. I've went thru 3 days of
troubleshooting with HP and just found out about the conflict with Ie7! Now
I cant install any HP software without uninstalling 7 and going back to IE6,
then running special uninstall programs and reinstalling all the HP software,
updates, and then reprogramming everything. Maybe another days work!!!!!

How the hell Microsoft gives us these downloads without a warning page about
a KNOWN-FOR-MONTHS ISSUE prior to install is beyond OUTRAGEOUS WRECKLESSNESS
AND CARELESSNESS!!! UNFFFNBELIEVABLE BILL!!!! GO TO HELx!!!!!!!

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! Welcome to the club!

I posted the same complaint, and got a reply telling me hp support had given
him a link, which I pass on:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software7/COL11004/sj-32585-2/COL11004.exe.

BUT he said hp had told him it was for a different series of scanner and
when I saw the file was even bigger than the program itself(!), I gave up.
Didn't want to risk a waste of d/l time on a program that might not work on
my series of scanner.

A few minutes back HP India told me a patch making the h/w compatible with
IE7 was expected 'any day'.

I live in hope

P.S. I've had no trouble with my HP Deskjet--touch wood

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! HP were aware of the problems before the release of IE7 and failed to
respond within the time frame allowed.. not all HP products are affected,
btw.. my DeskJet 5150 and support programs work flawlessly..

Short of uninstalling IE7, one trick that works is to click on HP Director,
then press Alt + space.
Choose Minimize (you may have to click twice). HP Director will then appear
on the Task Bar.
Just click to Maximize. HP says they are working with MS to fix.

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! And if that trick works, see MVP Sandi's site for a script that automates
the process

http://msmvps.com/blogs/spywaresucks/archive/2006/10/22/197647.aspx

I don't understand why this HP issue is not at least mentioned in the
release notes. It has to affect a lot of people. And surely by now HP
should have informed all their support people of the conflict.

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! I discovered the hard way that my hp all in one printer might as well be in
the bin as it will not work with IE 7 as you all know. I tried the fix below
but still could not get the hp director to open. Maybe I did not wait long
enough but as I have had to go back to IE 6 to get the printer to work I will
wait and see if HP ever come up with a patch before I mess about any more. My
printer is only months old as well.
Am I wrong , but it seems to me that Hp could not cares less and I cannot
find a Microsoft phone number to ask if they are working on the problem .
Tell you what though, if in the end hp do not sort this out, that combined
with the fact that they do not even seem to care meand that I will never buy
an hp make of printer again.
It is even more annoying that IE7 is now being notified as an update to me
but there is no mention of the conflict with hp printers. Are there only
about 5 of us who have aproblem then?

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! Let's see. MS makes a new IE that they know for months that doesn't work
with HP, but it is HPs responsibility and fault???

How about MS get it working right in the first place before releasing it,
or, at least release IE with a KNOWN ISSUES WARNING LIST so we don't have to
spend a week fixing MS's new program that doesn't work!!!

It's called "passing the buck" and, unfortunately, Truman's dead.

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! The problem is that I've already uninstalled HP and cant load it back from my
CD, or any of the HP driver downloads anymore....it keeps saying a file is
missing when i try to connect my HP during install.

HP tech support says that I have to uninstall Ie7 and reinstall Ie6, then
run HP uninstall programs, and reinstall HP again!

MS has no free tech support phone number that I know of (not even to fix a
problem that they created with their new program)!!!!

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! One of HP India's suggestions to resolve my problem with HPDirector was to
reinstall WINXPSP2. When I did (and HP Director came to life!) I also found
that WINXPSP2 had uninstalled IE7 and reverted to IE6!

You might like to try that!

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! Thank you, but i have already gone back to IE6 and finally reinstalled HP.

I don't care what MVP Mike says above. Blaming HP does not cut it at all!!!
MS has a duty to not destroy my cpu programs, or at least warn me of the
known (for many months) problems! Isn't that what release notes are for???
I don't trust MS anymore and cant install IE7 again....I don't have 3 more
days of my life to give them! Maybe, if , and after MS gets it right and I
see proof of everyone saying a patch/new release is working with HP, I will
try again!!!

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! You're kidding right? IE7 was in beta for more than a year and a half -
plenty of time for HP to get their act into gear considering the problem was
discovered when Beta 2 was released and reported to HP way back then.

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! HP have traditionally been slow at releasing software updates for as long as
I can remember.. so much in fact that I dumped an expensive scanner of
theirs for a Canon product because they flatly refused to produce drivers
until such time as they were good and ready.. unfortunately, their printers
are still #1, and I feel obliged to use one..

If the world and his dog was controlled by the speed at which peripherals
manufacturers were prepared to release fixes, we would still be playing with
Windows 3.11 for Workgroups.. please note that even Microsoft are obliged to
wait until who knows quite when for the company that produces MS branded
hardware to write and release drivers..

Whether you like to hear it or not, MS is not the bad guy here..

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! I played around with IE 7 Beta 2 and 3, and knew that the HP Director would
not work with IE 7. I uninstalled and waited till IE went gold and
installed, thinking there would be a patch from HP soon. If I recall there
was discussion in here about HP and IE 7 months ago. I did goggle searches
and found the Alt-space workaround, I think it was originally in the HP
forums, it works great, just takes a second. I like IE 7.
I think most people misunderstand, if this is your hobby and you want to
continue with newer and safer and better it will cost you to upgrade, If
this is your business the cost of upgrading is part of doing business. I
had to get rid of hardware upgrading from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95, and
also, had to chunk my scanner and video cam upgrading to XP. Now the Vista
upgrade advisor mentions I may have to upgrade again. This is part of the
process, gosh I buy a new car every 3 to 4 years. If you can't afford to
upgrade that is cool, just keep your Packard Bell computer with your 14k
dial up modem in pristine condition with your reinstall floppy discs at the
ready. Just don't expect to download new applications and have them work
flawlessly or blame Microsoft for giving away free new software that does
not work with older software bundled with hardware that you paid for.
Personally I wouldn't buy a couch that does not fit through my front door
and blame the builder or the couch store because the door is too narrow. I
would measure the door before I bought the couch, i.e. research stuff
before you download it. If you need help that is one thing but, just to
complain and gripe is something entirely different. If you can find this
newsgroup to complain one could have found this newsgroup beforehand to
research.

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! The release date on this file is June 9, 2006 and it is for the 4800 series
scanners...........
so not sure if it is new, and or if it will work with other scanners, but,
still not worth the trouble and duplicated files. ALT-Space works....

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! We've always known that *some* builds work, and not others but there was not
much in the way of specifics until now.

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! I get it already, MS makes new programs, HP is slow to fix the problem
created by the NEW program MS created. But what you don't get is that MS
created and pushed out IE7 without it working with common HP printers and did
not warn me of the long known problem!!! MS's duty is to not create
problems, but if they can't help it, they need to at least warn us that it
will****UP MY CPU AND CAUSE DAYS OF WORK to fix it!

When they don't get it right, and don't warn me of known issues, then****
up my cpu, they LOSE CREDIBILITY of being a decent company....AS THEY HAVE
LOST CREDIBILITY HERE!!!

But, I know Mr MS MVP Mike, your still gonna say it is all HPs fault!!!
Deflect all responsibility instead of making it better next time. Is that
really MS's way of doing business??? Shameless!

Still waiting! Looking at Firefox and others too!

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! Here's a 'workaround' I got from HP India. Save it as "All files" in Notepad,
as 'hpdirector.js' on your desktop. It worked for me!
===========================
var WshShell = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell");

var dirfile="C:\\Program Files\\Hewlett-Packard\\Digital
Imaging\\bin\\Hpqdirec.exe";

var oExec = WshShell.Exec(dirfile);

WScript.Sleep(3000);

WshShell.SendKeys("%( )"); //equivalent of Alt+spacebar

WshShell.SendKeys("nn"); //equivalent of click minimize twice

oExec = WshShell.Exec(dirfile);

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! I have downloaded the new patch from HP and HP Director works fine with IE7.
When you go to HP site, you need to search for patch. HP does not make it
easy to find. My patch came through automatic update from HP.

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 and HP Director!!! I had problems with HP Director which I used with Scanjet 4570c after an HP
Sotware Update (not IE7). Finally HP gave me this advice and it worked!

Solution 2:
===========

Download the latest software i.e; HP Photosmart Premier 7.0, this
software is for HP Scanjet 4850 scanner, but it will work for your
scanner also. This software will update your HP Director to HP Solution
Centre and you can use your scanner from HP Solution Center.

Below I am providing the weblink to download the latest software ( HP
Photosmart Premier 7.0). Pleaser perform the steps as suggested below:

Without uninstall the scanner software, download and install HP
Photosmart Premier 7.0 from the weblink provided below:

http://www.hide-link.com/ ;cc=us&dlc=en&os=228&product=446435&lang=en&softwareitem=sj-31873-2

NOTE: Clicking the link may give an error indicating it is
invalid. If this occurs, copy the portion of the address
on the remaining line(s) and paste it at the end of the
address showing in your browser until the complete address
is displayed in the Address box.

To simplify your efforts, I suggest you perform the steps provided below
in a sequence:

Step 2 - Save the "COL10861.exe" file to your Hard Drive:

1. From the download page, click Download Now. A File Download window
will open.
2. Select Save this program to disk. A Save as window will open.
3. In the Save In: box, select a location in which to save the file. The
file will automatically name itself "COL10861.exe". It is best to accept
the default name.

NOTE: Many of the full HP Scanning software program downloads are
very large and will take some time to download.

Step 3 - Extract and Install the downloaded scanning software for your
4850 scanner:

1. To extract and install the software, browse to the downloaded file
and double-click the "COL10861.exe" that was downloaded. A
Self-Extractor window will open.
2. Click Unzip. The files are then extracted and the setup program is
automatically started.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the HP scanning
software.

By, install the HP Photosmart Premier 7.0 scanner software HP Director
will be updated to HP Solution Center. However, this is an alternater
solution, but I am sure that you will be satified with the HP Solution
Center features, as this the latest scanning software.

best wishes

>> When are Microsoft and HP going to fix this problem? This is not right. It shouldn't taken that long to get a software fix. My printer is HP Photosmart 2610 and it also has a problem with IE7 and the HPDirector.

If you don't like Internet Explorer 7, and want to go back to IE6,
go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
Find Windows Internet Explorer 7, highlight it, and click "Remove".
That will take you back to IE6. The roll-back process worked
for me, for which I am grateful to Microsoft.

Have you gone to the HP Web site and looked for updates? HP has known for
months that their programs had trouble with IE7.
