I have set IE7 to ask me every time a site wants to set a cookie on my

computer (running Windows XP SP 2): it doesn't work on one machine (it does

on another one), cookies are automatically recorded in the Temporary Internet

Files directory.



Would anyone know what could be the reason, and how to make it work other

than move to Firefox?

Could be your security software is interfering, since viruses and other

malicious software like to plant cookies.



Nobody here cares if you switch to Firefox. We're just a group of your

peers trying to help each other with questions about Internet Explorer.

At any rate, I found out how to override this by personalising the detection

of the Intranet in the Security tab and uncheck "Include all sites that

bypass the proxy server". This made IE7 start ask me again whether I wanted

to record cookies or not as I wanted. I don't understand why this works, as

we don't have a proxy, and IE7 is not configured to look at a proxy. Also, on

my home computer, this privacy feature of IE7 works fine (without having to

personalize).



I was merely indicating what alternative I had if I couldn't fix it. Thanks

for being the spokesperson for everyone here, as well as for your helpful

technical advice.
