Internet Explorer / IE >> IE 7 script error with yahoo messenger and microsoft update Hi bpk,
The 'invalid character' error message is a typical script error when
external scripts (scripts that come from another site other than the one you
are visiting) are blocked by a firewall product (Nortons? Productivity
control) or by the HOSTS file. Usually they are blocking advertising or
'click' tracking, so you can ignore it.

You can switch off the scripting error messages on Tools>Internet Options -
Advanced tab - uncheck "Display notification about every script error"

Regards.

I doubt that this URL is sufficient to let us see the problem.
A common cause of a similar symptom (problems showing .swf files)
is running with LocalMachine_LockDown off.

E.g. in Options, Advanced tab, Security section _uncheck_

Allow active content to run on files in My Computer*

(in Options, Advanced tab, Security section)

Note that the asterisk means that a restart of IExplore.exe is required
before any testing of the new setting will be valid.

FWIW that's what I have and what I need in order to do things such as play .SWF files, etc.

I can reproduce that using the IE Developer Toolbar and its Disable: All CSS
command.

Are you using a custom overriding CSS? E.g. using the Accessibility dialog?
