IE7, XPPro, Virtual PC and https:// crash

Internet Explorer91
I repeatably (and always) get a crash using IE7 under XP Pro in a virtual PC

if I navigate manually to a https address, e.g.:

https://mail.yahoo.com

Interestingly, if I go to the http version of the above and get redirected

to the https it all works good.

Has anyone got this to work? We're attempting to use virtual PC to test a

web app (not the above example!) against a number of browser / os

combinations so this is a slight problem!

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 7.0.5730.11 ModName: mshtml.dll

Here's what I get with ie7/XP-Pro - desktop.

Re:IE7, XPPro, Virtual PC and https:// crash

I don't think the invalid certificate is relevent.

I just tried:

https://login.yahoo.com

(which has a valid certificate) and got the same result (crash)

Re:IE7, XPPro, Virtual PC and https:// crash

Okay, I have no problem with that one. I do not have any add-on tool bars.

Just FYI...

Re:IE7, XPPro, Virtual PC and https:// crash

OK: I solved my own problem in the end.

The scenario that crashes (reliably) is the following:

->Install a virgin Windows XP with SP2 with no further updates applied

->Install IE7 by downloading 'IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe' from microsoft

Bingo: IE7 crashes for https sites

The following scenario works OK:

->Install Windows XP with SP2

->Use windows update to update everything microsoft reccommend, including

IE7

Bingo: IE7 works Ok for https sites.

So seems that either IE7 is not happy wirth a virgin XPPro+SP2 install, or

there is a problem with installing IE7 by downloading rather than windows

update.

I'm not able to try this outside virtual PC as I cannot roll a real PC back

to a virgin XP install - so I'm not sure if this only happens in virtual PC

or not. I would suspect that it is a global problem, though.
