Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 frequently unresponsive
Ever since I've been using IE7, I have had frequent problems with the browser
freezing up for 10 or 15 seconds at a time. It's very annoying. I turned off
the phishing filter a while back, but this problem is not related. It often
happens when I drag the scroll bar. Suddenly the browser will lock up in mid
drag.

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 frequently unresponsive
Yes I'm running Windows XP with all the latest updates. This happens more at
work, but it also happens on my computer at home. It's not a crash, it's just
a freeze of about 10 to 15 seconds. The menu goes dead, and if I try to close
it I get the dialog box telling me that I'm closing an unresponsive program.
I wonder if there's a way to prevent this.

1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode?
To start IE7 in No Add-ons mode:
Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or
Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No
add-ons).

I'll try it, but you can't do much without the add-ons. You can't even use
this message board without em. I'll browse for a while and see if it still
happens.

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 frequently unresponsive
I have the exact same problem, and decided to append my observations to an
existing thread.
I have XP Pro, SP2, completely updated, IE7.0 5730.11 2, 2.0Gb RAM, 2.8 Ghz
hyperthreading
When my IE7 freezes, my Google Desktop real time system monitor shows that
the CPU is being used 100%, or at least the bar goes all the way to the
right. When the bar goes back to showing only partial use of the CPU, the
IE7 has unfrozen. So--is the CPU usage just a marker or symptom, or is it
the problem?
Perhaps this doesn't happen in "no add ons" mode, but I am not about to run
it in that mode. I have disabled a number of add ons that I don't need, but
this hasn't helped. Maybe I haven't disabled the right ones. And I don't
know how to uninstall an IE add-on--only how to disable it.
When I use Firefox, it never freezes--is that because it doesn't have all
the same add-ons? It does have the Java add-on, though, and I would think
that is a prime candidate for freezing a program.
My sense of this is that no one really knows exactly what is going on with
the IE7 freeze problem. I hope someone here will prove me wrong.

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 frequently unresponsive
Try uninstalling Google Desktop, rebooting & installing the latest version
of Google Desktop, Ken.
If you start IE in No Add-ons mode and everything's OK, you can then
troubleshoot by adding one Add-on at a time back until you've found the
troublemaker.

I'm having the same problem as well. All add-ons disabled, have
removed/re-installed IE7. Done multiple scans with multiple spy/adware
programs.

Does the problem persist if you uninstall IE7 and don't reinstall it (i.e.,
roll back to IE6)?

Internet Explorer / IE >> IE7 frequently unresponsive
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of Google Desktop. IE7
doesn´t seem to be**** up as much, but I´ll give it another couple days
to be sure.

Disabling, as distinct from turning off, the Phishing Filter seems to help.
Suggestion originally posted by Jawwad, 11/1/2006.
Could be some problem with my IE7 install too, because my Add/Remove list
reckons it hasn't been used since March.
