Internet Explorer / IE >> OE not opening links after IE7 install

Ok folks, I tried the new IE7, and now OE wont open links. Same goes for
links in Hotmail while in IE7....Niether will MSN Messenger. When I click
on the 'email' icon on Messenger, I get 2 windows opening, both are the OLD
IE6! One is blank, the other is working and prompting me to sign in. When
I click HELP and about IE, it tells me it's version 7.0!!!!! But clearly
it's IE6!!
I have tried all the tips and tricks on here....every single one. No luck.
I can unistall IE7, but can't re-install IE6, it says I have alreasy a
newer version installed. I edited the registry to allow the reinstall of IE6
but that didn't work. Now I have had to put IE7 back on, so I can get OE
back!!
I have switched between Firefox and IE7 as my default browsers, no avail.

Prior to all this life was ducky. Firefox was my default browser, and
links opened up in it perfectly. Only glitch was clicking Messenger's
check 'email' box and IE6 would open...aparently there was no fix for this.
I only did this to report junk emails....otherwise I had no use for IE6.

Why hasn't this issue been solved? I searched back through 8 days of post
(13 pages worth) and found many topics on this. Of which I had already
tried ALL solutions.

Any help is appreciated. BTW..same symptons on my Uncle PC too. I
downloaded IE7 to get OE, as he only had Outlook.

Thanks

Uh-oh, you may have just shot yourself in the foot. After uninstalling IE7
B2 properly and rebooting *twice*, you should be returned to IE6 SP1. See
http://msmvps.com/blogs/spywaresucks/archive/2006/03/21/87123.aspx

Some software (for example CCleaner) deletes uninstaller directories such as
$NtUninstallie7bet2$ (or $NtUninstallie7bet2p$, for IE& Beta2 Preview). If
the $NtUninstallie7bet2$ folder is empty, or has been deleted completely,
whether by third party software or manually to preserve disk space, you will
*not* be able to remove the Beta 2 Preview via Add/Remove Programs or the
commandline. If running System Restore does not resolve the situation for
you, then your only choice is to stay with the Preview, or format your PC
and install Windows anew. You will not be able to install any future builds
of IE7 while Beta 2 Preview is installed, nor will you be able to run a
Repair Install of XP.

Internet Explorer / IE >> OE not opening links after IE7 install Good Post! This is a major issue and no one at microsoft live is aparently
working on a fix. Also it takes refressing tabs at least 3 times to go to a
new web page...what ever is causing this came on when I enstalled IE7.....so
I downloaded mozilla firefox and it did the same thing. so it must be
something in the TCP/IP stack for the webpage thing.....who knows what is
stopping OE and Outlook from going to links in messages.

Internet Explorer / IE >> OE not opening links after IE7 install After reading some other links in the newsgroups, I have come to the
conclusion that MS doesn't want us setting OTHER browsers as the default
browsers. (even though setting IE7 as default doesn't help!). It is THEIR
programs, so why make them compatible? I think this is maybe an issue that
FIREFOX should address!!! I am headed there now.....

Internet Explorer / IE >> OE not opening links after IE7 install I've had the same problem - my default browser was Firefox but I solved it by
changing my default browser to IE7: Start - Set
> program access and default - Custom - set the defaults to IE and OE.
It is certainly suspicious that OE seems to work with IE7 but not Firefox

Internet Explorer / IE >> OE not opening links after IE7 install Hi Jonathon and all.
Yep, I too wasted hours and hours over several days on this one.
The answer is delete IE 7, and hey presto, back come your links.
I DIDN'T EVEN WANT OR ASK FOR IE7, and when I called Microsoft on their
expensive phone line they didn't want to know.
Dell of course were bl**dy useless.
When will Microsoft actually take some interest in their customers well
being??
I heartily recommend steering clear of IE7.

Does anyone have expereience of going over to Thunderbird? Is it possible to
transfer all your OE settings without having to enter all your e-mail ISP
info from scratch.
Best of luck to all of you struggling with your links - delete ythe ****.

THANKS VERY MUCH TO ALL CONTRIBUTORS TO THIS QUERY - I WAS ABOUT TO THROW MY
PC, AND GO BACK TO A SLATE AND CHALK!!
