I have developed a tool in C#/.NET and built the release .EXE of that tool. I woluld like to build an MSI install of the tool.

How can I do that from within the Visual Studio.NET IDE

Thanks

You could use any third party tool that builds MSI files, depending on the requirements of your setup:

including Visual Studio's Setup&Deployment project.

I tried to install Visual Studio installer but I was unable to.as the set up is looking for a bundle of pre-requisites like Visual Basic 6.0 Visual C++,Visual Inter Dev 6.0 etc.

All I have Installed on my m/c is Visual Studio.NET 2003

Is there an easier to build an MSI file. I need to let the user create a couple of subdirectories as part of the set up. Is this possible through an MSI install

Thanks

Visual Studio 2003 has setup&depoloyment projects, take a look at that.

Ok..i tried to build the MSI file by adding a setup and deployment project in Visual Studio 2003.NET

But when I try to build the solution I get the following error,

An error occurred while validating.  HRESULT = '80040155'

Could you tell me how I can fix this error

Would you recommend that I try this

I am not sure which version of Installshield I uninstalled. Besides I don't want to mess with the registry.

Thanks

I'd apply that reg file - it's going to restore what should already be there anyway.
