Audigy 2 in 6 speaker mode (5.1) - no audio on right rear speaker

Media Player34
I just got the Klipsch 5.1 ProMedia speaker set for my Gateway FMC-901X.

However, whenever I run DVDs in 5.1 mode (LOTR- Two Towers or Matrix), I get

no sound out of the right rear speaker. It is not the Klipsch or the cables

because if I swap front with rear speakers (at the Klipsch subwoofer/amp)

then I get no sound out of the front right. In fact, it is not even the

connection to the Audigy sound card because if I run in 2 Speaker stereo

mode I get sound out of all the speakers. Any ideas what coud be wrong?

Perhaps a defective Audigy Card?

It could be. I have sound out of all 5 (6) here so it isn't an issue

with the driver/card design. It might warrant a call to Gateway to see

if there is anything you can do before having the card replaced.

It turns out the card isn't bad. I installed the Audigy 2 Speaker

Calibration program and it plays 5.1 just fine. In fact, if I run WinDVD 4

by itself it plays my DVDs with 5.1 surround just fine. Even better, it

remembers the 5.1 speaker setting. However, whenever I play a DVD from MCE,

first I always have to reselect 5.1 surround on the "iviaudio" non-MCE app

(which is very annoying) and second, the surround sound is messed up.

So I downloaded the WinDVD 5 trial and now the 5.1 surround works correctly

from the MCE UI. However, I still have to select 5.1 surround (it keeps

defaulting to 2 channel stereo) every time I watch a DVD with the MCE UI.

Glad it isn't a defective card.

Call Gateway and tell them you need the WinDVD Surround Sound

compatible version - 4.0.11.235.

I am not sure what is going on with your system that is causing it to

revert to stereo.

Ed,

How big is the set of files on the DVD Audio CD? Is it small enough to zip

up into an email? Hint, hint. :-)
