Avis refuse to play in Windows Media Player 9 and Bsplayer!

Media Player59
Hi, I have to ask some of the experts in this group how to get avis to

play in WMP9 or Bsplayer. All over the Net the avis I download will not

play correctly in either video player. First, one quick question..why

is everyone making avi files if they don't want to perform in basic

video players? Now, I have all the codecs and fffdshow for my Windows

98SE machine, so please don't go there.

What can I do to get avi files to play correctly and in sync using

WMP9? I have been counseled by other computer wizards and we can't seem

to find the elusive answer. Something is blocking my playing of these

videos, only avis though, so that narrows it down. Is there some player

that willl correctly handle these files? By the way, VLC didn't at all,

and Bsplayer used to, now no video. Anyway, I would really appreciate

your assistance in viewing avi files either via WMP9, or another

recommended video player, gratefully, psongman

Re:Avis refuse to play in Windows Media Player 9 and Bsplayer!

Hi, I tried that player, doesn't work. It seems to be avis only that

are causing the problem. In fact all other video files play

wonderfully. Believe me, I am not the only one...I have heard a lot of

people are experiencing the same snafu. The loading and viewing of the

avis does not occur in the same manner as other video files. They are

usually out of sync and a bit jittery, too. I do have an older

computer, if that is the problem then why do they encode the videos in

avi form. Well, I thought I would put the problem before you and hope

you could render me a solution. Appreciate your input, psongman

You are one of the few that reports not being able to play AVIs with DivX -

that is the usual solution around here.

How are they failing and what codec do they use? If it's for a variety of

codecs, the reason for failur eis key. Do they play back correctly locally?

There's 800+ codecs and it's actually technically impossible to have them

all. =)

Re:Avis refuse to play in Windows Media Player 9 and Bsplayer!

I would suspect that that is simply because most people don't actually

follow up to their posts. DivX can handle DivX files, but there's over 800

other codecs - suggesting DivX is typically simply side-stepping the

question, sadly. I would imagine that there' often good/specific data that

could be gleaned from these people - for example, if a site does use Codec

X, why not include a mention that they use Codec X and offer the user a link

to the download? =)
