No DVD Sound, Vista 11

Media Player14
I have an HP compaq windows vista laptop and windows media player 11- which

came with it. When I try to play a DVD it doesn't play sound- shows the movie

very great, but no sound. The same DVD will play with sound, (but in jumpy

quality) in HP's "DVD Play" program. I'd rather it play in Windows media

player because of greater show quality that isn't jumpy, but I don't know how

to get the sound to work in windows media player. Do you have any idea how to

fix this? Thanks.

Hi Hunter,

Do you get audio when you play other content in WMP?

Re:No DVD Sound, Vista 11

I am having the very same problem with my new Presario 557. Audio CDs play

fine. All the speaker volumes are up full but no sound. My Compaq player is

just as bad. A 6/8 post suggests the need for a Dolby decoder AC3. Might

this work and where' the best place to get it?

Re:No DVD Sound, Vista 11

I have now found in answer to our problem that HP/Compaq didn't know or see

fit to include the appropriate decoder for DVD playback. I purchased one of

the decoders you'll find shown on the Windows media player area. My Media

Player is now working just fine.

Thanks everyone for your help. I found on another post the answer to my

problem- you need an AC3 filter- a free download on one of the posts. You

can't just get one from anywhere, as I found twice that doesn't work. The

right one is here:

ac3filter.net/index.php >ac3filter.net/index.php

It doesn't cost anything. Thanks again everyone.
