XP Pro vs MCE Keys
Media Player39
Since MCE is built on XP, are the keys interchangable? I have an XP Pro system that I would like to change to an MCE system to match my other computer that is already running MCE. I would rather not have to buy a second copy of the software if my valid XP Pro key would work. - |

In order to install MCE or Tablet, you need to have an MCE or Tablet key and the MCE/Tablet media. If you install using the MCE/Tablet media and a Pro key, you get Pro. Not to mention, what you are suggesting is in fact considered software piracy. - |

Re:XP Pro vs MCE Keys
The XP Pro key will not work with MCE.

Re:XP Pro vs MCE Keys
I really didn't expect it to work, why would Microsoft allow us to convert an
XPPro to XP MCE without selling us a whole new OS. BTW - it wouldn't be piracy if uSoft set it up to allow the conversion as I hoped. Mike "Doug Frisk" wrote: Quote"MikeM" <MikeM@discussions.microsoft.com>wrote in message |

If you wish to install Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 on a second PC in you home you will need to go out and purchase an additional copy - Note this is an OEM only product so you may be required to purchase it with a piece of hardware. I could go into detail about the relationships between the various keys a you discussed but it is actually irrelevant. If you require MCE on a second machine you have to purchase another copy/license. -- Regards, Mike -- Mike Brannigan [Microsoft] This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights Please note I cannot respond to e-mailed questions, please use these newsgroups "MikeM" <MikeM@discussions.microsoft.com>wrote in message QuoteSince MCE is built on XP, are the keys interchangable?
