Hi all,
I'm working with team foundation server right now. I wanted to know more details on the features available in TFS. My queries are as follows:
- Is replication possible in TFS If yes, which type of replication is supported and how do we configure the TFS for replication What are the step for doing the configuration and how do we go about doing the replication(I mean the process of doing that in TFS)
- What are the feature of TFS which can be used for remote access from outside the LAN How do we configure TFS for remote access I came across some article that it's done through HTTP. Is it possible to use secure HTTP
- What's the purpose keeping shelving option in TFS
- The process template available in TFS are MCF and the Agile process template. Is it possible to create our own process template and use it in TFS If yes, then how do we go about creating the new process template
Anyone having any idea on any of the above queries please reply.
Thanks & Regards,
ThunderRock

I'll answer the last question. Yes you can make up your own process template. We've done it here, in fact we've pretty much butchered the 'out of the box' process template to suit our own requirements.
Just take a copy of the existing process templates, make your changes and import it into tfs.
You should download the sdk for tfs, used to be under extensibility kit I think.

I will try to answer in order:
- Do you want to replicate it to have a TFS backup server or replicate workitems or so , if the first, there is documentation in MSDN about create a backup (not server just backup) of TFS, and restore, and about work items and Source ocntrol, there are several ways, create your own process to migrate it with the OM, migrate work items exporting them to excel and importing them in new project, ...
- There is a nice article about remote access for TFS, althought for the moment, it isn't a supported scenario, here you have the article http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx PostID=264691&SiteID=1
- About shelving, well it can be used in several scenarios, for example, a simple one, you just want to keep a copy of your work on the server for continuing the work in other computer, without checkin it in, in the case it breaks the build or the unit tests.
- Yes, you have lot of info on the Process Templates forum, and also you can download the latest Visual Studio 2005 SDK with more info about it also, I would recommend you also download Process Template Editor from gotdotnet.

I'm very interested in active/active replication partners, or two-way replication between two (or possibly three) TFS systems. SQL Server 2005 would seem to support this, but this page in a vsts faq says it's not supported. Is it a planned feature
