Just installed Team Server Trial -- I think...

After fits and starts I believe I got everything installed on a virtual server. So I have only two questions:

1. Where is it Nothing was added to my Start/Programs. Files are on the hard drive. It looks like everything's there. What do I run to administer TS

2. Can VS Professional Edition use TS as a replacement for SourceSafe and ignore the rest of TS Or is an upgrade to VS required Is TS's source control that much better that SS's

You have to install Team Explorer to administer it, you can do it even in server, or in client machine.

About Sourcesafe, well you can use SourceControl only in TFS, but you will be loosing lot of useful features, like team builds, work items, database, reports, to keep trace of your projects, and help you managing them.

I finally found Team Explorer. It was buried in Visual Studio and has no start menu item of its own! Thanks.

Is source control on TFS (a) better, (b) faster, (c) more secure, (d) not worth the effort when compared with using SourceSafe over the internet

Is there a TFS source control plug-in that my developers who use VS Professional can install Is it free

I would say the answer is a, b, and c, but I'm a bit biased. :-)

All developers accessing TFS will need a CAL (client access license). You can install Team Explorer to get integration in VS 2005 Pro. For earlier versions of VS, you would need to use the free TFS MSSCCI provider to get integrated source control.
