Hi,

I have set the Help Button Property on a form to true. This adds a question button to the form.

If I then run the project and click the qustion mark button the move the mouse the question mark follows the mouse pointer to allow me to click on a control to then display help on the control.

My question is how do I code this so when I click on a control it displays help either in the form of a balloon or dialog.

Can not seem to find any help on this subject.

Ron

To give your controls a "balloon" or "tooltip" add a tooltip component to your form and then each of your controls will have a "tooltip" property...likewise for referencing help documentation drop a "helpprovider" component on your form and each control will have the following properties to link to your help file:

HelpKeyword

HelpNavigator

HelpString

ShowHelp

Still needs the 'help workshop' and then 11 more confusing steps

with this software!

I may just list my telephone number as help in my programs.

I have now downloaded the MS HTML Help Workshop application, after 1hr of messing around with it I was able to produce a reasonable HTML help viewer for my application. Using the help topics in the link, In my post above, I could see how to code in the help viewer etc.

I am using Dream Weaver to produce the HTML pages.

I have also briefly used the HTML Help Workshop Image Editor for capturing/manipulating screens shots etc with no major
issues.

It works for me!!

Update,

Have now spent a few hours working with the MS HTML Help Workshop application and in my opinion I have found it a very easy application to use.

You can very easy create great looking help viewers just like the MS sample

Excellent Tool

Wow. It's been quite a while for me (> 4 years). Maybe time to take a look again...

As far as SandSomething CTP goes, I've been burned once with SQL Server Management Studio CTP. Twice shy. As near as I can tell, CTP is a new strategy from MSFT to get a bunch of unpaid people to debug their stuff. It is not even Beta, it is plain Alpha. Raymond is busy with something else. His blog no doubt...

not quite nobugz

CTP is a customer technology preview - a sneak preview at a new product upcoming to see if customers like it, any feedback and so on and what can be improved in the existing CTP. This is aimed mainly at businesses rather than home users for a good few reasons (not willing to say). However, Its a good thing.

just my 2 cents :-)

Never mind, Help Workshop is probably solid as rock by now, I was talking about my "Oops, there's something else brewing" post.
