I had the same problem but it's actually easy to fix, just go to http://connect.microsoft.com select 'Sign In', after signing in go to 'Manage your connect profile' in the bottom left corner and fill in everything that has a red * next to it. Then click ok (or it's equivilent). Don't bother with then next page (personal info) unless you need to. Click OK and sign out.
Try the benefits portal again and it should work.
