Exchange Servers Setup >> Installing exchange cannot contact schema master

Dear all,

I am having trouble installing exchange 2000 enterprise across networks with
the message "Setup is unable to access windows 200 active directory" and
"Failed to contact schema master for this active directory forest"

I have 2 networks joined by a router. Network 1 contains 2 Win2k Advance
Server domain controllers (90.0.0.0/16) under root tree of "jeff.com" which
doubles as Exchange 2000 server and network 2 contains only 1 W2K AS domain
controller (90.1.0.0/16) under root tree of "guan.com". Both jeff.com and
guan.com are under a single forest. Schema master and domain naming master
are under network 1. I can ping the schema master and domain naming master
from network 2 using its dns name and ip address and also ping the domain
controller in network 2 from network 1 domain controllers. I have setup the
sites correctly and assigned appropriate subnet to the sites.

Anyone have any idea what is happening?

Jeff.com (under site called home=90.0.0.0/16)
- homeexchange1.jeff.com (schema, domain naming, rid, pdc, infrastructure
master)
- homeexchange2.jeff.com (exchange 2000 enterprise)

Guan.com (under site called remote=90.1.0.0/16)
- remoteexchange1.guan.com (rid,pdc, infrastructure master)

Exchange Server29

Guan

Exchange Servers Setup >> Installing exchange cannot contact schema master I just fixed the problem by transfer the schema master to the
remoteexchange1.guan.com domain controller and I am able to proceed to
install the Exchange 2000.

Is it a requirement for Exchange 2000 to have the schema master available
locally, rather than across site??
